    IF YOU ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH THE AUDIO AND VIDEO UNSYNCING, HERE IS A FIXED VERSION OF THE VIDEO: ruclips.net/video/pIJCrwNK3qc/видео.html
    The audio and video are not in sync for some reason at the second half. RUclips was editing something out of my vid, so I literally am not at fault here. If it continues I will delete and re-upload. RIP.
    It says video is still processing so maybe this will get fixed. Until then, sorry.

    I think you misinterpreted Longview a little. When the chorus picks up and Billie says he bites his lip and closes his eyes, that isn't him feeling more intensely about his boredom - that's him dealing with his boredom by beating his meat

    I think there’s context you’re not really taking into account with this album.
    1) the band were between the ages of 17-18 when they wrote these songs and around 19 when they recorded the album.
    2) Outside of Nirvana, punk rock had never really been produced for a pop audience before this album. Pop punk existed, but this album advanced the genre light years with Beatles-like melodies and hooks for days.
    3) they’re a 3-peice rock band dude. I don’t know what you’re expecting from guitar drum and bass punk music. This was as slick and produced as the genre got back then. The charm of the record is that it’s no frills power-pop. And after 3 straight years of depressive, heroin inspired grunge and sludgey alternative, this record was a shot of youthful adrenaline.

      I like Brads channel but his reviews/listens like this are where you can really tell that he doesn't know what he's talking about. Not from a musical standpoint necessarily but from a genre standpoint. It's abundantly clear that he hasn't listened to much punk music at all. Allot of his criticisms are out of ignorance and not understanding what punk rock really is.
      He doesn't seem to understand that you can't view all music the exact same way. Also, these dudes were like 17. I don't know what he's really expecting from a 3 piece punk rock band🤣

      A 3 piece band can do so much more than what Green Day did and does. Also who gives a shit about what this did to music?? (that also was basically nothing because Punk and their more interesting sub-genres were still under the radar and just stuff like them or similar " polished " punk acts were in the public eye.). Maybe this WAS the " shot of youthful adrenaline " but in present time, Dookie sounds as intense as eating white bread.

    As an older sub, it's always interesting to see how a new generation reacts to a classic album. Hard to believe this album is approaching 30 years (wow). Back in the 90s, I was never really a big Green Day fan (all their songs kind of sounded the same to me) but it definitely brings back good memories of heading out on a Friday night or amping up for a session at the skate park. Would love to see some throwback reactions to Audioslave or Sublime's self titled albums.
    I felt your assessment was pretty spot on (sounds kind of dated now) and looking forward to more BTiM videos (both new and old). Good or bad, your taste in music never disappoints.

    Not sure about this... He articulates well and I have no problem with most of his points, but I think too much is also taken out of context for an album that changed the landscape of music significantly.
    1. He's not into the style of music so it was always going to be difficult to understand. That said, I appreciate that he's honest about it.
    2. Dude, this was released in 1994 - a time when record labels and industries controlled much of what bands could and should release commercially. There's going to be fillers. I think you're judging them out of the context of the time they were in. There were SO many other (Nirvana-copycat grunge) bands putting out crap after crap! They didn't have Soundcloud or RUclips where they could just release whatever they wanted to. The fact that they made it big within the old model without totally sacrificing their sound/image to fit the generic rock / pop standards at the time is a testament to their integrity.
    3. Again, I appreciate his honesty on his preconceptions of Green Day. But Dookie in 1994 was what broke punk into the mainstream. MUCH of the pop music we enjoy today wouldn't be here if it wasn't for that album. That's just a fact.

    • @MacGuffinExMachina
      @MacGuffinExMachina 3 года назад +12

      I don't think it's filler. Back then, albuns were meant to be listened tonas a whole. You can't have all strong songs. Doesn't make them bad or filler, but they pace the album. Now, most people listen to songs on their own.

    My personal take on Green Day has always been that Dookie, Insomniac, and Nimrod are their golden age where they sound more sonically professional and gradually evolve their sound more from album to album, then Warning is a sort-of outlier in that it's not so big or talked about but its still a solid work and has some of my favorite tracks from them, then American Idiot is a solid album that unfortunately got them hooked on a very specific radio friendly formula that stunted any sort of growth from that point. I feel like it's hard to say they "sold out" when they signed and made Dookie because at least at that point they were still allowing themselves to grow artistically but after American Idiot...yeah. Like I can only imagine how much better they'd be if they had let the art and themselves naturally evolve out of the punk roots and aesthetic instead of going perpetual midlife crisis with it but hey at least they're making bank I guess.
    The first two are okay if you like the vibe Dookie goes for but I prefer where they go from that sound.

I’m sorry but I wasn’t a depressed kid who hated his life, got picked on and beat up, felt invisible, blah blah blah. I had a super happy child hood with a good family but I was a fucking total clown with loads of energy so when I heard Basket Case on MTV as a 10 year jerk off kid, it made me feel so good inside and fill my little bastard soul with euphoria. As a fair amount of people here have mentioned, Nimrod and Warning would probably be your favorite albums from Green Day; they're the albums where they branch out the most in terms in instrumentation and genre, and they pull it off pretty well.
    Out of the two, I think I'd recommend Warning more, since it's shorter and a little more cohesive imo, but you can't go wrong with either.
    Either way, as someone who genuinely loves Green Day's entire run of albums from Dookie to American Idiot, I'm glad you were willing to give the band another chance.

      Naw. He's still Brad. Fantano has said some things positive about 'Kerplunk' and 'Dookie' (maybe 'Insomniac', in which controversially, being my favorite) in the past if I'm not mistaken. I believe he isn't as hard on 'American Idiot' (I'm not much of a fan, partly given the time I was introduced to their music, it being barely out of the Bush years, sorry. I do applaud it's cultural significance overall.) since he was a college freshman in his wannabe anarchist phase when it came out, although he probably holds more nostalgia over their 90's stuff.

    The perfect median of hardcore punk Descendents and Gorilla Biscuits to a more pop punk vibe of Blink 182 and Sum 41. Green Day is a product of Husker Du and Replacements obsession during the mid to late 80s. By 1990 their big brother band Operation Ivy had ended and Billie Joe took the torch and ran with it. Brilliant momemt for youth culture and music.

    • @somebraveapollo8211
      @somebraveapollo8211 3 года назад +1

      Someone who is, I guess, considered Gen Z or late-Gen Y, it took me by surprise that someone would mention Gorilla Biscuits, Hüsker Dü, and the Replacements on a channel run by a TØP stan.
      Hung out with older punks when at pub gigs with my dad. I remember telling them the music I dug at the time, mostly internet viral, low-res stuff I could find: "Who Put Timmy in the Trash" by Roid Rogers and "Dog Police" by Dog Police, which I found out was prime, 80's, LA strip scene post-punk whose videos were only shown once on MTV during its first full year on air, back when they had to literally crate dig. So it wasn't exactly hard to get into stuff like the Residents or Zappa in the future, or really into their harder-edged, more "serious" contemporaries.

He's critiquing a 3 piece punk rock bands album, that they put out in 1994 when they were 17, like it's a Radiohead album🤣 what does he expect from a 3 piece punk band lmao

      The problem is that he didn’t get American Idiot. He went into it expecting a heavily political album, and was so tied to his preconceptions that he never realized it wasn’t, so he hated how the album was ‘not cohesive’ or ‘recycled ideas’, which are just wrong criticisms. You can dislike the album, but the reasons he gave for disliking it are plain mistaken.

    I think what you're feeling in the lacking is the apathy underlying the entire album. Not that they didn't care about the album, but that the songs are supposed to convey - on some level - the Billy doesn't care enough. This is an album best appreciated when you feel emotionally burnt out

    I don't think the problem with this album is that it is outdated, but that it is a teenage album. I mean, it hit me really hard the first time I listen to it, back when I was 17 (in 2013) and I was obsessed with Green Day and pop punk for, like, two years. It resonated with what I was feeling at that age: boredom and confusion. And now I still dig it, but just because of nostalgia. I still think this is the best Green Day album and the best proof you can't show to a stranger to the band that this was a great group once. But if you're not a teenager the first time you listen to Dookie... I don't think you can really enjoy it that much... I mean... We're not teenagers anymore...
