Guys never cut a factory harness. Ever. Buy the harness for aftermarket and splice into that. Use solder and heat shrink on there it’s way cleaner and will last longer.
We typically never cut any harnesses. But when a customer asks us to do this and at the time of this install which was many years ago there was not an amp pro or integration harness available. We had to do what the customer asked us to do. There's many different ways to connect wires including butt connectors, crimp caps, soldering, and other ways as well. Just because people do it one way doesn't mean it's always the 100% correct way. Many people like us have used but connectors for over 25 years with no issues. Yes soldering and heat shrink is also another way and could be cleaner. We just always try to give everybody every option to do these installs especially for the do-it-yourselfer
truth be told, those factory 6x9's have some damn clean sound coming out of them paired with the uconnect - to call them POS's is a bit pretentious. I replaced mine with kicker 4 way 6x9's and I think I got more power out of the factory speakers.
I love these what Not to buy, if you want to upgrade your stock system. It's simple to figure out, first anyone that uses anything made by Sony, hasn't got the first clue what he is doing. It was complete dog crap 30 years ago and is worse now. My god, Pyle makes better sounding equipment, and they sell speakers on Amazon $20.00 for like 6 6x9s I wouldn't use them if they were free and had titties on them.

All the system is good but the sub box is trash, I say it because I’ve used it. The air volume in that box is way too little.

The 8ohm is because ram runs the dash & front doors in parallel to make them 4ohm.
