I just bought my 83 Supra like last week and it's in really amazing condition. Without any rust however, with a blown head gasket. I'll rebuild the engine and take good care of it. I'm ready for the challenge of finding parts for her. 😈👍🏻
Russell, don't let that bother you. I bought mine brand new from Japan. I also have an 85. I know all the problems I'm going to face at putting it back together. I was 23 when I got it. I loved it from day one. It was the beginning of what all Supras are today. I use to put high dollar cars to shame back in the day with it. Enjoy it. That looks like a Kaminarri aero kit you have on yours.
Hope your feeling better and the mk2 stock or modified is always a fun ride. Iv had my 85 mk2 since it was first sold and has stood in the family I just need to get back on it and finally finish what I've started. Great video 🤙
biggest hate about it is just the lack of parts you have to find everything aftermarket and some of the people who have the parts just raise the price way up just cause there is so few
my car has so many small details missing on it but thankfully I have a 3d printer and can make some of these myself how I want them but jeez so many of these things are just so hard to find
If you put two turbochargers, an intercooler, and an appropriate radiator on a 5M-GE engine, your Celica Supra might perform like a Vauxhall Lotus Carlton aka Opel Lotus Omega A. That's the beauty of that boat anchor engine, it's a boat anchor because it's made from a lot of steel and aluminium, which in turn makes it strong enough to be suped up.
My cousin had a black 84 p-type. In the 90s when I was learning to drive I got to handle that beast a many times. Once buried the speedometer. Much love to the MK 2 wish I had one today. Good luck with your health bro and nice ride!
@@RussellSandersfor a number of companies it's because they've seen a lack of interest or interest come and go. After coming back to the Supras this year, after a ten year break they're seems to be a less predictable following. I would say it's much less based off the forum. Even back in the forum days, you couldn't make enough to make parts for these cars.
Funny that you mentioned the plastics being brittle. I know what you mean, it's old.. but the plastic they used is really high quality. My car has 90% of it intact and it's an 81.
My uncle is giving me his. It’s a 5 speed, ‘82. Car has been sitting in his back yard since the 90s it’s definitely in rough shape hopefully I’m able to save it and bring it back to it’s former glory or better.
1 thing I hate about my car is that I don't have 1! I am in MD and there was someone that a supra just like the yours. But sometime last year 2020 I was passing the house and I saw that the front end was smashed in, a little while after that I didn't see it anymore!
Hey I also have a celiac but like how old the car is it’s been having some problems so I decided to rebuild the engine I’m just having some trouble finding some piston rod bearings just wondering if you/anyone has some ideas?
I have an 85 Celica Supra too and I feel you w the weird idling, I just added an aftermarket air filter and my exhaust is popping and idling weird when I start braking, do any of you know what it could be :(
Im restoring my 1983 Supra but have a bunch of exterior parts missing/damaged. I’ve also like you noticed a lack of after market parts, do you have any tips to find parts?
I just got my 85 silver running i like the power my 5m has being in the pacific northwest the little car loves the mountain roads but yes the 2j stigma is a thing that can get annoying but the coumunity i have interacted with so far seems chill
What can you do if one of the computers like the TCCS, ECU, EFI etc brake down? Are there aftermarket replacements? I suspect that my 1994 Toyota Camry Executive died because the EFI died. The engine suddenly (literally the car was fine one day awful the next, and it never recovered) started running very roughly and the exhaust was very smelly because of unburnt fuel in the exhaust. Replacing the spark plugs and distributor had no effect, so I assumed that one of those obsolete computers like the TCCS, ECU, EFI etc had failed catastrophically and I wrote the car off. It was 25 years old and had done 300,000 km (186,411 miles) anyway, and it was a boring old Camry. However I dread something similar happening if I get a 1985 Celica Supra.
Yup. I had that same generation as well. I loved it. But you are right. It's slow 🐌 for a supra, but it's fun to drive. People really love ❤️ the Toyota supra.
The guy down my street has a super clean mk2 Supra. When I mean clean I mean no dents no scratches and I wouldn’t be surprised if there was no rust ( haven’t looked under neath of the car) I’ve never even talked to the guy before but boy is it a sight to see going and coming from school.
man I daily a bone stock 85 L-type (automatic 🙁) and get asked the 2JZ question constantly. if all the "supra" trim pieces weren't clean and original I'd swap it for JDM celica XX stuff just to get rid of the supra badge stigma
I used to daily this back in high school. It’s a Toyota it’ll do whatever. I drove this just cruising last night for 2 hours straight. No doubt this thing will last.
Bro I have the chance to get one just like that , but all black , has the same fander, all inside is new like stupid new , the engine was redone by the owner ( mechanic) , ac cold, no cracks. What size wheels are you running on the car now
Remember guys, don’t go to car meet at all if you don’t have a supra!
