Aerith died, but Cloud just like imagine she was always there, along with their group.. In other imagination, it's an alternated ending for Aerith that dont died, which Cloud managed to save her from Sephiroth's masamune.

the devs recently clarified that it's not actually for Cloud, or even Zack. It's for everyone in her journey that she has to leave behind. They have confirmed this.
It's an arrangement of Rufus's Welcome Ceremony theme and then his speech once the choir comes in. I haven't found a cut of it yet on youtube other than this credits theme. OST comes out next month on CD so hopefully by then.

If we are to compare Aerith and Cloud, they both originally have failed first/puppy loves (Zack and Tifa). I am a huge Tifa simp, so trust me when I say this is how I see the devs went with these remakes. Even with choices, it's always the choices with Aerith in the ending credits and it actually fits "better" story-wise, as caith sit says "poor Tifa". lol
