"As I'm staring out the fifth floor window, it seems like the less communication the better" The fifth floor used to be the mental ward at the old Athens Regional Hospital. This was also the hospital at which Vic died.
Yes Linda I never met Vic but felt like I knew him from his songs. Athens Regional is now called Piedmont, but the sad memories, like any hospital remain. Thankfully, the fifth floor mental floor is gone. Mental health treatment still has a long way to go.
This was always one of my favourite songs on About To Choke (which, though good, was never my favourite of Vic's albums). But listening again after Vic's death, and in the midst of some sad family events, this really is the most powerful of songs.
..beautiful song... eventhough these are too complex lyrics for a french man, for me at least.. how about dying next chritsmus.?.. "i'll see you around", hopefully when it comes my time... what an Artist : thank you Vic... thk you so much, from 94 'til tonight : you are "immortel".
I'm sorry for my lack of communication But as I'm staring out this fifth floor window It seems like the least amount of communication the better Oh, well what am I supposed to say "there's a bloody effigy on my wall And the complimentary carnation is falling apart" And I ain't got time for the niceties Or rather I was never, never fond of the niceties I will see you around I will see you around See you around See you around Well I must admit I'm flattered by your consecration It's a mind-numbing spine-chilling But never-the-less heartwarming gesture But as you make your advances so clumsily I'll save us both the both the hassle and leave And hang out all night In the familiar fluorescent light of Dunkin' Donuts 'cause I ain't got time for the niceties Or rather I was never, never fond of the niceties I will see you around See you around See you around See you around Well, how are you with issues Lately you've been a half-assed activist You've been seen sashaying around the picket line Wearing scarcely any sign Oh, but always vocal in love and strife And the politics of your all important life Well, I'm sorry but your routine is coming off a bit ragged And I ain't got time for the niceties Or rather I was never, never fond of the niceties I will see you around I'll see you around See you around ... I'll see you around ...
Vic's songs have a way of doing that, he was a absolute genius and easily both one of the saddest and most beautiful people to ever draw breath. He's been gone eleven years this Christmas and it still sucks just as hard, miss him...
@@douglaspatrick868 I was a kid when he died, now I'm an adult wishing I could have seen him perform at least once. Truly in a league of his own, I genuinely can't think of anyone who made music this raw
Saw Vic in Vancouver, BC, at a dive bar in the Downtown Eastside in 1999. He thanked me for coming, me driving 25 miles vs. Vic’s 3,000. The sweetest and most genuine guy you’d ever meet.
A unique song and performance, such bitter-sweet-bitterness, I really can't think of anything else like this. And bless him, he maybe not fond of the niceties, but see you around is far from the most ambivalent way to bid goodbye. How sad that we won't see him around.
I love everyone who loves vic
I love everyone who loves Vic, too
I love both of you
I love all of you!@@jbon123
I love all of you
I appreciate the love and throw it right back a'cha!
Tearing my fucking heart out, Vic.

jim hoover yeah, I know my husband died at Athens Regional Hospital in 2015 ! We knew Vic! Athens Regional has a bad vibe

jim hoover yep I know the name change ! Dunkin Donuts
I live in indiana ours is on the 4th floor we call it 4a
I can't believe that so much of Vic's early work is so ignored. It is absolutely amazing that Little and the Actor is not on here. shameful.
Great song to end one of the best albums of that decade.
See you around sometimes Vic...
saw him in Athens in '92 but reget I was too drunk to completely remember...he was a chunk of pure gold
It happens to the best of us.
This is the best song ever written.
Yes it is.
@@chrisestep9100 it really isn't.
it is totally OK for anyone to think so or not. I miss Vic.

it is innit.😢
I used to see Vic at the local bowling alley ! I worked the front counter on Sat. and Sunday. Miss you Vic
Never get tired of this song
This song makes me cry like a baby. Miss you, Vic.

Amazing musician... so sad that he left us =(

See you around
See you around
Well I must admit I'm flattered by your consecration
It's a mind-numbing spine-chilling
But never-the-less heartwarming gesture
But as you make your advances so clumsily
I'll save us both the both the hassle and leave
And hang out all night
In the familiar fluorescent light of Dunkin' Donuts
'cause I ain't got time for the niceties
Or rather I was never, never fond of the niceties
I will see you around
See you around
See you around
See you around
Well, how are you with issues
Lately you've been a half-assed activist
You've been seen sashaying around the picket line
Wearing scarcely any sign
Oh, but always vocal in love and strife
And the politics of your all important life
Well, I'm sorry but your routine is coming off a bit ragged

this song floors me.
Dale Phillips the fifth floor , of Athens Regional Hospital! Destroyed many lives
