I know this is old, but I love how everyone freaked out when they thought James destroyed them when they turned out to be fake replicas that got destroyed.
That guy who sold it to you sounded very nice about the whole thing.
Hor
Indeed. Not all gamers and nerds who have rare items are assholes about it. 🙂
It's an amazing acquisition to get just the gray cart. The fact that you have both is just the most incredible collecting feat ever. I'm glad that they are in the hands of a REAL collector and not some greedy reseller. Congrats Pat, you deserve them!
Got sold on pawn stars
“Real Collector” Jesus fuck, this guy is such a fraud.
@@AnalSeepageForDummies how so? I mean he has a huge game collection, and who knows what else he collects. Do you know how long, and how much money it takes to get a complete NES collection???? I'm sure he works for his money too, so it's a huge amount of work to do all of that. I'm a collector myself, I know what goes into it. A fraud collector? What makes you an expert on who's a fraud collector or not? Or are you just a jealous asshole who can't deal with the fact that somebody has better shit than you do? Grow up.
NES WARRIOR He’s a complete e begging artist who manipulates his fans. He’s no different then a homeless person outside an Arby’s begging for change except it’s done electronically instead. He also knows fuck all about games and is very uninformed on almost all topics.
@@AnalSeepageForDummies I've neber once seen him begging for games. People send him games on their own free will dick for brains. He also has spent many years on the hunt, collecting, spending a lot of money, and it's a lot of hard work. You know nothing about collecting so shut your pie hole son.
I can picture Pat during that week of doubt on whether or not to buy the gold cart, twisting and turning in his bed, naked, clutching his grey NWC cartridge and crying loudly with the neighbors banging on the walls.
GroovinFunk Skyscrapers: full of poor people.
GroovinFunk I mean, some people own really expensive high rise apartments in places like New York City
plastic14407 Or 3 million dollar apartments in Piazza di Spagna, Rome. he should take a gander on luxuryestate.com for a quick reality check.
That's the gayest thing I have ever read.
I don't think Pat would expose the NWC cart to bodily fluids, and all the friction from the body rubbing, as it would ruin the label.
stop making up stories we all know you beat up AVGN for that smash cart and then super glue and tape that cart together.
.-.
So dense, so dense.
u mad
true
NihilistSolitude Watch the commentary on the NWC episode of AVGN. James and Pat explain as much as possible about the cartridges.
When pat gets rid of his collection, he should use the money to build an Indiana Jones temple, complete with a rolling boulder, password floors, and booby traps, with the NWC cart in the center of the temple.
The grey card would be the half way part. You can take that and walk away, or keep going for the gold
Glad my question got answered Pat and Ian. I was the guy who asked this (MightyDucks8) and I didn't expect it to be answered, and yet it was their first answer on the Q&A. Real great story.
When I saw your hand move into Ian's camera range, it honestly blew my mind because i thought that the two of you filmed in separate areas.
+John Cooke I thought this for the longest time too.
+John Cooke You never noticed the table and chairs are the same?
That's awesome. Thanks for sharing the story! I bet your were nervous as hell on the plane there and even more nervous about carrying it around on the plane home! Bet you couldn't wait to try it out and play it as soon as you got in!
I was thinking the same thing, RetroDave Nintendo. Wonder if he at least had a plastic case to carry it in. I always cram too much into my carry on and the potential to crush a game would be high!
Right place right time, good story, nice that you met the guy - I guess that's a must when handing over so much cash!
Always wondered about this. Thanks Pat
Pat do you know the 2-3 other people who have both of the carts? Have you ever gotten in touch with them? I'm just curious to know if you know them
He's gotten in touch with one of them and that would be AVGN
Steve Lin is one such individual, who I personally know... very knowledgeable collector and a great guy. I believe there may be one other person out there with both.
MCGustavo James doesn't own either the grey or the gold. The cart featured in his video is actually Pat's.
Pat the NES Punk
Jason Wilson, the uber-collector out of Tennessee, I believe also owns both.
I thought james had at least 1 of the game carts. ya know james the nerd? the angry video game nerd does that ring a bell??? just put the words "avgn youtube" on yahoo or google
thats just crazy how stuff like this happened, all because the guy googled his name so you have to wonder how many more are out there just sitting in a attic somewhere.
i recently got a sega genesis in a box along with nes and snes game carts from a friend kinda the same way, they were just sitting in the back of a garage for the past 10 or so years and completely forgot about them, he dug them out and gave them to me as he knows i am interested in old games
What Pat was actually buying here was not a piece of plastic junk but some popularity.
Or something he really wanted
That's a really awesome story!
thats pretty awesome,I did similar trandaction for my NWC Grey. Congratz Pat, cant wait to find an opportunity to add a NWC Gold.
Thanks for sharing your story Pat :) I've always wondered how you got your hands on that gold cart and now I know ;)
Very interesting. I like the Duke Togo in the background, too.
And when the Nerd broke your copies, you couldn't sleep for months
more podcast. so i can watch while i eat. didnt even get half way done today. now im wasting time typing! its getting cold. thanks guys
Really cool and interesting story, in very nice condition too.
>throwing games out.
People actually do this?
Wheels8504
I never did chuck games but back then you still could try to sell them to a pawn shop or at a garage sale and get next to nothing for them. For a lot of people they were like VHS tapes come house moving time, they just end up in the bin as they didnt have a cash value and took up space and time to move.
a former friend of mine threw out a freaking boxed virtual boy. I don't blame him given it was a piece of shit, but he knew at the time I was into retro gaming, idk why he didn't even consider giving it to me
Parents did it all the time when they didn't know what they had. Games, comic books, baseball cards.
SavatoEX Moms do this. They've been doing this for generations. They see old "toys" taking up space and the toss it one way or another. 60's moms see an original G.I. Joe worth _________... "Give it to Goodwill".
GroovinFunk Uncle's mom (grandmother) threw away 3 longboxes of my uncle's 70's comics. Rage inducing. Luckily he still has 12 more longboxes, but those 3 will never be replaced.
Wasn't Pat on Pawn Stars trying to sell them or did I just make that up?
Why do people hate on Ian? He's a great part of this podcast and seems knowledgeable. Let the man live
Insane story!
great story !
Seriously hardcore!!!
Did you ever read the story about the reproduction American Aero Fighters 3 on the AES? There are some really amazing threads on various forums that included several airport trips such as the one you made :D
I always just find it fascinating how the things that are worthless today can be worth a years salary 30 years later
Found you for the very first time from AVGN. Nintendo World Championships. And I have been watching AVGN for more than 8 years. Crazy how I never noticed you. I thought you were "Some Guy" (Telltale Walking Dead reference)
Great show guys TLT ...
I wish I had a life where I don't have a lot of spending money and can still afford to buy something for $10k+
Imagine what this dude can buy when he does have a lot of spending money
Bridgeman I think Pat is pretty well off!!!!
I would never say never, but I do not think that I would do that, but I think its cool you did. Collecting is healthy, I mean I started out telling myself I was only going to replay my childhood games and the main titles, now I am collecting everything hahaha
This is the only game i wouldn't mind a reproduction copy of. Not a grey repro or a gold repro. but something that's clearly a reproduction.
I know that. The place that made them stopped for some reason.
+viscountalpha Retro USB is making more now I think.
+viscountalpha I believe there was a Blue reproduction cart made way back when.
xsonicsparkx It's still in production.
Hi Pat, Big fan! I just saw a clip from pawn stars and I didn't know you came out on that show, you said you played it with a friend. were you referring to James? Are those the nwc carts you used in the nwc pat/avgn episode?
That's Golgo 13 on the background? awesome !
Well nobody can really question Patrizio’s NES collecting credentials. He took the chance of getting a gold NWC cart when the opportunity presented and even though for the time he paid a hefty amount in line with what the going rate was. But now it would be worth probably ten times as much if not more.
Cool story but the question I believe we all have now is, what did you order for lunch that day. Was it some place nice or just a subway or Taco Bell?
HEY! Don't be dissin subway and comparing it to taco bell! sure it's cheap but it's good cheap, I've never been a fancy food guy anyway, too expensive and the food is overrated.
I need to locate mine. I was one of the original 26. Antonio DeMasi CT
You are 100% not one of them.
I have a cart. $18,000 it’s yours.
@@conman7127 i got u lol
hey do you still have these?
or did you sell them to pawn stars?
how did you do the props that were destroyed in the avgn video? taking a zelda cartridge and putting another selfprinted sticker on it?
AwesomeCrabman shouldn't destroy zelda :(
I never realized that was you who brought these games to pawn stars
We just had the topic on our Discord Server again, and I really would love to know how much he paid the guy for the gold cartridge. On some sites, it's listed for 18k. The grey one I think for 24k. That's really an insane amount of money for 2 cartridges, and I don't think Pat could just throw 42k on the table for 2 games.
But kudos for having both, his collection is really a rarity. I hope he has a good alarm system installed and a good insurance, because his stuff is worth so much money. Stay save punk :)
If you watch the Pawnstars episode he’s on (it’s on RUclips), it shows that he paid $12,500 for the gold cartridge. Definitely a great investment at this point.
Sometimes high value items need to be insured because of special characteristics that contribute to their value. Art, coins, and jewelry come to mind. Should you insure a game like this?
I'm sure he keeps it in an insured bank deposit box at the least.
Obviously Pat bought it with money. What I wanna know is where pat gets his freaking money. The dude owns probably hundreds of thousands worth of Nintendo memorabilia! Wtf
He is secretly the real life version of Hank Scorpio.
ya ive been wondering where he gets all his money to constantly go to swap meets - be able to do podcasts etc etc and go to conventions and not once have i heard of his way of income after watchign these videos
My Name Is Ryan i saw him shelling out hundred dollar bills for nes manuals at a con
This sounds like the story from the 80s movie "Cloak and Dagger." :p
Great movie btw
Flying to another place for a NES game? Yes you are insane.
wont be saying that in some years its big ££££
People fly specifically to try a new restaurant. At least you can take the NES game home with you.
Good story!
Ian looks so intense!
does he still have the carts? i know he tried selling them on Pawn Stars but i dont know if he ended up selling them somewhere else
The NWC will be in a museum one day you know you can tell them the museum that they are a borrow items and they will give you a portion of the tickets sold to that museum. That's how some people do it when they found an old piece of treasure that might not be worthless in the eyes of people but more of the history of that item.
Didnt pat tried to sell the carts at the pawnstars shop in vegas?
Cool Pat. I really wanted to know how you got it!
I ''mustache'' you a question but this video answer my question because of my mustache.
I wonder what Pat does or did to make that much money where he can afford his own house and have extra money for all this stuff he gets.
RUclips ad revenue
He’s the nes punk
Smart money managing. I know someone that is 25 years old, delivers pizzas for a living, has his own house and car paid off, and well over 10,000$ saved. Some people just really know how to spend and manage their money.
Mom and daddy
Well not having a wife and kids helps
How often have you played them?
That is crazy. And what next? Aside from playing the Nerd for it? Are they ever played? Are they stored in glass?
Trust me Pat you made the right choice. Imagine how much both of those carts together are worth now and in the future.
Hey Pat, its kinda late to ask this, considering it was in 2009. But why did you try selling your Grey and Gold carts to the Pawn Stars?
That explains it.
The question I've always been curious about was (and I can safely assume that he didn't REALLY do it, but) what "stand-in cart" did y'all use when the AVGN (supposedly) destroyed your NWC gold cart? I'll admit, that was a pretty convincing shot...
They said it was just a copy of Legend of Zelda :) Those too have gold cartidges
(I missed the official statement, BTW) Oh... I guess if it looks real on camera, right?
There is a making of video of that episode, check it out
also, the gray cart was Top Gun.
watch?v=sI_ub7VVP00
Good story
Did you and James Rolfe use yours for his NWC AVGN episode? Or did he manage to get one himself?
ThePhantomGamer Those were both Pat's.
Does anyone know why I can't play this video? oO It's the only one with that problem, I can watch every other video.. (With Firefox. I just tried with Chrome and it works there...)
Wow. Pat. What a cool story. Truly, I am happy for you. You love the system enough, you deserve the cart. I am genuinely happy about this. :)
Lucky bastard
I’m new to this channel and love the videos and podcasts. One question, does Pat have a real job? Or does he make enough of RUclips now?
I saw you on pawn stars :D
great story, so how did you get the gray cart?
He and Ian have mentioned bits and pieces of the story. Basically a dude came into Luna Games and sold Ian a bunch of NES games, and Ian didn't notice the NWC gray until the guy had left. Pat later bought it from Luna. Ian says he still feels shitty about buying that game for just a few bucks.
I saw him on pawn stars
Just a thought Pat, I wouldn't mind if you "plugged", at the end of each podcast, the "Video game years" series and other content you do. A small video at the end of each podcast.
I say that because I only saw it after you mentioned during a podcast, but you didn't even mentioned what it was, just "watch it", and I had no idea, or even a link to it.
Its called a channel, dumbass. Search the upload history. These videos feel more personal without" plugs" at the end.
trkoby hey, why all the anger. It was just a suggestion, a lot of people do it and I never minded the little boxes at the end (only after the video is over, of course).
how about the pawn stars episode?
Homie on the left is geekin
he's mad hardcore
How much do these NWC carts go for normally?
Right now, they both go for north of $10,000. Usually the golds go for more than the grays, but a guy on NintendoAge sold a gray for $17,500 a few months ago. The ebay auctions tend to get trolled a lot, so it's hard to peg a real value on them.
and those carts now sit in a security deposit box at a bank, you can't even display it because it is so valuable and your house would be instantly robbed. As Indiana Jones would say "It belongs in a museum!"
It's being investigated by "top men"
Does someone know what Pat does for a living?
where can i sale?
I know at least one guy from germany who also owns both carts ;)
Came from the Pawn Stars video
Well, you got physical capital now. You can always sell it when you feel the time is right.
How much did you get at pawn stars?
Another fucking podcast! Dammit!
How do you forget owning a game like that?
I wonder if they did anything cool like that for the 2015 Championship? They probably gave the contestants something dumb like a lanyard or a Pikachu toy.
Hey pat, since you are the NES punk, is it true that there are 8 gold Rockman/Megaman 4 cartdridges which were given to the winners of the "Robot Master Design Contest?
Yes, that one is true. An even more impossible thing to find would be the swordquest prizes from Atari.
Now imagine if the TSA got ahold of it to "Inspect" it
10k is a steal!!! 😃
I Need To Get A Gold had Cart
This guy tried to pawn his games on the show pawnstars hahaha. That place low balled him trying to get both copies of his game for 15k. So damn hilarious.
john doe Pawn Stars is entertainment only...it wasn't an actual deal dumb Fuck.
you don't know anything about television apparently.
Yup, I'm jelly.
Pat when's the next flea market madness or review?!
Perhaps you could send me that cart to take a look at and verify? You just never know these days and I really am a helluva guy. The fact that I just said that proves it.
@@doctorx0079 Ah hell, happens to everyone! I forgot I even left this comment! 6 years ago my life was sooo different holy shit. Glad you responded, its nice to be reminded of some comment I made in another life lol.
Hey i seen you on Pawn Stars lol
These should be in the hands of preservationists/gaming-museum...
I still want to know how you paid for both!
The dents on the gold cartridge though :(
if anything it's an investment into your trademark as the NES Punk and I think a wise purchase whatever you paid. I don't know if you make a living or income of the character but I wonder if the purchase could conceivably written off to some extent.
I want a gold NWC. But i don't have the money lol
Dude literally fucking flew in an airplane to pick up a video game.
One of the rarest games of all time, yes.
@@57yearoldjamesbond He could have used Ebay
A game that only 23 copies exist of, you think he could've just used eBay?
It's like it was meant to be
Did pat get the gray cart at the nwc
No, he got the gray at Ian's store. Ian found it in a bag of NES games some dude came in with and said, "Here r games give me monies" and left with a few dollars. Ian didn't even see it until he went through it later. Pat made an offer on it and got it.
rosstedfordkendall likely story for this Ian. He blatently ripped him off. Anyone would
You Wish or he spent a lotta cash
