00WolfSpirit Exactly what we have here is a really good port of a PS4 game. Just because there not Mario doesn't mean Crash is mediocre. They are some of the best games on the PSX, not equal with Pokemon Quest at all, and certainly not a worse game than Kirby or ARMS.
With Crash and Spyro getting remakes, I'd like Rayman to get one too. The first game was extremely difficult but really fun. I'd dip back into that game for Switch.
I would actually disagree with the final point. I have played so many hours of these 3 games back in the day that I haven't even spent a fraction of that much time playing real deal Mario games unless you count the Luigi mansion games and Smash Brothers, which I don't. I was mainly a Zelda and Metroid guy when it comes to Nintendo. Crash was way more fun and inventive to me back in the day now it's more like the original recipe by today's standards.

There's a fine line between being genuinely difficult, and being difficult by lag and poor design choices. Whenever I fail I want it to feel like it was my fault, not the developers'

LOL. Almost all video is a complaint about how this game difficult is. Let me remind you. In the 90s the first part was just as difficult as this one here.

Its not so much about handling it though, its about handling it in a cost effective manner. Porting Nintendo exclusives can optimise to the hardware, but this game is literally being ported to everything so has to be cheaper to do than an exclusive.
But the rumours is that the devs thought it wouldn't be possible and that´s weird because crash doesn't look that graphical intensive. It´s like the devs of overwatch, they also think the switch can't handle the game. Well, we have Fortnite and Palladins.
4:17 the developers threw in extra checkpoints? No they didn't. Pity checkpoints existed in the originals too. It's adaptive difficulty where if you're struggling a lot it will throw in an extra checkpoint or give you an Aku Aku (2 hit one if you're really struggling)

IMO Crash isn't floaty and the jumps aren't that unforgiving. There is actually a lot of coyote time and because of Crash's weird hitbox, you can actually spin enemies out of the way much sooner than you'd expect. Also, I like playing with the analogue stick. It's how I've always played Crash games (I started on the PS2 games so it's always been an option for me) since I didn't realise you could use the D-pad until much later and by then my left thumb had just gotten used to controlling Crash with the analogue stick. Weirdly enough, though, I've always played 2D side-scrolling platformers like Sonic using the D-pad and can't un-learn that either.

Cash Banooka is actually a running joke that a certain web reviewer (Caddicarus) does. It has to do with how his stepdaughter pronounced the game when she was like 2. I mean, it is a reference that probably only 5% of the viewers here will get, but it ain't poor spelling.

I loved crash while being a kid with PS one. Today got my copy on the switch. And boy it feels different. There is 100% something off with jumping. I had troubles in points where 4 years old me had no problems. And yes it is easier to play with joy-con d-pad than with pro controller one.
Returning to the comments section because I've been hearing a lot of buzz around the gaming world today that Crash N. Sane may have increased input lag on Switch compared to other platforms. If so, that puts a lot into perspective about Alex lamenting the game having heavy controls while the comments from more experienced Crash fans are saying it's totally fine for them.

Why no mention that brown boxes and tnt are hard to distinguish from alot because its really dark the entire thing like its like theres a filter of contrast , hope they fix this with an option to change it in options
00WolfSpirit i had my eyes tested end of last year then a couple months into this year as i had medication at the time effect my eye sight mainly light effects of dry eye , ive passed both tests and have been told twice i have better than 20 20 vision, playing crash 3 jumping into even the first level you can see the colours are alot darker than usual also jumo to level 3 or 4 the one being chased down screen and youll find that it gets that dark its hard to even tell half the time youre running through shallow water , but yeah cheers for reffering me to the eye doctors but spec savers have saved me from specs twice now , all tests done even my reaction time ;)
I don't know how it is on the Switch, but on the PS4 and PC they're easy to distinguish. One's a bright red thing with yellow text on it and the other is brown

They then try to appease everyone by putting rpg gameplay in it. They completely ruined many games making them advanced rpgs. Assassins creed was ruined when unity came out. Anyone that says other wise are rpg fan boys for the most part. They will find a way to ruin crash bandicoot for the faithfuls of the original.

Alex I love you but the video in the background literally has nothing to do with what you are saying, if you complain about hit boxes and sluggish controls then show examples don't just show random gameplay bruh. Could have done the same with your other complaints and compliments - show them in the video. All your reviews are usually excellent but this felt like a rushed review. Crash is also at least an 8.5/10 on Switch.
SteamDig 2 is great, they expand on the mechanics of the first one and you get a ton of skills to suit your playstyle. I would still watch a SteamDig 1 gameplay (around 5 hours of playtime) just for story's sake, since you won't know who's the missing character in the sequel.
Once again Alex your infectious enthusiasm and positivity elevate every video you make. May have to give this one a whirl just to relive some of that PS1 nostalgia. Cheers you cheeky bugger! ;) But I must say it is disconcerting to say the least to see a Playstation title release when Nintendo have yet to decide whether to bring back the highly demanded Gamecube and possibly even Wii titles onto Switch. trolzilalol I got ya man. I'm simply lamenting that we are getting ports of Playstation titles before Nintendo will even begin to possibly bring Gamecube title to the more than capable Switch. That and their odd abandonment of the Virtual Console in favor of......nothing really. Sure, their eShop has tons of indie titles, and even a few Nintendo arcade classics, of which I own Super Punch-Out, but they have such immense libraries of amazing games to draw from with NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, and Wii titles, and with how insanely well the Switch console continues to sell (buying 2 more in the next month) it only make more sense to bring some variation of Virtual Console, or simply for Nintendo to release huge libraries from these seminal systems for those who didn't hop on the Wii U train!

Used to love playing this when I as a kid but the reboot made me hate it with burning passion! The motor race game is almost impossible to finish first unless you have perfect accuracy! This reboot is brutal!

Never played the original, played crash 1 first and 100% it first and then got to crash 2 and 3 and barely got halfway before I gave up. I found the first crash easier for some reason even though everyone says crash 1 is harder.
If you played the originals, don't think you can be nearly as good in this remaster. The hitboxes were sadly so annoying for me that I only played each game for an hour, returning to the original games afterwards. It sadly broke this otherwise perfect remaster for me.
UniversalTuber it very much is an issue, because I did some tests back then, trying to figure out how their engine handles hitbox collisions. Funnily enough, I couldn't replicate this issue with my PC version, so they might fixed it.
I assume the special moves would be cover in the game's manuals when it originally released. Maybe they should've added digital versions like Wii did sometimes.
The fact that Alex is complaining about how difficult these games can be just goes to prove how dumbed down and hand-hold-y modern games have become. These games on PlayStation were every bit as difficult. No tutorials or arrows pointing you in the right direction for these games. You have to figure things out on your own.
The one issue I have with this on switch though is that everything looks so orange and dark. If everything looked brighter at least, I think it would be more enjoyable to play through.
The circular hit boxes were an intentional choice on Vicarious Visions part. They wanted to be as faithful to the source material as possible. This is why they also kept in more of the same exploits from the original games, such as walking on the ropes of the bridge levels.
7/10 is a bit harsh. They made Crash 1 a significantly better game by changing the gem collection requirements, adding Coco and adding time trials for relics.

I could never got with Crash, played the first two levels then got bored. I might give it a second chance when its on sale though as my hand to eye actually got BETTER as I got older. Really looking forward to Spyro though.
The first 2 levels of the first game? Your might like crash 2 or 3 better. 3 is the best one imo it has really great level variety and it switches up the gameplay constantly from platforming to racing levels to underwater levels. Crash 3 really perfected the formula. On another note tho I’m super hyped for Spyro as well I hope it comes to switch!!!!
I like it better on switch.. I have it on my ps4 pro also but for some reason it feels sluggish / slight unresponsive not sure how to explain it but I like it better on switch it looks good and with the switch pro controller it feels great. Its the same with Doom somehow it just feels better on switch..

I'm glad theres no hand holding in this game crash is designed to be a challenge. So many damn games now days are to easy even the new pokemon lets go pikachu looks like its going to be easy from what i've seen at the moment. Old school gameplay with HD visuals is the way to go for me.

I dont see how reviewers cant get it through their thick skulls that a remaster is just an hd port. If you cant adapt to the difficulty then dont play it. Last time I played a Ctash game was in 2003 in the Gameboy Advance. The original trilogy I played in the Playstation One and my memory failed me. I thought these games were better... Maybe they are and it is just me who doens't care for just running and jumping wuth a terrible camera behind me. After we play Mario, Donkey kong, Shantae, Shovel Knight... well well, it is difficult to like some other games like...these.

Se7en2107 I've had so many people say his jumps were heavy. I don't think they are either. A good medium, I would say more on the heavy side though

I completely disagree I played the original Crash Bandicoot games way more times than I've ever played Mario 64 or any Mario game for that matter I find them a lot more fun than Mario not to mention typical Nintendo Fanboy not liking that they don't do hand holding on basic moves that anyone would be able to figure out naturally but because they don't included tutorial to tell you how to do these easy to do moves he counts that as a negative
I'm sorry, but most of what you said was untrue, and by the gameplay I think you're just very bad at the game.
Alex I love you but the video in the background literally has nothing to do with what you are saying, if you complain about hit boxes and sluggish controls then show examples don't just show random gameplay bruh. Could have done the same with your other complaints and compliments - show them in the video. All your reviews are usually excellent but this felt like a rushed review. Crash is also at least an 8.5/10 on Switch.

SteamDig 2 is great, they expand on the mechanics of the first one and you get a ton of skills to suit your playstyle.
I would still watch a SteamDig 1 gameplay (around 5 hours of playtime) just for story's sake, since you won't know who's the missing character in the sequel.

But I must say it is disconcerting to say the least to see a Playstation title release when Nintendo have yet to decide whether to bring back the highly demanded Gamecube and possibly even Wii titles onto Switch. Come on Nintendo.......PLEASE!!!
trolzilalol I got ya man. I'm simply lamenting that we are getting ports of Playstation titles before Nintendo will even begin to possibly bring Gamecube title to the more than capable Switch. That and their odd abandonment of the Virtual Console in favor of......nothing really.
Sure, their eShop has tons of indie titles, and even a few Nintendo arcade classics, of which I own Super Punch-Out, but they have such immense libraries of amazing games to draw from with NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, and Wii titles, and with how insanely well the Switch console continues to sell (buying 2 more in the next month) it only make more sense to bring some variation of Virtual Console, or simply for Nintendo to release huge libraries from these seminal systems for those who didn't hop on the Wii U train!

Used to love playing this when I as a kid but the reboot made me hate it with burning passion! The motor race game is almost impossible to finish first unless you have perfect accuracy! This reboot is brutal!

Never played the original, played crash 1 first and 100% it first and then got to crash 2 and 3 and barely got halfway before I gave up. I found the first crash easier for some reason even though everyone says crash 1 is harder.

If you played the originals, don't think you can be nearly as good in this remaster. The hitboxes were sadly so annoying for me that I only played each game for an hour, returning to the original games afterwards. It sadly broke this otherwise perfect remaster for me.
UniversalTuber it very much is an issue, because I did some tests back then, trying to figure out how their engine handles hitbox collisions. Funnily enough, I couldn't replicate this issue with my PC version, so they might fixed it.
I assume the special moves would be cover in the game's manuals when it originally released. Maybe they should've added digital versions like Wii did sometimes.
The fact that Alex is complaining about how difficult these games can be just goes to prove how dumbed down and hand-hold-y modern games have become. These games on PlayStation were every bit as difficult. No tutorials or arrows pointing you in the right direction for these games. You have to figure things out on your own.

The one issue I have with this on switch though is that everything looks so orange and dark. If everything looked brighter at least, I think it would be more enjoyable to play through.
The circular hit boxes were an intentional choice on Vicarious Visions part. They wanted to be as faithful to the source material as possible. This is why they also kept in more of the same exploits from the original games, such as walking on the ropes of the bridge levels.

7/10 is a bit harsh. They made Crash 1 a significantly better game by changing the gem collection requirements, adding Coco and adding time trials for relics.

I could never got with Crash, played the first two levels then got bored. I might give it a second chance when its on sale though as my hand to eye actually got BETTER as I got older.

The first 2 levels of the first game? Your might like crash 2 or 3 better. 3 is the best one imo it has really great level variety and it switches up the gameplay constantly from platforming to racing levels to underwater levels. Crash 3 really perfected the formula. On another note tho I’m super hyped for Spyro as well I hope it comes to switch!!!!

I like it better on switch.. I have it on my ps4 pro also but for some reason it feels sluggish / slight unresponsive not sure how to explain it but I like it better on switch it looks good and with the switch pro controller it feels great. Its the same with Doom somehow it just feels better on switch..

“Heeellooo there lovely peeople” - No matter what format this remake comes out on, the physics are off. It’s all eye candy on what is still perfect to play on its original PlayStation hardware or even in emulation.

I'm glad theres no hand holding in this game crash is designed to be a challenge. So many damn games now days are to easy even the new pokemon lets go pikachu looks like its going to be easy from what i've seen at the moment. Old school gameplay with HD visuals is the way to go for me.

Nintendo reviewer reviewing a remaster game originally for the ps1 complaining about bad mechanics in a remaster. I dont see how reviewers cant get it through their thick skulls that a remaster is just an hd port. If you cant adapt to the difficulty then dont play it. Those jumps your missing are because Crash wont stand on a ledge if he only has a toe touching it. Also I dont see a Mario 64 remaster for the switch so why does nintendo get to say shit about the controls comparing it to Mario again?

Last time I played a Ctash game was in 2003 in the Gameboy Advance. The original trilogy I played in the Playstation One and my memory failed me. I thought these games were better... Maybe they are and it is just me who doens't care for just running and jumping wuth a terrible camera behind me. After we play Mario, Donkey kong, Shantae, Shovel Knight... well well, it is difficult to like some other games like...these.
