Looks like a great easy to use smart scope for someone to quickly get into Astrophotography. Not super high resolution but I was quite surprised that the Horsehead nebula was captured!!
Nice review, well presented and very useful. Although my 8” SCT will take better images, I might consider getting one of these to take on trips where I may be able to find darker and clearer skies. Portability is its biggest feature.

Hello, thank you for your work, I am impatiently waiting for a Barlow lens to increase the capabilities of the telescope for the planetary or for small galaxies or nebulae.
    It would be perfect!!!

Thanks! In the unit I have running the latest firmware and V2 app (the officially released version, not the beta) on an iPad, I’m finding as others are that it does not complete a sequence of images.
The spinning ring on the app screen says it’s still taking frames but the counter is stalled with no new frames showing as being taken or stacked. And you cannot stop the imaging session. You have to force-quit the app. Or on one occasion I had to reboot the scope.
It does save the image but it seems to end the stacking prematurely. This was in 4K mode. This bug wasn’t present in the earlier version of the app, which you showed some screenshots of. The new V2 app adds some great features, but has introduced some serious bugs.
That’s the reality of smart scopes - they’re only as good, or smart, as the software used to run them. I’m sure DwarfLabs will fix the issues.

I had this same exact issue a couple months ago. Recently thought I’d check back up on it and was hoping it’d be fixed by now. Do you know if they’ve made any progress on the stacking problem?

For for that kind of money it’s great little EAA device. Of course it won’t compete with larger aperture scopes but it still rocks.

Great review ... thanks! I wondered, how does it align with the night sky? Also, can it be attached to a standard tripod? Thanks again.

It can be polar aligned and fits on a normal tripod.

I was wondering if DWARFLAB is planning to release a ‘Passenger’ Dwarf II. I mean, more or less the same specs but with an upgraded Sony chip.
