I was born in Mystic back in the 60's, but sadly we moved to California when I was 6 months old so I dont remember it...... It looks like a beautiful place to live.
it’s a shame you couldn’t visit New London but the smaller towns are more your thing and Mystic is too famous to not visit on its own. don’t worry about being British, 1914/15and 1940/41 earned your country the respect of the locals as your need for ships helped the local economy greatly since they helped build many of them…you were in the heart of submarine country there!
@@steve-marsh If you ever return to the area, I highly suggest taking the ferry from New London (next town over) over to Block Island right off the coast. It's an hour ferry ride. Magical little island to spend an afternoon!
Really nice video. This is my home town and you did it justice. I was born and raised in Noank and live in Mystic. I am 1st generation, my mum is from Scotland. Hey, just because no planes/trains were involved doesn't mean this isn't quality content. Always happy to see your stuff in my feed. Truly beautiful places that make me want to dig out the watercolour palette. Had to chuckle about the walking - some tourist must really complain. We were once in Chepstow and asked the person in the tourist office for directions to one of the attractions. She sketched the route on a map and said "Oh you know it's quite far. Wait, you're Canadians it's just a 30min walk!" Stay safe!

Beautiful New England scenery and old, quant towns. I've been to the States 9/10 times on Organised tours ie Route 66 but mainly under my own steam and it never ceases to amaze me how the towns are always devoid of people. Thank you for a great video report on Mystic! I just got back from doing the exact same trip by train from Penn Station, as part of a trip to NYC, and your images from 3 years ago brought it all back. Except that it was 90F when we were there. Also lots of tourists, not unmanageable but I was very glad to have booked my restaurant ahead of time. And yes, we did see the bridge open several times. PS we travelled business class from NYC to Mystic, because we wanted a reserved seat (it was the Saturday before 4th July holiday). But we came back to NYC 3 days later economy, mid-afternoon, and there were plenty of seats.
Lovely! I thoroughly enjoyed seeing our stomping grounds through your eyes. We have been keeping our sailboat in Noank for nearly 30 years... you shot some footage from our yard where Solstice was over wintering. Thank you!

I appreciate that you took the train, the road through CT is long and boring (Interstate 95) but you wouldn't have had much traffic at that time of year. Good for you for walking about, most Americans would not understand that! If you ever want to do thing again when you're in NY, you could take the Long Island Rail Road to the last stop Montauk Point (same amount of time) and that is definitely walkable and BEAUTIFUL! Hi! I just came across this video. Welcome to New England. I love walking around Mystic too. My family and I have our own adventure days and check out different places around the New England area too. 😊
It's such a gorgeous town, I really wish I could come back and do another video now I'm a little more competent at these things :D Thanks so much for the warm welcome you give everyone who comes to possibly the most beautiful corner of the whole world :)
Great video! I’m happy that You decided to add it, even if isn’t directly connected with flight reviews😉Always good to see some beautiful, sunny places, especially these days!
Third time lucky for this video but well worth the anxious overnight wait. Excellent travelogue; very interesting. I was delighted to note the Italian tricolore on a boat in Stonington. Trust me, the crush of tourists in the summer might detract from the charm. I particularly enjoyed the references to the film Mystic Pizza; one of my favourites.
cascinagianni I’m so glad you stayed patient as I tried to get this online and liked the video :) thanks so so much for watching, love that movie too!!!
Great video! I'm from Connecticut and Mystic is beautiful!!! Stonington is also really nice to visit.. it does get crazy in the summer but it's nice to walk around and go to the beach afterwards. Glad you enjoyed your stay! Hopefully you get a chance to come back in the warmer months . Dubois beach is really nice in the summer along with the lighthouse.

Was just talking to a former work-mate in Noank today! I love Carson’s! Mystic is great but Connecticut taxes are high! Stonington is also neat - like Portugal. Big Portuguese heritage there! Stonington Scallops are a must! Glad that you had a good visit! Some public transit in Groton. Where America builds most of its naval nuclear submarines. Also where the US Coast Guard Academy is. Also near to Foxwoods Casino - a big draw there.
Just found this video detailing your Mystic visit. I live just two hours away, so reach out if you revisit. That area is a favorite destination for my wife and me, a Dublin expat. Cheers.
Steve, your videos are excellent! I especially enjoy the Scottish destinations. But next time you visit the Nutmeg State, you might try flying from Edinburgh to Bradley International Airport (Hartford-Springfield). Last time I checked (pre-COVID), there was at least one non-stop flight per day. This will spare you a horrific drive in heavy traffic through New York and southwestern Connecticut. Rent a car at the airport. Then take Interstate 91 south to Route 9, which runs southeast along the Connecticut River. Be sure to stop in Essex for the Connecticut River Museum and a meal at the historic Griswold Inn. Essex has an old steam train you can ride, too. Visit nearby Gillette Castle if you have time. When you get back to Mystic, don't miss the Seaport. It's a wonderful museum. Plan to spend several hours. Mystic has a good aquarium, too. Follow the coastline west to Guilford, which has the oldest stone house in New England (dating to the 1600s) and many other picturesque old buildings around the town green. Neighboring Branford has scenic boat cruises among the Thimble Islands, which have an interesting history. There is a trolley museum that straddles the Branford-East Haven town line, with an old trolley you can ride along a shore route. Hope you get back to CT!
Oh my, thanks so much for this info, I’ve made notes for next time! Fantastic recommendations, I just adore your part of the world! Can’t wait until I can trace back and continue the adventures. Best wishes to you!

When over in Massachusetts we were staying in Westfield, Near Springfriend went to Old Sturbridge Village an 1830s recreation settlement with locals in period costume in the stores and on the streets giving talks about days of old. A must visit if you`re ever in the area. Also the Springfield Armoury is good for a couple of hours. ATB Dave.

Hi and thanks from a Scotophile in Nashville, TN, US. Your video was the first result of interest on a search for Mystic CT., in prep for the Classic Wood Boat Show there in August. Backstory is that we plan to move to the Black Isle in 2 years (God willing!), where my hubs hopes to get into building classic wood sailboats. You narration is divine- as the myriad regional Scottish accents are my favorites anywhere! Thanks for a great channel- we'll be stalking it now.
Having lived on Cape Cod, MA and now Milford, NH we have, of corse toured those same areas. As always, enjoy all of your videos. (Miss your Lady though😉)
The bridge on Rt1 going up was cool. We ate at Red36 and watch train bridge spin and train zip by. Nonstop fire truck sirens. Parking is crazy. Great trip though
catching up on some of your past vids. Thank you for all the great trips and bringing the towns to life. I miss the East coast! I hope you get back to visit the States soon. You'd like the outdoor life of south-central Idaho! But if you don't venture inland, The Chesapeake Bay is close to home for you.

Glad you reply. I am learning a lot. What voice over mic are you using Steve. Often you tubers add this in "More" so you don't have to keep replying to peoples questions. Thank You.
John Fothergill oh good idea - I can use this lockdown time to add little bits like that and clean up the page. I use a Fifine mic I got for £30 on amazon, it was on offer at the time. Cheers :)

With the Corona Virus the Mystic Seaport furloughed a number of employees and told them they would not be coming back. The museum is in financial trouble. Seems parents don't bring children to museums anymore and a 19th century village is no match for electronics.
klayofthemystics oh no! That is so sad! I really hope when this is over people flock to these kinds of places, we can’t afford for them to be lost forever :(
Like a lot of mid size towns in the US are spoiled by power lines strung on poles down the street. No wonder they have so may power "outages". A strong wind and the poles are blown over.

Mike Jasenak hah you got yourself a deal! :)
Steve it is a very inspring video. My partner and I planning a trip to Mystic, hopefully once everything goes back to normal we can book a flight to US
Nasil Gezdim ohh my fingers are crossed for you! I really hope you get to that most wonderful part of the world soon! Thanks for watching and for the kind feedback :)
I looooove foreign accents, it just adds to the amazingness of the video.
Thanks so much Tiffany :)
Thanks for this video! I def want to visit Mystic~ My new bucket list place! I can see so much that I normally wouldn't through your videos! Keep them coming!
Regina Curlee thanks very much! Yes, it’s a wonderful place, I’d love to go back some day and hope you enjoy it as much as I did :)
Great video no Snow in winter time... you were lucky.
I feel I was very lucky - the weather was stunning!
I don't know why you apologised, I loved watching this and think you should do more.
Thanks so much Luke! :)

Your personality made the tour interesting

New England is the most beautiful pace in America

I never been to America but it looks interesting 🤔
What a beautiful place! So adorable! Dream trip!! Great video Steve!! 👍🏼
Erika Marsh awww why thank you! I wasn’t sure whether to even put it up 🤷🏼♂️ lovely part of the world, those houses eh!?
SteveMarsh so lovely! And some great affordable real estate in Stonington too! 😆
Erika Marsh loose change 🤣
Omg that's a long walk from Mystic to the borough. I NEVER new anyone that did that. We have Ubers (taxi) now. I hope you had a better go of it if you came back. Those areas do get congested in the summer but the restaurants are open.
Would love to visit it. How convenient! A few hours from NYC by Amtrak.
Your next chapter will be supercool! Look forward to coming up to the Black Isle and checking out your boats :)
@@steve-marsh then he’ll be glad tae know I’m an excellent baker, too; always happy tae barter scones & pies for travel Insight and good craic!
Having lived on Cape Cod, MA and now Milford, NH we have, of corse toured those same areas. As always, enjoy all of your videos. (Miss your Lady though😉)
I wish Alicja had been there with me in wonderful Mystic, I am very jealous of where you live - another trip there WELL overdue now! All the best :)
Good video and interesting,
i live 1 hour from mystic! i love that town!
I am so jealous Cesar!
@@steve-marsh :)
Wonderful video!
Thanks so much Jeanna! :)
Great video, what a beautiful area, thanks for all your efforts.
Andrew Gurney thanks so much for the support, wasn’t sure whether to list this one 👍🏼
Wonderful!
Jim Smith cheers Jim! Got it online at last 🤣
Headed to mystic in the morning
JEALOUS!!!!!
Thanks so much for your support! I am so desperate to get back, a special place to me :) A few years back I did a road trip from South Dakota west to the ocean, and had a short time in Idaho, but boy do I need to come back and explore more! The problem is there are a lifetime of adventures in that great country! All the best to you! :)
@@steve-marsh Yup. South Dakota to the coast, that's my neighborhood! : )
Steve! You might could have taken an Uber to Stonington! Love your videos 😁
Magpick Magpick I’m such an idiot 🤦🏼♂️ but the walk was more interesting 🤣
great report
So many things I wanted to say to you during this video! Haha :D Looks like you found my neighborhood (all captains), and people stand in line for innumerable things! XD Mystic Pizza, omg, I love that movie, thanks for sharing this piece! Hats off. Those ships, why were they all named 'Lynn'? :O I read from that sign in Stonington Point: 'Welcome - Enjoy the pandemic tri-state view!' so I guess my mind is full already this morning! XD Lucky you got to travel so far before shaft got lose! .)
One of those captains homes is just waiting for you :) This was a trip I appreciated all the more because it was so close to not happening at all and wow what a place! Just drop me there and I'll live happily forever without leaving the State of Connecticut again!
@@steve-marsh Sounds like falling in love with good old Connie! .)
The state is small but very thing is big woow
LOOKS SO MUCH LIKE FISHING VILLAGES IN EUROPE AND SCANDINAVIA. A MIX. THE HOUSES, STYLE, WOODEN HOUSES, WHITE AS OUR COAST HOUSES IN NORWAY.
MANY SCANDINAVIANS AND EUROPEANS CAME HERE IN THE OLD DAYS . CLEARLY SEE THE INFLUENCE AND WHY THE IMMIGRANTS LOVED THE PLACE AND STAYED
Cheers :)
@@steve-marsh £44.99 Amazon. It sounds good though. You can make the best video in the world but if your audios crap it spoils the video. Cheers Steve. Check out the Saramonic Blink 500 Dual-channel Wireless Microphone System. You can wear them on your collar.
John Fothergill so true! Hey, stop tempting me to spend money! 🤣
@@steve-marsh 🤣
You know you've been in the US long enough when you start saying "apartment" ;) haha
"the seaport built on blubber"
Nice place ... authentically "Yankee"
WOOW
Where did you stay when you were here?
With the Corona Virus the Mystic Seaport furloughed a number of employees and told them they would not be coming back. The museum is in financial trouble. Seems parents don't bring children to museums anymore and a 19th century village is no match for electronics.
klayofthemystics oh no! That is so sad! I really hope when this is over people flock to these kinds of places, we can’t afford for them to be lost forever :(
My old stomping grounds
Oh I love it so much there!!! (and can't wait to be able to go back!)
Shamrock at 1.29.
Yes Sir! :)
Mystic Pistic
Like a lot of mid size towns in the US are spoiled by power lines strung on poles down the street. No wonder they have so may power "outages". A strong wind and the poles are blown over.
You must have legs and feet of steel!!!!!!!
Have you been to Boothbay harbor or Bar Harbor Maine. ? Steve. You'll love it
