As someone with extreme social anxiety who actually does live in relative solitude, this was weirdly powerful for me. You want to be normal but you just can’t, and it drives you to insane lengths, but it’s never enough. There’s just no comfortable way to live because the fear of people always creeps in - and you know it’s irrational logically, but that doesn’t stop it from completely ruling your life. There’s no compassion, hope, real help, or resources for us. A lot of people don’t understand how terrifying our lives can be and think this game is absurd, but personally I find this game one of the more realistic interpretations of what the reality of social anxiety actually is.
Manly is a SPC. When a game comes out and it is just a wholesome straightforward game with no twist, he plays it and somehow some all the twists begin to happen.
This game is honestly an extremely depressing slap in the face to me.... It's a reality for a lot of us with Agoraphobia. Even the ending. It becomes a whole different disorder called MDD or Maladaptive Daydreaming Disorder. You want to have a different life so badly you obsess over daydreams, so lasting weeks or months. You daydream for literal hours and eventually real life becomes unsatisfying and like a waist. It's easier to imagine you're someone or something else than it is to actually become someone you're proud of. I know it sounds pathetic, but I actually draw out my characters and have a house planner app to plan out frequent settings. I have to write things down like timelines, family trees, etc to keep track because of how intricate they get. That's how extreme it is. I genuinely don't have friends because of how emotionally draining it is. I have physically had panic attacks and cry fits because of something my characters are going through. It's something that constantly effects my life and it's hard for me to go outside, talk to anyone (even family I live with), or even take care of myself some days. My family seriously gets proud of me for making dinner and going shopping, and even then I can't do it alone. I need my dad with me at all times. Many people just think that people don't wanna leave their house or are lazy, but I've both witnessed and been in situations where a person is so afraid to speak to people they are willing to not go to emergency rooms when they're in critical need of emergency or even life saving treatment. Many can't manage to get or keep therapists to even help their situation. Things like talking on the phone, answering the door, having friends over, going to work or school, walking your dog, and even getting the mail are scary and many of us are unable to complete school or get a job. It's debilitating... Sorry for the rant. It's not something I normally talk about to others outside of support groups or support subreddits, but awareness and understanding is desperately needed. I'm not some weirdo who's afraid of the government tracking them or apart of some alien cult or some other crazy thing like that. I'm a relatively normal person that just has some set backs. I talk and act like everyone else, I still have manners, clean my house, and can be pretty loud around my close family. We're not pale freaks or Neckbeards. Just people. Anxious, but still just people.
I don't care this was 4 months ago, thank you for sharing your experience. Like you said, awareness is important to talk about, even when there are people that will never understand or try to.
@@moimoiyoop I think you are not being empathetic about their situation. Bro, saying that just makes people feel guilty. "I don't have a real disorder, I am just lazy and a parasite." I used to think like that when I didn't have my diagnostic and its extremely common to people who have undiagnosed disorders to think about themselves as lazy leaches Not all social anxieties work the same, they have different consequences and symptoms. Please, stop using your disorders as a way to judge other people
@@moimoiyoop I know that, but I think is unfair to call someone lazy or a parasite when social isolation is an symptom of their disorder, because it's not something that can be controlled by them easily. I'm sorry of being so angry with you, when I read you reply after reading op's comment it sounded insensitive to me and reading you calling people lazy made me feel really bad, because I have ADHD and I used to call my self a lazy leech all the time because I didn't know I have ADHD I'm sorry if I seemed too angry in my reply
@@moimoiyoop I think it can be worse, like the person can become a leach because they don't understand they need help, their families think their are "okay" or they don't money for therapy and etc. But when someone know they need help, can get help and have all the support to do it and doesn't do it because they don't want too, that's when they cross the line. I think is this type of people that you are talking about, isn't it?
@@moimoiyoop I think your reply made me feel bad, because it remembered me of the guilty I felt because I wasn't "functional" like my friends, and it was a horrible feeling of self degradation that I don't think anyone should feel at all.

@@banana_pancake7171 Eldritch beings are, by definition, beyond our understanding, they're not just "complex", we physically and psychologically cannot grasp their true form and/or motive, that's the whole point of those things and the reason why they're described vaguely in litterature and why movies often fail to represent them. If the being can be understood by common mortal then it is not eldritch, it is just really weird.
A cute, yet sad game that puts a hikikomori into perspective. We could argue that Yamasen is just running away from her problems (her problem is apparently interacting with people) but we as the player never ask why and it seems that her parents are same way. A lot of hikikomori have some sort of mental illness or trauma from their past (ie abusive parents, bullying, layoff from work, etc.) to the point where a third party has to step in and help. There are organizations in Japan designed for just that but its possible for the hikikomori's parents to step in and help work out their child's trauma. However for Yamasen and what seems like a lot of hikikomori, she's dealing with this trauma alone and can't get out of it while the player (maybe Yamasen's own conscious) is her only comfort.
This kinda feels like a Junji Ito manga. If she turned into a actual hermit crab by the end of the game(IwaskindahopingforitbuttherealendingisprettyneatandJunjiIto-ishtoo-) it could definitely be a Junji Ito manga but in game form.
oh no when i saw this vid had "Straightforward Game With No Twists" i got curious what would be the plot twist of the game but alas i got caught offguard by the biggest plot twist of all *there was no plot twist*
Ending up in that very same void is fine. What's not fine is not knowing how to get out from it... I dropped out of college and was a NEET for like 8 months... and now? yeah I work my ass off starting from Mcdonalds(thanks, The Demon Lord is a part-timer), and am now a call center agent. Thank you for calling, how may I assist you today? just press mute if you want to scream at the caller's absurdity... but all in all was fine. Pay was decent unlike Mcdo's
I don't know why I read the title as "Hentai Home Designer". I guess also seeing the thumbnail with all the pink and peach colors and the anime girl on the front switched on some primal setting in my brain.
As someone with anxiety, this is deep and kinda emotional...it’s a painful similar experience that many of us go through when we feel like we’re a burden to others or we feel overwhelmed and stressed and become deeply depressed and imagine things just to make us happy 😢
_Tissues, anime, and dakis_ All you need for any environment and the flamingo was just enough avant garde to make it unique. Tissues were forgotten in the cave world, but there were katanas instead. Not as useful perhaps, but probably as necessary to a true otaku as tissues. Well, almost. The game was sad... the saddest part was the lack of need for windows and the final turning away from everyone and everything except what is in your mind. At least the tissues returned.
I sometimes wonder if hikikomori (which means someone who has severe social withdrawal) just need a bit of a push in the right direction and get the help they need, it's ultimately up to them to decide their choices in life, but more people should be aware that most hikikomori have mental health problems which often lead to living in recluse... 😢
Sweet girl: “I want my room to be a one stop hermit paradise, with lots of entertainment and plushies and instant ramen!” Manly, nervously: “Huh, just like...my room...”
Oh, phew, I thought the image of her with her neck bent with her hand behind her head was going to be foreshadowing of a different moment with her neck bent.
I dunno why, but I imagined the 'void' at the end being pretty much that she froze to death, and is just so cut off from society, that even in the afterlife she's alone. Pretty dark, but that's just my take on it.
this... uhh... This kinda hits. ignoring all the cutesy, what basically happened is this: We have a girl with extreme social anxiety who wants to live by herself and have nothing to do with the world. Her parents disagree and stop giving her money so she finally has to start living. Yet this girl tries absolutely everything possible in order to avoid that. I believe the girl either died right before the cave designing part, or if we take everything literally, she killed herself on the iceberg. it's quite sad when you think about it, but wrong at the same time. You can't expect to do nothing and still live your life comfortably, but at the same time it's not right that a person has to go through this just because they hate human contact. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

"I don't have a real disorder, I am just lazy and a parasite." I used to think like that when I didn't have my diagnostic and its extremely common to people who have undiagnosed disorders to think about themselves as lazy leaches
Not all social anxieties work the same, they have different consequences and symptoms.
Please, stop using your disorders as a way to judge other people
@@moimoiyoop I know that, but I think is unfair to call someone lazy or a parasite when social isolation is an symptom of their disorder, because it's not something that can be controlled by them easily.
But I agree that sometimes you can be harsh to get someone to get the help they need.
I'm sorry of being so angry with you, when I read you reply after reading op's comment it sounded insensitive to me and reading you calling people lazy made me feel really bad, because I have ADHD and I used to call my self a lazy leech all the time because I didn't know I have ADHD
I'm sorry if I seemed too angry in my reply
When i saw the space room, i lowkey wished the girl would have turned into something inhuman and the furniture would be kinda gross looking, like she turned into an eldritch thing without noticing...

Body horror decoration game, strange concept.
@@banana_pancake7171 Because they are beings beyond human understanding and may drive you insane simply by looking at them, don't mean they can't have a cozy personal space, no matter what they define as "cozy", you know, tastes and colors...
@@shinigamiyuu not beyond humans understanding. They're concepts created by humans. They're just complex.
@@shinigamiyuu while that is true. I merely mentioned the concept of body horror decoration game. Nothing related to Eldritch creatures.

My sweet child
One of these days, you'll leave this room
And go out into the world
and fix the society that rejected you
I think hikikomori reject society out of a fear of failure.

OYASUMI-
Surprisingly.. I don't believe this counts as a game with a twist. I feel like this was rather self explanatory. What did you expect from a Hermit?
The twist for me is that she didn't learn or grow from the experience. I was genuinely expecting her to change her ways by the end.
@@TaoScribble I see.
You're right, this is a straightforward game with no twists at all. That's why it's so goddamn scary.
Well that went from 0 to 100.
I KNEW IT!!!!!!!!
What? But Manly said it was a straightforward game with no twists!
Yep

I'm about a minute in and I believe halfway through were gonna design a ritual chamber
I guess not
What's next? Oh no! Someone's passing by on the boat. Quickly let's go underwater where we can be mermaids like we always wanted💙💙💙
''They discovered the Void''
Ah, yes, the Ultimate Magic.
The twist is that she is always talking to herself, she would be too anxious to have a social interaction with a decorator.
I feel personally called out by the start of this game.

What a completely cute game with no absolute twists at all!
oh wow. i was actually wrong. but it hit hard-
A game with no twist? A very unlikely story
This kinda feels like a Junji Ito manga. If she turned into a actual hermit crab by the end of the game(IwaskindahopingforitbuttherealendingisprettyneatandJunjiIto-ishtoo-) it could definitely be a Junji Ito manga but in game form.
"This game has no twists."
I mean, I know the deal by now, but let me make sure.

Happy holidays manly, i hope you and everyone here had a great Christmas, or other holiday you celebrate.

_Tissues, anime, and dakis_
All you need for any environment and the flamingo was just enough avant garde to make it unique.
Plot Twist, she was talking to herself the whole time.
I laughed reading the title... sure.. a straightforward game with no twists!

Hello Manly. I hope you had a good Holiday.
This girls social anxiety makes me feel mentally healthy.
The snow decoration bit reminded me of Undertale with the "This is a snow poff" bit
I sometimes wonder if hikikomori (which means someone who has severe social withdrawal) just need a bit of a push in the right direction and get the help they need, it's ultimately up to them to decide their choices in life, but more people should be aware that most hikikomori have mental health problems which often lead to living in recluse...
😢
Whenever Manly commented about how she gets anywhere or anything, I felt it

I think they really missed an opportunity to have the Daruma filled in (blink-and-you'll miss it at 26:29, one side only is filled) XD
This definitely was an interesting game.
I dunno why, but I imagined the 'void' at the end being pretty much that she froze to death, and is just so cut off from society, that even in the afterlife she's alone. Pretty dark, but that's just my take on it.
Ah a new manlybadasshero video I hope nothing out of the ordinary happens in the video about a hikkiomori.
I'm just gonna end up binging Manly's entire channel. I think he's my new comfort youtuber lmao
this... uhh...
This kinda hits.
ignoring all the cutesy, what basically happened is this:
We have a girl with extreme social anxiety who wants to live by herself and have nothing to do with the world.
Most don't really hate human contact, They are just afraid people won't like them. "You can't lose if you don't try" is the motto of most hikikomori.
This was actually very relaxing to see, and even though, you made and insteresting gameplay. Thank you so much, i had a really bad headache but this made me feel better.
The sus meter continues to rise with manly
why do i have a feeling that she died in the end? Think about it, she's outside in the cold and she probably freezed to death.
