COMING BACK FROM AN ACHILLES INJURY (FULL RECOVERY JOURNEY) With Workouts And Motivation

- In late April 2022 I tore my achilles in a professional basketball game and had to have surgery. In 8.5 months I did rehab and therapy to get my strength and quickness back. Finally in January 2023 all of the hard work paid off and I returned unrestricted back to professional basketball. This video is to help inspire and motivate those who are struggling with an injury and anything in life that you can overcome whatever it is you are going through. And by taking it one day at a time, you can accomplish overcoming your obstacles like I did.
Hope you enjoy!.

Beautifully made and edited! Glad your back and beat that horrible injury. Im only 5 days in, and man this is the most saddening and grueling time...as you feel worthless and even small tasks seem impossible...how were you able to keep your spirits up man? Thanks again
@@Always_Never luckily I’ve had inspirations like Kobe Bryant and other friends who have torn their Achilles and come back from it so I knew that there was a possibility for me to do the same
Bro, I tore a tendon a few days ago and now I'm on my way to surgery (tomorrow)
I'm not a pro athlete, but good at playing at the amateur level
Your video is so inspirational, I hope I will be back strong soon💪🏾
Thank you so much for watching!, I’m glad it helped!.

Great job Champ, i'm at day 58 after surgery and putting the work in. Your coming back has been impressive and i'll be inspired to go on and on and never give up.
All the best Sir, thanks a lot for the detailed journey
Thank you for posting this video Reggie. I’m three weeks post surgery. I know it’s a long road till I can ball and run again. I’m staying positive and this video helps me keep the positive mindset. I appreciate you posting this journey.
Thank you for watching, best of luck on your journey!
I broke my tendon on March 12th, during a championship basketball game, I'm 31 years old and I've been playing since I was 4, I'm not a professional but I play at a very good level, I feel like I'll never be able to recover my old-fashioned athletic form, explosiveness, sprint, reflexes, etc. It's a bad injury, I had surgery on March 29th and I'll wear a cast until May 3rd then a brace for I don't know how long. To this day I no longer see an end guys.
I would advise to find an alternative option to be in a boot rather than a cast for that long. I’m sure your situation is different but I think the sooner you can get that tendon mobile the easier the rest of the path will be.
I was operated on at the best orthopedic hospital in Italy, every athlete is operated on there, Rizzoli Hospital, fortunately I am from the city, so I would have had the surgery there anyway.
I was given the walker or cast option, pre-op, but then the surgeon chose the cast and then I will probably wear the brace after the cast.
Just had surgery and it was tough trying to understand the timeline from paper sheets my doctor has given me. This video was so helpful for understanding the whole process. Thanks for putting the time in to put this together and show the whole progression of recovery 👊🏾
I am glad that the video helped you!. Good luck with recovery! You got this!.
This would have been my journey too if not for the wrong assessment by a so called pro doctor. But still your journey sir is really an inspiration. I'm now settled in biking walking no jogging no basketball anymore. More blessings to you sir.
Best of luck with your athletic endeavors!
Brother thanks for the motivation. I have surgery @12:15 on monday to have surgery on my Achilles tendon and I have times when I get sad but I'm happy to see that there is hope and knowing that we will make it through. God speed brother and congrats on your recovery!
Best of luck with the recovery 🤝🏽🫶🏽
Thank you for sharing Reggie! I'm on day 51. One day at a time is right... Best of luck on your b-ball journey!
thanks very much!!!!!
Awesome video!
I'm 7 weeks post op and was truly feeling like i'll never actually run or jump again (the way my calf feels) but you just encouraged me to trust the process and i'm hoping to be dunking again now... again, awesome video and props on the edits yourself!
It was a LOT of WORK to make this video!, editing takes forever! The process of coming back takes MUCH longer than my editing skills!, however just like the end to finally making this video, there is an end to the recovery!. Make sure you take it day by day and you’ll be back. Best of luck!.
Thanks for this bro you are a beast and an inspiration...
There's light at the end of this tunnel lol🙏🏾
Gives me hope as I have an important track and field tryout in about 2 months. I had a sharp pain in my achilles tendon when i did a split squat to sort something out in the floor. I can slowly walk already a day after so thank god it isnt too severe. Thank you for sharing your journey.
@@OP-pe4yc thank you for watching best of luck to you. I hope it helped.

1 week in and going with non-surgery. So scared I wont get back to basketball or tennis. Thank you for the motivation!
Some say no surgery is best route. Me being a professional basketball player, it was my best/only option. Wishing you the best man.
How you feeling 4 months into it? How is walking? I'm only 5 days into non surgery as well, and mentally it really takes a lot out of you.
@alwaysreturnNurgirl doing great! Can't do a single leg calf raises yet but I think that's still normal. One day at a time. Do you have a vacoped? Worth the money imo.
@@yisroelmeirhoffman2581 yeah I've seen a ton of videos of people using that boot with good success...how sweaty is it at night? I'm still only in my cast...but when I transition to the boot, I'm wondering if it's better than the cast, or worst to sleep in versus the cast? I'm glad your healing great, and zero set backs! I can't wait to be walking normally again...its miserable being laid up and not able to do anything.
Thanks brother
Great video. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed!
You did good 👍🏽

Thanks very much!
I’m on day 104, non op though. Nothing more I want to do that just play hoop again
The end will come! Keep pushing! Trust me, just make sure that all rehab sessions are taken seriously and you’ll be back better!. Good luck!
Thank you for sharing your journey. Are you able to say if this was a complete tear and where the tear was exactly? Some athletes are taking much longer to recover than this, so it's helpful to compare the injuries. Thank you
@@macytubman136 it was a complete year but without my Achilles separating and rolling. This save me a couple months. Thank you!
How is your achilles now? Any issues? Enjoyed the video 👍
@@GDavis49 I’ve been playing professionally without any pain. Occasionally I have some tightness but that’s all.
Do you think I'll be able to go back to doing hill Sprints after I recover from my Achilles rupture?
@@leroystrokesmen5666 you absolutely can but make sure u stretch Achilles before anything incline and most things in general.
Not sure if you remember this but- When were you able to do Single leg calf raises with your left leg?
I would say somewhere around month 3-4. Not exactly sure but after the boot was off!.
Wish this brother best of luck, I wish I was rich enough to start my treatment, my achilles tendons are injured in both feet. And by the way how much it cost you bro?
@@jawedkualalumpur8995 best of luck on the recovery journey 🙏🏽. Minnesota health insurance covered it all. But without insurance if my would have been 5 figures for everything.
Awesome video, im 4 weeks post op and have had a hard time with nerve pain/cramping in my foot and toes and was wondering if you had the same experience?
I did not exactly have that experience, but I would recommend making sure to do as much mobility work as you can. Will help break up scar tissue !
Amazing story! I’m 3 months post op feeling good. What you do with swelling?
luckily I didn't have very much swelling. they say the earlier you take the rehab seriously and rest it properly the less swelling there will be for the rest of the journey. but when the workouts ramp up and you get that swelling icing and resting is really the only way to go about it. hope this helps.
Reggie, how much of a gap did you have with your tendon rupture? I just had surgery on mine and I had a 2 cm gap. I’m trying to stay positive about returning to athletics. Thanks for your video.
Mine actually never fully separated, clean tear without separating, may have saved me a month. Thank you for watching !
Did they tell you why it happened initially or did you have an injury before, not stretching that muscle or something? Or just out of the blue?
The movement I made that tore it is something I’ve done thousands of times, just a Freak accident. It’s a movement I’m even making now post surgery!.
how painful was your leg after 6 months post op?
it wasn't painful but it was stiff and needed to have scar tissue broken up. that's where the higher intensity workouts came in.
Hi, since what month did you stop feeling pain?
Pain went away basically after month 3 in terms of the scarring. But I’m sure if I rushed back pain would return. The idea is to not feel pain, and only feel the Achilles strengthening!.
Who paid for your surgery and physio?
@@wilsonmoreira9073 luckily in Minnesota, I have great health coverage from HealthPartners that covered everything
