I imagine this must have felt great for Campbell. His song as the lead single from their first album in 4 years, getting to play it in front of millions of American TV viewers, and his vocals and guitar being such a strong part of the mix. The song is terrific - it really turned my head the first time I heard it on the radio. It should have been bigger, but American tastes never recovered from the grunge wave.
That is such an amazing song if I had to pick top three songs by this band that would definitely be on the podium for sure what an amazing arrangement just the whole thing is so unique even for Def Leppard it is so set apart wow just wow
Lot of good songs on this album. The guys are different some but..Def Leppard music, Joes voice, Savs bass can’t be mistaken! Def Leppard #1 Def Leppard the Best of Rock 🤘♾❤️💯. 5-7-2023
First time I heard this song on the radio, I did not even recognise it as a Def Leppard song (life long fan too). I thought it was a "Collective Soul" song, lol. Great song though!
Loved the song first time I ever heard it, just gets better. Great live version. Love Leppard when they're pure overkill but also love the 'lowkey' era when it felt much more stripped back and raw.
Mmm 1996 a very good year I had my firstborn son..it seems like yesterday time just goes sooo fast.Def Leppard is still ROCKING OUR FACES OFF!! What a wild n weird ride✨🌹🎢
Yeah they were desperately trying to shed the '80s reputation. He wasn't especially commercially successful but it did keep them going and they did survive until '80s nostalgia hit again.
I missed this episode! Did he not interview them? That is just so wrong, they are all wonderful men who deserve to be interviewed as much as the other guests!!! Their story and all this band has been through is so awesome and sad but they have pushed on and they write most if not all their songs, they put their hearts and souls into their music! They still recognize and remember a band mate who was with them and who also wrote some of their songs from the start until he was taken from this earth too soon Mr. Steve Clark!! They have always been a huge part of how their albums are made from start until it is released!! Love this song!! Joe Elliott you looked so awesome and I love your dance moves, shake it and hearing your voice sends chills through my spine, the lyrics just touches me, I wish you were singing to me!! I would love to meet you and the band!! Been a fan since the 1980s, especially a fan of the one and only Joseph Thomas Elliott!!!❤❤❤❤❤
I think they had been on many American tv shows before, just not, "talk shows" or whatever they're called in the states. I've seen them on shows like American bandstand, MTV and America's version of TOTP.
Love Def Leppard ❤ number 1
Slang. The underrated masterpiece

I loved Steve Clark but Vivian did take the band to a different level. I loved every song on this album.
Very very underrated album.
Love Def Leppard ❤

Wish they would do this song live all the time. Sound soooo good live!!
They played this song on the last night if their Vegas residency in 2019. That concert was soooo freaking awesome.
This whole album should get more live play, I agree!
Joe's natural voice is great.
I like Vivian's backing vocals!
Awesome ❤
Really like the Slang album 😎
Great World 🌎 Tour 2023
They still sound fantastic!!
Absolutely Amazing 😍😍😍
Rare footage of Phil playing with a shirt on!
Irritates me every time, too.
@@Sockenkatze it irritates you? but he's hot! 😂
What year was this?
And Rick Allen wearing sneakers.
1996

Man 💖 Def Leppard Sing cool 😎
The blend of voices is incredible
I bought the slang CD album .
ITS AMAZING.❤✌️🤘🤘🤘
Man, even the band's wardrobe reflected the change in direction they went for with Slang.
Yeah they were desperately trying to shed the '80s reputation. He wasn't especially commercially successful but it did keep them going and they did survive until '80s nostalgia hit again.
Even though it was very different from everything else they ever did I actually like the album SLANG.
As well you should. It's awesome because it proved they could do it all.
Finally, a "live" recording of this song since they don't play it in concert!
Yep and at the time Joe actually sang live, nowadays he's heavily "assisted"...
I love them ❤❤
One of the best DL
I love that song
I love work it out

My favorite song on Slang album 1996
Love it Always
💛💛💛💛💛
Sorry J - their first american tv appearance was American Bandstand with Dick Clark.
Wow def leppard and Bill paxton at the same place =o
I guess If they`d have continue with the sound of the song "slang", they would have made it better in U.S. in that era. Still, I love the record.
Feels a bit like a Collective Soul song
Heavy, I love that song from CS
I believe this is the first song Lep let Vivian write.
He also wrote the Chorus for Demolitian Man
Stately man, stately....
Bill Paxton 😢
Wonder if they are using a prototype of the JCM2000 Marshall. Those came out in 1997.
Leno said this was there first US TV appearance, what about when they performed Tear It Down at the 1989 VMAs?
Exactly what I was thinking.
"Network" TV appearance. ABCCBSNBC. Back then, other nets didn't count.
And they were on American bandstand back in 1983 I think
And on the 1992 VMAs.
Yep the American Bandstand performance in ‘83, I was just going to say that! What was Leno smoking anyway?!?
Rip Steve
sounds like Mark Rankin from Gun
🇬🇧 I have always like 'Slang' album 🇬🇧
Twister and Slang came out the same year? Music time seems to fly by faster than movie time.
I cant believe they never appeared on Letterman or any late night prior
great yet hardly recognized song
just checked .
What a travesty!!!! 1996 is the first time Def Leppard has been given a spot on American TV?
I think they had been on many American tv shows before, just not, "talk shows" or whatever they're called in the states.
I've seen them on shows like American bandstand, MTV and America's version of TOTP.
Grunge look
Unrated album and song a tune
kinda sounds like U2
The million dollar question: Which one of the boys slipped ol' Teri 'Bangin'-Hot' Hatcher the ol' sausage?
Phil has his shirt on because live TV….. unless he feels fat ? Either way he rocks !!
I love that song
