  • This tune was supposed to be on the Deep Purple Machine Head Album but it got cut. Years later, Ian Gillian did a version of this song that had a more Rockish guitar solo. This recording is me doing a mash up of the two versions. A backing track of the original recording was used and edited to extend the song allowing for the second guitar solo.
    Hope you like it.

Ah thanks Chip. I got pretty close. But Mr. Blackmore has many subtleties and nuances that are really hard to get exact. That probably explains why he's the rock star and I'm not. Lol

You really nailed the tone of the guitar. May I ask what was the signal chain?

Hi thank you. My strat is plugged into a Motu audio interface which is USB into the laptop. Using cakewalk DAW and positive grid bias fx 2 for amp modeling.

@@OldDogNewTricks57I also have a Positive grid Sparc GO. Possibly the whole chain can be reproduced with it. Would you be so kind and give me the settings for each FX in the chain ?

@@jozseflazar917 OK. Back to this. I used 2 pickup selectors on the Strat. One is the neck pickup with tone rolled way back to kill the highs. This was used on the first half of the song and the last part of the song mellow lead stuff. Going between the clean rhythm and the clean lead I adjusted the guitar volume from about 7 for the rhythm to 10 for the lead.
The second setting was the pickup selector between the middle and bridge pickup. This was used for the second part of the song rhythm and lead stuff with a more rockish tone. You can probably hear where it changes, and watching the video again I see the pickup selector is switch at about 2:19 in the video and then back again at 4:58. For this part of the song, the dirty rhythm and hot lead, the guitar volume stayed at about 7. Switching to the hot lead amp gave me the volume boost I needed so I didn't mess with the guitar volume.
There are 4 amp selections. 1 for the Ritchie lead stuff (mellow lead). The second amp for the Ritchie rhythm stuff which is the first part of the song (very clean setting). The third amp (hot lead) for the rockish solo in the Ian Gillian version of the song (second guitar solo). The 4th amp for the rockish rhythm parts (dirty rhythm) in the Ian Gillian version of the song.
Amp 1: I called this the mellow lead amp. In biasFX2 this is the I Got Blues amp.
