George Clooney was great in From Dusk Till Dawn, and I think Tarantino thinks so too. He is not saying that George Clooney is a bad actor. And It is true that most of his good films are from before the year 2000. But to be honest, are there many today who can be described as not just an actor, but a movie star? I can only think of Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Cruise. All others I think of as movie stars their best movies are from the 90s, 80s, 70s or further back. If I ask someone what is there favorite movie with Clint Eastwood, Al Pacino , Robert De Niro , Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Gene Hackman, Harrison Ford, Jack nicholson , Willem Dafoe etc., very few will mention a film from after the year 2000. For example take Willem Dafoe, my two favorite movies with him are Platoon and Mississippi Burning. And they are both from the 80s. So there aren't many movie stars today. People in movies today are actors, but not movie stars. So i actually agree with Tarantino, but I don't think it's a dis, He's just telling the truth, and again saying George Clooney isn't a movie star is not the same as saying he's a bad actor.

Truth? Let's look at truth, starting with how to use the word 'movie star'. "an actor who is famous for their starring, or leading, roles in movies." That is literally all it means. A synonym for famous actors. All those names you mentioned are movie stars. Why go on these weird tangents trying to justify something that simply isn't true? The only truth this whole discussion tells anyone is that apparently some people make up their own definition for words. Nothing new unfortunately. Just like people blindly worshiping Tarantino isn't new.

I thought George Clooney did a stellar job in his role in From dusk to Dawn - and I thought Tarantino himself held his own as well so I don't get where this is coming from. Maybe they had a riff, a falling out. Clooney is used over and over in Coen Brother movies and they never make a dud so I feel Tarantino's comments don't reflect the general consensus.

Up in the Air, Michael Clayton, The Descendants, O Brother and Three Kings are forever the best films he's been in and best performances, regardless of box office numbers. Those were also critical award winning movies. The rest were hit or misses at best. All that, combined w/ the fact that he's a kind, generous guy who is beloved in Hollywood seems to be enough. And as he says, he's not selecting projects for box office popularity.

As a fan of Q myself , he put alot of effort into ' Once Upon A Time' and he praises it as his best film......the movie is TRASH! That movie producer is in a weird place and he doesnt even want to make movies anymore because hes mad at comicbooks. Please stop enabling bullys lol. Six bombs? Have you seen Confessions? Have you seen Solaris? Have you seen The Good German? They are excellent films.
Maybe not to a guy who looks like you. You look like a guy who likes Fast movies, or maybe the Transformers... yeah, I think you are a guy who gets tumescent at the slightest hint of a Michael Bay movie being made.
Actually, aye, that's it. I have often found this to be the case: There's two types of movie guys... Michael Mann guys and Michael Bay guys.... YOU? You are definitely a Michael Bay guy.
Six flops? Anyone who is cultured enough to sign on for a film treatment of Solaris, is too far above you, for you comment upon. Their filmography is automatically beyond thy ken.
Clooney is NOT a box Office megastar, but many amazing actors esteemed beyond compare to the rest of their peers, aren't either. People like Mark Raylance and Ben Mendelson, even someone like Cate Blanchet, really... but they do not need to be considered Stars by you, or an obsessive like Tarantino, as they are considered such by the majority of the industry around the world. Clooney is closer to THAT level than any of those actors you mentioned, even Washington.
I hope your tripe never shows in my feed ever again.

Clooney has said many times in interviews that he chooses the movies he makes on how much he will enjoy making them, a chance to work with good friends he does not get to see enough, that he has been extremely blessed to have the kind of career that he has had.
Tom Cruise is a stunt man, no longer an actor. That is his choice. His passion. Denzel is a movie star, a brilliant actor of stage & screen & I am sure does not lose sleep over awards that he has not yet received.

I would agree with George that a career critically lauded films is greater than the being opening weekends in the grand scheme, if Batman & Robin were a huge hit, and Clooney's career were based on similar shallow popcorn flicks (this could include both the 'Fast' and 'Transformers' franchises) he'd be 'that actor' with a back catalogue that wouldn't hold up. 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner and it's sequel, It's A Wonderful Life and The Shawshank Redemption are just a few examples of box-office failures which became iconic despite their respective failures.

For me, Tarantino made two exceptional films: Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. The rest of his work, though I've seen many, seems quite forgettable. I don't think he's as important a filmmaker as some believe. He has a huge fanbase that idolizes him, but his attitude towards certain people has been unjustifiably disrespectful. He did this with Bruce Lee, a pioneer of martial arts cinema, and with George Clooney. Although Clooney may not be a legend like Clint Eastwood, he's been a strong name in the industry. Tarantino’s comments reflect more poorly on him than on those he tries to belittle.
