I like to think of the eyes as a happy accident! The 1954 Godzilla actually had googly eyes in the movie so I like to think that the eyes are just an accuracy to the suit, even if they were (I’m guessing) a mistake!
While I do agree to some degree that the claws on the hands could've benefited from being painted to some degree at the very least the same color as the foot claws, looking at the suit itself, it is actually suit accurate. I mean, the movie itself is black and white and too dark to tell if the claws had any paint going on, but looking at photos taken of the suit years later in color the claws on the hands were flat black. So I don't know if the lack of paint on the hands is a legit Q.A. issue or not.
If this guy had painted toe nails, at least a beam and in your case, no derp eyes, this would be one of the best releases. I just got mine and generally like it a lot. I didn't end up with any QC issues myself... But a beam would still be nice.
Where did you get that atomic breath accessory? And which Godzilla 1954 do you like? Neca or S.H.MonsterArts, because I need to know which Godzilla 1954 is better, I think S.H., now you say your opinion. Nice review!
Getting gmk at the end of the week. I have to get him now since he is a web shop exclusive and I'm pretty sure his after market price is gonna sky rocket
Is it just me or SHMA likes to do the heads slightly smaller and the necks a bit longer than they should? And allso, in the movie, when it closes up to his face, they used a diferent piece that looked a bit diferent than the head of the suit, and it seems like SHMA used this design for the figure inszead of the head the suit has.
Hey Steven! I noticed here that your 2014 Godzilla has a super neat paint job in the mouth. Did you repaint that or did you get that lucky? I'm in the market for the standard 2014 G man, but I'm so hesitant to order online, due to those paint apps. I assume conventions might be the best place to "maybe" find one in person?
Nooohohohohoo it doesn't, it's very sloppy. It's a crapshoot getting a good one, to be honest. I'd wait for a renewal once the next Godzilla movie comes out, assuming Bandai does do so. If you have Spitfire, you're good. I think so, at least.
Because of what people are saying; they're making them smaller but they're *not in scale.* People want either one consistent relative scale, like most X-Plus or the video games, or actually do it right. 50 meters is half of 100, so the figure should be 3", not 4.7"
LOL!!! Good review and great intro XD !!! Just two questions: WHy the paper bag?? (I slightly suspect why due the googling eyes ), and, did you ever Heard about some giant Godzilla model kits to be released? I remember about a reissue of the Kaiyodo 1989 of 1 meter of height, and the mention of even the 1.8 meters like the display figure in the presentation of Monsterarts 1989 Godzilla and SHin Godzilla
I live this figure pretty much everything is perfect. I like the Googly eyes on this one and the stylized sculpt making it more realistic than the suit. Only thing I didn’t like is the loose arms on mine and the lack of accessories
Great Review as always! I'm really hoping my eyes won't be that bad once I get him. I'm still keeping my expectations low for this one. I still find the no accessory thing bullshit lol. We should've gotten something with this figure let's be honest.
Found it new for $132 on Amazon, I think it's a fair price considering I never plan to actually use the roars or anything. maybe the lights once in a while.
I have this figure and luckily the eyes on mine are looking more forward and down, not off to the sides like the figure in this video. Wow, the one in this video looks cross-eyed. I've read that the eyes consistently vary from figure to figure. This is the only S.H. Monsterarts G I have, the rest I have are NECA.
I don't see the issue with the eyes because 1954 had very off eyes which I find horror to and considering 1954 was designed after victims of radiation poisoning the eyes are perfect because I've seen victims with eyes like that due to the radiation poisoning.
+Steven's Toy Reviews At 6:19 is that a Red King EX Ultra Act custom? Or am I seeing thing wrong? If they are custom, can you possibly make a tutorial video on how to customize action figures by giving bandai figures ultra act/sh monsterarts joints.
Another great skit another great review. Also do you plan on reviewing NECA's Godzilla 2001 figure when it comes out? Also, I think this video confirms Godzilla's a diva.
Hi, I'm looking for advice. On SHMA I have GMK, Birth Ver. and G2K Sp Col. And I'm looking forward to buy this one (1954) or G14 Spitfire. The thing is that I already have a japanese 1954 Vinyl and NECA's 24' G14. So I'm not sure which one of the two I should get. Or even consider 1964 Emergence Ver. All three of them are at the same price range. So I'd like a second opinion.
I thought about which one a bit, and I'd say go for Spitfire. G54 might stick around for a while, but a 6" G14 won't hurt and it actually comes with accessories. Just know it's not perfect. G64 Emergence..... lol you can wait a bit. Maybe that last of the three.
+Nagato Sora No it doesn't. The NECA is bloated, missing the webbings between the fingers, the dorsal plates aren't correct, tail is too short, and the eyes are off.
+Nagato Sora They went with the suit which we saw most often . Saying the NECA is suit accurate and then changing the argument to they used x y and z so there's no winner is... Not good.
+Nagato Sora No, Bandai didn't. Sakai sculpted the SHMA based on the suit we know and love. He's sculpted many kits based off of it, one of which is the upcoming gigantic X-plus figure. The NECA is close to the suit, the SHMA more so. You can't say "NECA is based off of x and y, but the SHMA is based off of Z, so the NECA is more accurate." You're comparing two things based off of different source materials. Weird poses that don't look right aside (like neck completely outstretched), the SHMA is closer to what we see on screen.
+Nagato Sora No way, the NECA is nowhere close to accurate. The SHMA has near identical proportions that even X-Plus figures missed. And again, you changed how accuracy is defined. There's a difference between what one prefers and what is objective. Some like the liberties NEVA took with the 54, and while it's damn close to the suit, it's not as close as the SHMA. The only true case in terms of accuracy NECA has over an SHMA is G14.
Yes yes yes... Late comment cause I haven't watched when it was released. I'm getting this Godzilla for Christmas and honestly I'm excited as hell, big thanks for your review to give me an idea how well this figure is. I have no problems with it honestly, just wish it had an atomic breath piece (s̶o̶ I̶ c̶a̶n̶ s̶a̶y̶ i̶t̶'s̶ v̶e̶r̶y̶ w̶o̶r̶t̶h̶ f̶o̶r̶ t̶h̶e̶ p̶r̶i̶c̶e̶ i̶t̶ u̶s̶u̶a̶l̶l̶y̶ g̶o̶e̶s̶ f̶o̶r̶).
The mono chrome color they added to him I think works better then the initial prototype colors. I really like the dry brushing effect on it. The colors reminds me of a rock face with the highlights. Another plus which you addressed, the articulation is great. I've been seeing some really creative poses with him surfacing around the internet. Great review as always!
dam! im lucky. i managed to get this guy at $55 bucks on amazon. but i cant believe it comes with nothing. not even an atomic breath. i just use my 64 beam instead
+Steven's Toy Reviews yeah, im getting this soon, it has nice paint job part I don't like on the figure is when they put some light greyish on his belly lol.
I understand what you mean. Just in my opinion i prefer the NECA's head and it's more bulky body compared to this. The things from the MonsterArts i would want on the NECA is the textured skin, the textured dorsal fins and the tail. But aside from those things i want, i really just prefer the NECA over most 54's except the X-Plus
Actually i think S.H. MonsterArts is supposed to be the monsters as if they were an actual creature whereas NECA'S Godzilla 1954 is supposed to look more suit accurate. That's what i heard on a review.
I literally dont understand all the complaints against the eyes on this one. I mean everyone has seen the puppet/suit they used for the movie right? www.filmtakeout.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/010-godzillafest-godzilla-1954-01.jpg
This figure is based on the suit. If you look at the actual suit, which I specifically stated this in the review so you *should* understand why, though the eyes have the dead look, being off to the side, they are symmetrical in that they look fine. This figure? One eye looks straight to the side, the other looks up. One eye might look down while the other one is forward. THAT'S THE ISSUE. Look at this picture of Shin. You see how *both* eyes are pointing down and to the side? That's what the original suit had going on. Now imagine if the right eye was pointed upwards while the left one was fine. That's the SHMA. www.geek.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/shingodzillaface.jpg

*Galaxy brain achieved*
This is the one time i would've thought Steven would've said the eyes are accurate to the show. They were.
They are not. Random placement isn't what happened with the movie, as explained in the review.
Yea you right they're fucked when I look at them. My badd Steve.
While I do agree to some degree that the claws on the hands could've benefited from being painted to some degree at the very least the same color as the foot claws, looking at the suit itself, it is actually suit accurate. Ya know, with these skits you really should consider doing a series :P.
Soo glad for your honesty.
I'm trying to work in an interconnected universe. Somehow, some way all this bullshit is connected.
STEVEN TOY REVIEW-VERSE CONFIRMEDOOO!

The Yak! I think SHMA has a better sculpt but NECA has a better paint job
A few issues being expensive with no accessories and Derpy eyes regardless this is still a decent figure
The more I look at pictures of this figure the more I feel the head looks like the 55 I don't know why but to me it just does
So do i

Are you still going to keep the Neca 54 now that you have the monster arts or are you just going to sell it like the others
Sell it like the others? I haven't.
+Steven's Toy Reviews then I must remember wrong I thought you sold your Neva's whoops
+godzilla 154 necas dang auto correct
Idk why people get mad over the scaling of the showa monsters. If you look up the sizes, they are far smaller than the heisei monsters.
Because of what people are saying; they're making them smaller but they're *not in scale.* People want either one consistent relative scale, like most X-Plus or the video games, or actually do it right. 50 meters is half of 100, so the figure should be 3", not 4.7"
Hope I’m not a bother but where did you get the breath effect piece for the thumbnail?
G64 emergence version's beam!
Also, never a bother! Unless I state what you're asking in the video itself lol

Thank you! And no problem, right here amzn.to/2bTgha4

Steven's Toy Reviews Iol
Steven's Toy Reviews but why?
Gojifan 16 I saw him to
Hey Steve love the review btw. Do you ever think tamashii nations will ever make a actual Godzilla 2003 figure?

Super Mariozilla yeah. They even could’ve just reused the blast from the 1964 emergence version since the blast in the 1954 movie was more misty.
What i like about this figure the most is that the articulation reminds me of the one on g2kk but better. I cant wait to pick this guy.
Im getting this on Christmas.
Awesome I won’t it too
Same! He doesn’t actually look that bad here but hey, he can be messed up!
I would love this also random fact 1954 Godzilla is my favorite Godzilla design
Where do you get all your figures?
I would like to get this figure so I can play and mess around with (like with all my shma figures ) but I really don't mind the paint honestly
Found it new for $132 on Amazon, I think it's a fair price considering I never plan to actually use the roars or anything. maybe the lights once in a while.
I think you're on the wrong video. You meant the kkk Godzilla?
You know Tokyo Tower has 3D puzzle models if you wanna ever use that for opening scenes in reviews. Just saying.
I have this figure and luckily the eyes on mine are looking more forward and down, not off to the sides like the figure in this video. Wow, the one in this video looks cross-eyed. Steven's Toy Reviews yee
Compared with the NECA version?
Very small one in the video. That will be addressed in an entirely separate video later.
They should put a little black on the Fins on his back and more
Lol I love the intro man! Great video and love the video.
what happened to the red and green review?
Nothing.
+Steven's Toy Reviews I love your reviews, Steven. Hoping that the Red and Green review is up soon.
+404Diegonotfound It will be! Just things got shuffled around with the new camera, and it's on the list. Will be up soon!

I saw this guy on amazon for £54. Is it a steal or a no deal?
Ehhhh that's about $70, in USD to be clear. I think you can do better. Check mandarake or AmiAmi's preowned, might find it for cheaper.
Steven's Toy Reviews ok thanks for the tip man love your videos! ;)
The tail reminds me of Kiryu. Fingers cross for MonsterArts G16.
Yeah, hoping it turns out well.
Is it bad that I like NECA's better? I'm not sure what it is though. =/
+Nagato Sora No it doesn't. The NECA is bloated, missing the webbings between the fingers, the dorsal plates aren't correct, tail is too short, and the eyes are off.

What's your favorite S.H MonsterArts Godzilla so far?
+Xj Productions Hmmmm.... I like Birth Ver. and this guy.
Steven's Toy Reviews That's cool! Plan on getting Shin Godzilla and Godzilla (1989)
But the eyes on this figure are supposed to look like how he was in the movie. It looks natural to be honest
Err... Yes... supposed to, but they don't. Kinda my whole point.
his face at 1:56 reminds me of pun husky :D
1:30 who’s down there?
spinoraptorattack Bandai Shin Godzilla
I feel like old man 54 looks more normal lookin 2 directions than one direction
2:41
Keep it up , great video!
I will also stick with my Neca Godzilla too
tbh if i would get this guy i would b e happy with derpy eyes cuz to me it will remind me of how he is derpy in the movie .3.
Yeah, but they COULD HAVE matched the eyes in the movie, but they didn't.
ya true if only they did :(
The eyes on your figure look fine.
I said that.
Oh this looks fun to play with
Hailey B it isn't a play toy. It's a collector toy
@@leonelchirinos795 you know play can also mean just posing him for fun on your shelf and not just bashing it everywhere like crazy lol
Fucking hell. I surrender. I am defiantly gonna get this figure. God damn it XD
Not accurate head size, should be bigger like the suit.
+Miguel Bunagan I think the head is a just fine size.
+Steven's Toy Reviews yeah, im getting this soon, it has nice paint job part I don't like on the figure is when they put some light greyish on his belly lol.
The eyes are supposed to be like that. In the movie his eyes pointed off to the side. And in all different directions.
You didn't listen~~~~
Nor read any other comment that addressed this.
if only they did this for the Millennium figure
+XxDancindonut1 i dunno its not my fault i get bored
Anyone notice shin in the background
Goji 2014's yes
I still like the birth version a bit more.
legit question here whats the point of shading on the figure?
I will just stick to my NECA 1954
Only 1954 about him is the name and his head
+Swedish Gojira fan 2000 and the hands, dorsal plates, tail, feet, creases to mimic the folds, etc, etc...
No, the NECA takes a few too many liberties to be suit accurate. The closer of the two is the SHMA.
Sloppy eyes on this guy Bandai? Really? Even Neca does it right (kind of)
I think he's better with the derpy eyes! Catches the suit more!
I literally dont understand all the complaints against the eyes on this one.
I mean everyone has seen the puppet/suit they used for the movie right?

Hmm.
I understand the point; I just have a hard time seeing the issue with it being the 1954 suit. If it were any other Godzilla, it'd be far more blatant.

you're rude about the eyes I don't mind the eyes the eyes are freaking awesome so be happy with the things of God because what you get is what you get
It's a product, not a gift. I'm being realistic, you're pretending this is wonderland.

Fuck off
Those eyes just kill the figure for me. Absolutely terrible
Godzilla king of the kaiju Just because it's accurate doesn't mean it's good.
Take a look at victims of radiation poisoning then you will see why is eyes are so fucked up which gives horror to his design
ew... why..
