    One important point that I do not know if they noticed was that the good samaritan that Hector shot in the face was a serious catalyst for Mike's character arc. At that moment, he know that HE was responsible for that innocent person's life...and it leads him where he goes from that point.

    Seeing that last scene again, they could've easily killed Chuck here and it would've fit well, especially with what Kim said to him in the episode. However, I'm very glad he didn't die here considering what's to come

    In this episode Kim said what many fans believe in-Chuck is the reason why Jimmy became Saul Goodman. I’ve also shared that opinion for a long time but now that I think about it Chuck didn’t push his brother on a criminal route, yes he blocked him from entering the HHM but it’s not the only law firm in America.. There were many ways Jimmy could have build his career and he started to as a court lawyer but he got impatient. He wanted the success and money fast so he slipped, didn’t play by the rules. Chuck was right about him after all.

    • @parkerboy795
      @parkerboy795 2 года назад +9

      There may be some truth to that, but it's kind of undermined by the fact that not only did Chuck prevent Jimmy from joining HHM, he obviously didn't even refer him to another law firm. He even sold him that lie about doing good work and clients would come. So while he may have some validity in his claims, Chuck was not right. At least, not entirely.

    • @Kuralai95
      @Kuralai95 2 года назад +1

      But he was right. Doing the court law (don’t know how it’s called in english) wasn’t good enough for him. Every single time he wiggled his way out of difficult cases was not due to his deep knowledge of nuances in the law but sheer charisma and twisting the words. Chuck knew that Jimmy might play it straight for awhile but then it won’t be good enough for him. And of course he won’t refer someone he knows might be a risk to other companies. It would taint his own reputation. I do believe that as a family Chuck should have supported Jimmy and given him the benefit of the doubt but also understand why he didn’t.

      @@Kuralai95 Yeah it wasn't. He had to build his own firm, support his own way of living, and take care of Chuck who couldn't leave his house. So saying court law wasn't good enough for him isn't exactly something to make him look bad. He needed to actually advance his career and make a better living. I wouldn't say every single time. And I might be remembering wrong, but I dont really recall him wiggling out of difficult cases at this point. Chuck was wrong though. Jimmy wanted his respect and to work with him. That might have been enough for him. But instead, he chose to leave him to hang and dry as a lawyer, expecting him to stay in the mailroom. Of course, his reputation. That's all that matters. Yeah, he should have. Even if he couldn't, tell him and suggest an alternate career path. Instead, he chose to hide behind Howard and let him take the heat of Jimmy's resentment all that time while pretending to support him.

      @@parkerboy795 Jimmy was taking care of Chuck. Why? Out of brotherly love? Kind of. He also owed Chuck for a lot from the past. But Chuck was also a potential instrument of Jimmy's revenge against Howard. Jimmy was pushing Chuck into cashing out of HHM. Even though it would mean a liquidation and many people losing their jobs, including Kim. And not only that. HHM was Chuck's life and Jimmy must have known that. Instead of giving Chuck hopes that he gets better and returns to work, he was being sarcastic about it and wanted to make it so that Chuck actually never returns to his work in HHM, because it would be liquidated. I read all the time in the comments about Chuck "not wanting Jimmy to succeed". Well, these people are ignoring Jimmy's attitude towards Chuck.
      It makes sense that Chuck didn't want Jimmy to work for HHM as a lawyer and also that he apparently didn't refer him to another law firm. Employing or recommending a "former" thief / con artist as a lawyer probably wouldn't sound like a good idea to most people. Well, unless that lawyer is an entertaining protagonist of a show and it's fun to watch and even root for a lawyer who "cuts corners" all the time. As Cliff said: "Jesus. Howard said you were a little eccentric. He didn't tell me you were a goddamn arsonist!"
      Kim was wrong when she said: "You're the one who made him this way." Jimmy was this way long before he was refused by Howard/Chuck. Ironically, if Chuck didn't help Jimmy out of prison and to HHM, he wouldn't become Saul Goodman, the criminal lawyer. On the other hand, if Chuck gave Jimmy the job as a lawyer, would Jimmy be "good"? I keep wondering why people often seem to believe so. It seems like protagonist bias. Jimmy was always "cutting corners", which in his case often means actually breaking the law. Disrespect for any rules standing in his way that he can break and get away with it seems to be rooted deep in his personality. He keeps doing it since episode 1. He's not like "I can't arrange that car accident, what if Chuck would learn about it?" Well, Chuck actually did see the ER bills in episode 2 and it was another hint for him that Jimmy is doing something bad again and that he really shouldn't work for HHM as a laywer.
      So both brothers are bad in different ways. But while Chuck is just deceiving his brother and using legal means against his lawyer cereer, Jimmy is doing worse and worse things, not only to his brother.

      @@quark1153 Yes. Love, respect, and maybe repaying his debt. That wasn't about revenge. Jimmy had to provide for both himself and Chuck which he was barely able to do. Chuck's condition looked like it wasn't getting any better so the obvious thought would be he might as well officially get bought out. Hard to give him hope when he barely had any considering he was broke and Chuck was stuck at home. While you could argue about Howard sending Chuck money, Jimmy didn't trust Howard. I think you got the wrong impression from his attitude toward Chuck. He wanted him to go back to his regular life, but what was happening, that didn't seem like that was going to happen anytime soon and he had to ensure that they were both getting fed and Chuck wouldn't lose his house.
      It does make sense, but it is also somewhat unfair that he never act discussed it with Jimmy as to why he wanted to be a lawyer and what it meant to him. It's also arguably unfair that he didn't give him the chance to prove himself. But really, it is low that he lied to him that he supported him while forcing his partner to take the heat for Jimmy's resentment. I'm not ignorant enough to blame Jimmy's choices on Chuck, but chances are, if he actually gave him a shot, Jimmy might have actually stuck to being a decent lawyer.
      She was obviously saying that because she knew Chuck was right about what Jimmy did, but I'm not sure if she's entirely wrong with the things she said. Jimmy tried to walk the straight path for at least a decade though. He might have been. I get the skepticism as to believing he wouldn't be good, but writing him off as an irredeemable scumbag kind of ensured that he wouldn't think otherwise and stop trying to be better. I admit I have some protagonist bias, but even then, I also can admit Jimmy's flaws. I just think it's disingenuous to say that he never tried to be better and that all Chuck said about him is right. Perhaps, but prior to season 2, while not right, his actions seemed driven by desperation instead of excitement of breaking the rules or disregard for them. For example, that car accident. Again, not saying it was right, but he needed the Kettleman's business. And yet he didn't know the details of what happened or why it did
      I'm not denying that. Especially by next season where they're pretty much the same. Perhaps, but it doesn't reflect on his virtue that Dell, even if what he does isn't illegal.

    To be fair, Kim is obviously biased towards Jimmy in her speech about Chuck being the reason for who Jimmy is. It's of course a huge factor, but not the sole cause. We see that Jimmy did get a chance for success with the cushy job at Davis & Main which had no ties to Chuck. Even still, Jimmy couldn't just do things above board. He circumvented the partners which got him in trouble, then couldn't just bare the consequences of his actions which was just to learn the company practices and follow the rules. I mean the babysitter coworker was annoying, but it was his fault that he lost the partners trust and at least they gave him a second chance. So even without Chuck involved Jimmy couldn't help himself and inhibited his own career
