- A cruel and painful fluke marks a turning point in the match 17:48. Ronnie and Alain meet again seven months after the incident at the Crucible, this time in a ranking final.
On April 22, 1996, at the World Snooker Championship, Alain Robidoux criticized Ronnie O'Sullivan for playing left-handed on his 10-3 defeat:
"Ronnie was being disrespectful to his fellow professionals and should save shots like that for exhibitions ...In fact, he shouldn't be allowed to play like that in a professional tournament."
And Ronnie's response was not the best either:
"I'm good left-handed, I've made 90 breaks playing that way. In fact, I'm better left-handed than he is right-handed."
Happily, two years later, they apologized to each other and became 'good friends' (in Ronnie's words).
The statistics shown in the video correspond to the date of the match.
Cesar Muroya created a unique editing technique to extract the essence of the game without losing the drama involved. Contextual information is also an innovation appreciated by viewers.
This format is not intended to substitute the full version but make snooker more accessible to new fans. The fluency and atmosphere of the game stay in a shorter-length video, allowing even experienced fans to enjoy snooker at any time.

The simple truth.
And, for putting up the score at the bottom of the screen 👍👍
Thank you for your fine work uploading all this great stuff.
Thankfully video and audio quality has improved greatly since this match was played,it was difficult to watch and listen to.
Holy shit Ronnie was cueing like an absolute God then. Belting the shit out of every shot with perfect timing.
Can't believe Phil Yates has been commentating for so long. He sounds exactly the same!
Great match, with great players. Nice to see Robidoux playing at his best level, as the third best Canadian player ever. Much better match than the infamous but funny left hand frame that unduly destroyed his real legacy.
I think Robidoux's career was prematurely ended after the chap who'd made his cue took umbrage at seeing its case emblazoned with Riley stickers. He never seemed to gel with a different cue, much like in the case of Steven Hendry.
Young Ronnie was unbelievable good... and fast! He is The God of game called Snooker!
Top of the line stuff.
Another great upload.
It’s watching a man who is really really great at snooker, against a man who was born to play the game.
Hate to see a bad loser.
The microphone s are way to sensitive in the arena.
21:06 - How many other players would not go for the black on this shot? Few. Very few.
I know I would have but I would have complicated the situation as the black on the spot will make it difficult to pot the red also as black would've had only one pocket to b pitted the other side was jammed.
Same as if Alan would have taken brown instead of yellow he could easily have a Shot on the red in center but he went for yellow and made it complicated and lost position.
Brown was clearly the right shot.
100% of pro players would take the brown there. Why would he even take the black? He would need the rest and it was much easier to play for a red using the brown angle.
Others have already mentioned but here's what I think -
1. Brown was easy as compared to black since Ronnie needed a rest to hit the black.
2. When using a rest, playing check side on the cue ball is always a risky move.
3. Hitting brown with check side on cue ball guaranteed Ronnie to be on the right hand side cushion of the bunch. While hitting black might have possibly ended cue ball somewhere in between blue and bunch.
It’s funny how Phil Yates voice sounds so much more mild than it does nowadays
I just love this face 11:39
Отлично,все -таки смог Рони О'Салливан справиться с волнением в последних фреймах и победить.👍😃🤗
They sure do seem to be calling the miss a bit freely, don't they?
Not really, he could have easily hit the reds.
Was someone making animal balloons during the recording of this match?
🤣
Damn, dude was like a sniper. Almost got Ronnie.
Robidoux looks like mcgreggor trying to make 145
great come back by robidoux just not his night
Is it just me or are these pockets playing a little larger than contemporary tables?
Why wasn't a miss called at around 1:40?
Probably because according to the miss rule, the referee is supposed to judge if the player has made a good attempt at breaking the snooker or not. In this case, Referee Jan Verhaas considers Alain Robidoux's attempt at 01:30 to be good enough and doesn't call foul and a miss.
Hope that clarifies your doubt.
Listen to how heavy the balls sound!
When did they make the switch to the lighter balls?
When ivory was banned
Skikda 🇩🇿 good 👍
I prefer the older days when commentators weren't regularly competing with each other to elicit the biggest laugh off the headphoned crowd and repeating the same oft-used quotes every 10 minutes.
The quiet reverence made watching so much more tense and really highlighted when a joke was uttered to cut the tension.
But maybe I'm just a (not so) old fart.
I don't get the fluke reference. Yes, Robidoux fluked the black and yes he ran a series of frames but then made mistakes when it was critical not to and Ronnie spanked him like greased lightning for the win. Not really a turning point if it ultimately goes nowhere, eh?
Well it was the most significant turning point in the "drama" (which I mean in the theatrical sense). However, there were other turning points, such as the ones you mentioned, however they were not as "dramatic" (again, in the theatrical sense); the match was not a straight line (to use an analogy). After that fluke on the black, Robidoux went on to tie the match at 7-7 and you can see anguish on Ronnie's face. However, like you said, Ronnie ultimately won.
I would kindly object to your last sentence; a U-Turn to take you back home (to use an analogy, of course) is a "turning point" that ultimately takes you back home (which is not "nowhere", but not your originally intended destination (I'd assume)). Robidoux "went somewhere", it just happened to end in defeat after a respectable performance (losing 7-9 is almost as close as it gets, of course, and being tied, again, at 7-7 puts a lot more pressure on Ronnie than 4-7 obviously, especially when the sequence of events to get there has a significant fluke).
Ref left his shoe phone on.

Zero lett handed shots?😂
just wondering didn't Ronnie use left hand this time? At very least should've shake hand by it.
