Elantra N is definitely underrated. Not saying people don't appreciate it but as a daily and as a performance car, it is one of the best values out there. Insane that Hyundai can make this car in today's time. I love mine. It's close to perfect as any car I've had
Awesome to see you finally driving a (heavily modded) Veloster N DCT and on track! I still need to let you review my stock one in the canyons if you're still interested and in the East Bay. I'm getting new tires soon and doing some cosmetic mods.
The Veloster n definitely lacks top end compared to the Elantra n. It's more of a torquey down low setup with the smaller turbo compressor. The Elantra n pulls to redline. Would love to see more en content. It's especially more eager to slide it's rear end. Elantra n comes with a 25mm rear sway. The Veloster is like 19mm.
Albert Biermann made the VN to be more fun than fast so having a torquey low and midrange powerband helped with that. And you don't really need that thick of a sway bar in the VN since it has a much shorter wheelbase which causes it to rotate well on it's own. Also since the VN and EN share the exact same drivetrain the EN's turbo is a direct swap into the VN and you only need the KN hot pipe. All other hardware can be reused from the VN.
Really good stuff Fenton! Your mountain run reviews are great but the track content and 10/10'S driving is next level. And love laguna. Any upcoming trips to Georgia? Would love to show you around our local tracks (i.e., AMP, Road Atlanta) and local mountain roads which rival if not best the NorCal touge scene ;) LMK.
I just remembered the N cars also have a built-in lap timer screen in the dash you could've used. And the CarSceneKorea YT channel is partnering with MOK Racing to sell some of their in-house products in the U.S. and internationally, like those magnetic carbon fiber shift paddles that Veloster is equipped with.
Nice video! Too bad about the traffic. Good seeing you and Andy at Gridlife, agreed it was a great event. I thought you went to Laguna Seca more recently than 4 years ago. Any reason you don’t go to this track more often vs Sonoma/ Thunderhill? Hopefully see you at the next track day.
The turbo is the huge lacking part of the powerband. No amount of tuning can work past the small turbo. Just did an EN turbo in my VN and yeah, it's a lot more power. Like I already had a stage 2 tune in it, probably made 280whp, and it feels like I just +60hp it from just a turbo swap. Even uses the same stage 2 tune just fine. People have pushed the EN turbo out to 380whp and that's just too much for even track driving. Happy where ever my current power levels are as this is already quite a bit. Just want to get better tires for next year's outing as I want to compete in my first Gridlife event.
Hey look, it's my car, but newer, and better. I think all of the veloster engines have that problem, they're very much mid range cars, better for twisty roads than race tracks.
That Veloster N turbo is so bad, clearly no top end lmfao. Thank God they fixed it with the elantra N turbo. Btw zygrene have you driven a similar track preped elantra N like this veloster you just driven?
@@mokracing 230f for the water does seem high. So it was running an oil cooler? Good to know, guess these need extra cooling for the track. Is that the same with the Elantra?
@stevemartegani yup at the moment the dct specific oil cooler sits in front of the radiator which isn't helping with the water temps. we have some things in plan to address both 😉 as we will be looking into adding more power. EN sees similar issues with decently fast drivers behind the wheel, mostly oil temp being the issue. manual cars seem to fair a bit better
fantastic driving, it was super fun collaborating with ya! let's do it again with more power and a few other items on the car next time :)
Wish you had the chance to lap the Elantra N. Bigger turbo, more planted. Phenomenal setup, does not get the attention it deserves.
100% agree
it's ridiculous that the veloster N didn't get that bigger turbo. love the VN, can't stand the EN. hatch > trunk, much prefer the smaller car.

Thanks for the generous offer! Too many places to visit, not enough free time. If only I could go full time RUclips 🥲
@@Zygrene I mean it and no worries :) Local GA tracks, twisty roads (and a few well-sorted cars) will be here, whenever you get around to it!
this car stock is so much fun to drive on the streets i love it, best purchase i've made hands down
The stock is slow. I have VN and after sxth stage 2 it's a different beast hands down. Can't ever go back to stock

Someone need to bring a lowered Kona N to this would be awesome to see
Ah man looked like a blast!
Shout out to Mok racing! Great guys

The elentra N has the newer and revised Turbo. The Verloter N was the first gen

Gotta use the N button 😂🎉
Its too bad they slept on this car and now we don't get any more of em. What a great nugget.
Gotta love the N cars….
Hope you got to try some of the many k power industry products at gridlife

There's no way stock turbo pushing 370 whp. I got sxth stage 2 doing around 290-300whp and it's maxing out turbo. Getting hybrid VN or en soon

Good question

Water and oil. Forgot which is which.
