I Want My Mtv

- This is an Mtv promo circa 1984. Mtv used it to encourage customers to demand cable companies to add MTV. There were some that saw this as the destruction of our youth, a reoccurring theme throughout Rock 'n' Roll's history. Some towns actually banned the channel.
MTV in the 1980s: “I want my MTV!”
MTV in the present day: “I want my MTV back!”
If only Mtv had stayed that way
MTV Classic.
I hope Nick listens too.
Nick Classic.
+Allanbuzzy
Surprisingly enough Nick did do something like "Nick Classic" called The Splat on Teen Nick, it's on every night starting at 10:00 PM
I already know about the Splat. I'm still waiting until they change TeenNick into Nick Classic.
It didn't change until Viacom got their hands on it. And then change again once Paramount got involved. That was the catalyst for nothing but reality television today.
MTV really was important...……………………...without it I don't think new wave would have gotten much airplay...………………...radio stations didn't play it
I want my MTV, the way it used to be, when they still played music.
@TMSL info please
Amen
And 80s music too, not this modern crap!
Ughhh.....Video Killed the Radio Star bud...
i mean...we shouldnt complain really...we have LITERALLY every music video ever made one click away right here on youtube. for free, on demand, no commercials (if youre smart and use adblock like every well adjusted human being should) and most of all dont have to wade through mounds of crap before the video you actually wanna see plays! (we have it better than ever nowadays)
Billy idol,the police,Boy george,Cindy..those were the times...
Zontar82 pat benatar
David Bowie
DAVID BOWIE!!!!!!!!
Pete Townshend.
Madonna
What's cool is that ALL of these artists are still big stars over 30 years later--even Boy George with Culture Club, who made a big comeback in 2014. Cyndi Lauper and Pat Benatar are household names, Billy Idol sells out his concerts. And you don't need to say more about Sting/The Police, David Bowie, and Pete Townshend!
CL does constipation ads, I think! That’s a huge comeback!!
@@CoachHouserYeah, and people in their 20s get constipated too; your point?😂
Knowing that Sting did "I Want My MTV" unironically and then sang it ironically in Money for Nothing makes Money for Nothing that much better.
Ikr!! When u listen closely u hear him in the song literally! For years I didn’t even pay that any attention!
Prince was same way on groups he produced/created!?
Sometimes you’d hear him in the background!
One funny song was Chocolate (pandemonium album) by the group “Time!” He’s saying mash potatoes gravy etc toward the end of the song!
Prince had a sense of humor!?
It used the rhyme from Don't Stand So Close To Me.
@@orlandojohnson5742Literally?😂
RIP MTV
Saem Iftikhar it ain’t dead
Seth Finley Music & Films Might as well be

MTV, is now spelled Empty-V. No more music videos.
Just some reality shows on MTV. : )
laughable now, but back then... Im sure MTV was a respectable television network
It really was...even thru the 90s
MTV really was important...……………………...without it I don't think new wave would have gotten much airplay...………………...radio stations didn't play it
@@robinsss Oh i did not know that. I though new wave was pretty popular. So MTV saved new wave music.
new wave was blocked by the radio stations from 78'' to 81'' in America…………….………………………...if it sounded European which synth pop did they didn't play it…………….…………………………...Whip it was the one exception probably because they were American...……………………………………………………………..other than that synth pop was blocked here…………….…………………………………………….Mtv was the only large media outlet that played it and once they did since they were hundreds of thousands of homes the turned people into stars in 3 weeks…………….……………………………………...that saved new wave because other than so Cal radio stations no one was going to play new wave
I think you mean ellipsises.
August 1, 1980: MUSIC IS BORN. The greatest musicians - Van Halen, Nirvana, Elton John, Whitney Houston, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Madonna, The Cars, - and the list goes on and on - could be seen in videos and heard through interviews from MTV. The channel was truly out of this world. January 1, 2000: MUSIC DIES. The millennium fazed out MTV and ushered in commercial noise, depressing country, and angry rap.
Music is the true sign of our times. 🎼🎼🎼
Now those were the days MTV ROCKED !! I was a teenager during the 80's and will NEVER forget when MTV launched - it was AMAZING! WTF happened to MTV - they show NO videos anymore, its nothing but trash, reality shows, and more trash! I loved my VJ's all of them were great I think Nina was my favorite out of all of them, but I liked the others as well... Just Nina was so much fun and I loved her interviews w/the guest band groups, singers, etc... I always LOVED Nina's hair, and cut mine like hers a lot; besides cutting/coloring my hair like Madonna and Cyndi Lauper too -My mom NEVER knew what my hairstyle and/or color would be when I came back from the stylists. NOW Madonna, she was my IDOL for years and years! She had MTV on their toes w/all the videos she made, they were all AWESOME !! I want MY MTV BACK!!!
Pal, punctuation is supposed to hug the words in front of it to stay warm. The way you wrote those quotation marks and commas and stuff is going to make them get cold.
This Gen-X-er wants my MTV back, too! :-(
Well they show music videos 24/7 here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MTV_Classic_(American_TV_channel)
Do you ever heard about channel decay?
It’s not really their fault The industry and Labels after the late 2000s around the start of the 2010s stoped putting big budget into music videos after streaming took over, they realised they didn’t really need a huge video to sell music anymore with videos being so simple there was no point in MTV playing them and they found success in reality TV, it’s not like they completely abandoned music they tried to play music videos, cartoons, Movies and Reality TV during the early 90s-late 2000s when music videos were still something amazing to see in each genre
We all want our mtv! The one that played great music all day long...
This just goes to show you why the 80's where and still are the greatest decade of all time! The music, the movies, everything! I want my 1980's!
miss the MTV I grew up with:((
Same I grow up watching miv shows obviously it’s a legend
I was born in the late 90s but i miss the old and original MTV that actually played great music. TRL forever bby
MTV premiered on August 1, 1981, died out before 2015. Many street light are using out of date Mercury Vapor Lamp, and Sodium Vapor Lamp before installing LED street lights in Detroit & Vicinity back then.
We've gone from "I want my mtv" to " I miss my mtv"
Now THOSE were the days when, in the words of the song "1985" by the group Bowling For Soup, when "MUSIC was on MTV"!!!!!
Keith Andrew Bounds Now we have to watch it on MTV 2 and most of the time we can’t watch it at all. I wish I was around when they actually played music.
Imagine the amount of content that could be replayed as if we had this exact MTV back. 3 new channels 80’s 90’s 00’s, with special concerts, TV Shows like Daria, TRL, classic interviews… this should have been a subscription service already from 2.99 a month per channel since the music is catered. Viacom is sitting on gold and they killed proper entertainment and the soul that held it.
If they did that I would subscribe in a heartbeat. It should be non-stop live, like real radio (and MTV was then) not streaming. It's just not quite the same with streaming. We can of course find recorded tapes people upload on the internet archive, which is something, even if it's only select dates.
Rip MTV (August 1st 1981- October 19th 2009)
rip Bowie 💔
Stupid bee.
Why would you rip Bowie? Seems like a nice bloke.
Before it became the Ridiculousness Channel!
I was right in front of my t.v when it first aired. Music Milestone for sure
This is some legendary stuff
mtv looked like so much fun back then it was born in the 90s but y'all was the best in the 80s mtv
Okay, here’s all the artists who appear in order:
• 0:20 - The Police (Sting, Andy Summers, Stewart Copeland)
• 0:25 - Pat Benatar
• 0:27 - Pete Townshend (The Who)
• 0:35 - Cyndi Lauper
• 0:40 - Billy Idol
• 0:44 - Cyndi Lauper (Again)
• 0:49 - David Bowie
• 0:53 - Boy George
Back when MTV actually had what the M stands for, MUSIC!
If they started airing music right now you probably wouldn’t watch it
@@loganbuckley2010because "music" now sucks.
I want my Mtv to actually be about music again...
I want my MTV, the 1980s and my childhood back! Lol.
New Yorkers of RUclips can help if Viacom Headquarters is located around them.
The 1st part was made in later 1981 or early 1982. Wow, it's junior high school all over again. :)
im in junior high nowadays, the only good thing we git is the gorillaz
1979 to 1982 were good years to be a teenager in high school in America back then. I speak from experience. 😎👍🏻🇺🇸
Im 28 and probably 80-90% of the music I listen to is from 70's-90's with most being from the 80's.. before everything went 16 and pregnant to jersey shore to the Kardashians to gangster rap... I remember sitting on my dads lap watching beavis and butthead or Acdc videos or the true I want my MTV commercial with dire straits!
Carguy 2204 Bro I listen to that music too and I love beavis and butthead
Now you're in your 30s...and stop bragging about your age.
Happy 40th Birthday MTV!
i really miss mtv. wish it was music now like back then and not the crap it is today with pregnant teens. no music whats so ever
cjk247 Is it Music Television now or Reality Television 😒
I miss my MTV. listen to us and bring back what defined us. I can careless about underage hillbilly mothers.
Or ghetto trash.
this was the 80’s version of “hi, i’m ___ and you’re watching disney channel.”
Except MTV actually played good music.
What the fuck happened to MTV? I remember it so well in the 80's. Goddamn.
Yes I remember these ads. I remember the first day MTV was on think I was about 10. I didn't change the channel for a week. Like most kids in the '80s I was raised by the television. So with this during the day and skinamax at night, I was set boy.
I want BACK my MTV!!!! :/

to me it looked like rick astley but even younger than he was during never gonna give you up
Back when MTV was something we really wanted............
Ahh, MTV, the youtube of the 1980's
I wish that mtv still played those awesome music videos and still had headbangers ball on too.
I miss watching MTV the way it use to be.
If they brought MTV back to videos it would only be filled with Pop and Hip-Hop. They would have to have another "Headbangers Ball" type segment within the programming to play all the good rock and metal. But, it could be done. Now with 50,000 channels available, and with 50,000 satellites and still nothing on, I would think someone could start up an all music video channel again and be successful with it.
Is there any rock coming out anymore? I game up on music 20 years back. Every now and then I hear something I like but most of what I listen to for music is the 1930s-1990s, maybe 10 songs after 2000 except for the occasional ambient track.
I didn't think there were any new rock/metal bands out there anymore.
True. Great music is dead. Sure, there's half decent bands way off the radar, but the mainstream is bimbos and hip-hoppers.
@@v-town1980that could be said dor every generation of music
Even so, I wouldn't hold my breath. There are music radio-type channels, and what they consider "metal" nowadays isn't really the same anymore. It's mostly more extreme death metal. I mean, I like death metal, to a point, but it's geared mostly to the extreme, not the more conventional, popular kind of metal of 70s/80s. And "classic" rock (dumb name) is too safe and radio-friendly that it can be dull.
I love MTV
This is a helluva ad! No wonder George Lois is the real-life Don Draper.
Blessings in an abundance of the faith. I salute you. 😘🙏Grace and peace be unto you and to this place. Thank you. God bless you. 😊Will you believe and receive Jesus Christ as your LORD and personal saviour??? I do. 🌈🙏

Modern Love
I cannot - I CANNOT - believe they got ----ing _David Bowie_ to do this.
that'd be like . . . that actually has no precedence. that'd be sort of like getting Martin Scorsese to do a Pepsi™ ad, only not direct it, not have anything to do with it other than say "I want my Pepsi™!"
(the fact that he was ultimately STUNG by the buzzing MTV™ fly is NOT lost on me, however)
This is when they really were MTV I don’t know what the hell they are today; they should change there name.
