I use to take riding lessons there in the early 60's. I always got a gentle horse to ride named Matinee. (had a roman nose) Always drew straws for him and got to ride him every time. There was a horse named Crew Cut, Apple Sauce, and Lucky Strike, a big white Hunter. A little pony named Mickey Mouse ridin by a young boy. That big white horse in the film maybe that is Lucky Strike looks like him.

I'm delighted that you enjoyed the film and that it brought back some fond memories. That's why I posted it.

I grew up across the street from the academy. I lived next store to the Penny's house. They had a carnival there, but I was a little guy and always afraid to ride the horses.

Went to OMA from 1949-1961. Changed to Oakland Academy (no military) in 1956. Most of this video is earlier than 1950. I remember all the horses named. and I can name a number more: Turnpike, Escapade, Sugar Plum (Bumps), Miss Canada,, faux pax, Diane Brady's horse: Caramel, Nils Lommerin's horse: Goldie & Miss Pep. It's only the last portion of the video which was shot in the 50's

      Bill,
Thanks for your comments. I obtained these movies from Andrew Penny who was the nephew of John Sarka. He lived in the house across the street from the Academy. Beyond the film, I have a very significant file of photos of the OMA.

@@williampalleria2381 I spent most of from school time after Oakland in Worcester, Otsego County New York. My father had a 125 acre dairy farm. Since my fathers was not planning to pay me after graduation, I went back to the city area and my first employer was Radio City Music Hall on the Service Staff. I was an Usher, elevator operator, had a fixed post at the exec door. I was promoted to an usher Captain after a 5 min chat with the President of the hall and then made one of the assistant managers. Lots of Fun how ever spent most of my adult life in banks and bank vaults.
