as an artist, i have two suggestions! 1. always choose a canvas that seems too big in the store, believe me, its gonna looks so much smaller on a home wall 😄
2. if you dont have money to buy a frame, just buy/mix some (accent) color and paint the sides of the canvas really neatly! it will look super stylish!

I would just diy a frame for cheap. You could use small pieces of wood you can cut with little wood scissors you can set them to cut angles. Simple and affordable.

FYI, if you want your curtains to look more opulent, you could use 2 curtains on each side. I came to also say you could make and stain/paint a frame for the art work, using trim from somewhere like B&Q and use a hand saw and inexpensive mitre box. It's all coming together beautifully!

The black curtain rod looks better than the ikea one tbh also with canvas paint the sides and ut doesnt really need framing :)

Hello thank you for posting. We live in a 2 bed flat (we tried to sell but after 5 months we have called it quits) way to expensive to move so we’re looking for some affordable small space living stuff, buying a fold up table for sure . We also have a 7 year old and a little garden so we’re lucky in so many ways x

Or charity shop a canvas and paint white before painting patterns

You should try to make a “frame” by getting thin pieces of wood, making the corners angled, and gluing them on the edges of your painting 😊 i think it would create that thin sunken in frame style like in your inspo pics 🩵💚

Wow, stunning change with so little stuff. I'm impressed. Also would like to ask you, is it the same in the UK as it is in the US where you can make a lot of changes to your apartment? Do you have limits?
You're quite limited here in my experience! Some landlords / agencies are stricter than others though. I asked if I could swap the curtains in my flat (not v common) and my agency/landlord said yes!

They make it look more homey and put-together, which is their function, so yes, they are functional. Not all curtains are meant to block out the light
