- Gameplay and overview of the ELEVENTH expansion pack to The Sims 4. This time it's an English countryside farming thing of sorts. Livestock to raise, eggs to hatch, critters to befriend, and I spose there's a cottage or two to live in. Let's just see if it's worth that $40 price tag.

So! Regarding my statement about future videos at the very end. To elaborate:
_I do not plan on reviewing any more Sims 4 packs,_ other than full expansions most likely. There are only so many times I can say I'm disappointed or that something sucks, after all.
The Sims 4 continues to get new content all the time and I generally just don’t care, man. Over the past seven years and 50+ videos I’ve made about it, I have said everything that I wanna say about it, many times over. At this point I feel like I’m going nuts repeating myself. Like, we all know EA is a pile of turds and the core gameplay of The Sims 4 isn't gonna change all of a sudden, so I haven’t bothered talking about the last six or seven content packs because my heart simply isn’t in it anymore.
I value my time enough not to waste it on covering things I’m not fully invested in. Years ago now, covering this series went from “ooh, I get to make videos on The Sims!” to “ah crap, I _have_ to make videos on The Sims.” It became an obligation, then a burden, and now it's just a pain in the dick to keep up with.
So yeah. I’m tired of this onslaught of products. Exhausted, honestly. The series has gone off in confusing directions with monetization schemes I don’t care for, and it's become clear the new content is being made for an audience different than me, someone that's a specific breed of old school simmer. I’d rather not waste my time and yours talking about overpriced products made by a corporation I dislike. So going forward I only plan to check in on the series when a full expansion comes along (if that), since at least there are only one or two of those a year. That's as much as I can stomach.
Thank you to all of you for watching over the years, and I truly appreciate all the messages you’ve sent in asking for more Sims videos. But for all intents and purposes, I've mentally checked out and left The Sims behind. Which is fitting, since it left me behind years ago.

This game is seven years old and it shows, Sim AI is definitely stuck in the past, and $40 base price for each expansion pack is ridiculous, they should be $15 at most. The Sims 5 is long overdue at this point, but EA knows they can get away with continuing to support The Sims 4 and releasing overly priced expansion packs.
Perfectly understandable. The seemingly endless onslaught of dull content for the already dull Sims 4 feels even worse when you realize the game’s already older than the Sims 3 was when it came out.
Can u do a review of the farmland mod?
Honestly, I'm surprised it took you this long. I checked out on TS4 shortly after its release, and the only reaction a new pack announcement got out of me was "Sweet, new LGR video soon!" But even there you eventually started feeling the repetition. There are only so many ways you can react the same way to being given the same thing, and only so many Ralph-limbs you can cut. It's nice to get clarification though, even if it was pretty obvious by now.
What I'm trying to say is, you did good. You lasted a lot longer than I would have and you kept it entertaining throughout.
I think a better name for this expansion at this point would be “The Sims 4: Milking It”

I think Sim Traits need to do what Lot Traits did, and separate the bad traits into an optional Challenges menu (like Fatal Flaws in The Sims Medieval). If you want to make a Vegan Sim right now you need Lactose Intolerant AND Vegetarian, which only leaves one trait for their actual personality, it's too limiting.
I think instead of traits they should just have labelled them as strengths and weaknesses or something. This really makes no sense sometimes. And it could work like the Sims 2 had fears and wants.

I'm wondering why diets like vegetarian and lactose intolerant are set as traits, especially since you only get three in this game. Wouldn't having them as tickable options be better as a whole? I'd need two dedicated traits just to have something close to a vegan character. Even with this, it wouldn't change the sims lifestyle or philosophy, it just makes them sick when they accidentally eat the leftover mac and cheese in the fridge.

Huh? What traits exactly? Vegetarian and lactose intolerant won’t make it true vegan. Your sim can still eat eggs and honey. I think this was a perfect pack for vegan trait or something but maybe there aren’t that many dishes to make it possible?
I think they need a new trait system or lifestyle system of dietary preferences for sims separate from traits or bring back having five traits from sims 3 or something, but I think with lifestyles ect that's a bit much so having a new system of dietary preferences would be better

I totally understand why you're stepping away from reviewing Sim packs, but I will be honest and say you're basically the only big RUclipsr I trust to review them. It's obvious to me most of them are too scared to say anything bad or ask for much from EA if it destroys the relationship they have with them. Even if that means they end up convincing other people to spend hundreds of dollars on disappointing stuff.
carl’s sim guides gives pretty objective reviews, you should check him out. i am still also sad that he’s departing from sims content but i completely understand it
Yeah, but nowadays where simmers buy packs for one door or window, what point is there in reviews anymore? Everything is so surface level, there is no intricate feature that need further investigating or even explanation. Everything is straight forward and there are not multiple ways to achieve something in the game anymore. It's just a building and dress up game.
So what exactly are reviewers supposed to give insight on? TS4 is an expensive old game at this point that hasn't done much in terms of surpassing or even being on par with other Sims games. Of course LGR is bored with it. 😔
Actually checking these reviews out since the sims 4 is on a huge sale on Steam. Only reason why I’m debating to get anything. But gonna be selective to see what the heck is in some of these “add ons”

People have been modding these exact things into the games for years. Though a lot of the previous games have had some form of these same things included in other packs as well. Canning stations in one and three, sowing machine in 2... And I have personally had a mod in my game for knitting in 2, and farmyard animals and stuff. I remember making a farm and a ranch and so on, in my personal BACC. And I'm pretty sure this stuff was modded into the Sims 4 as well. In fact I'm pretty sure that if I boot my game up I'll probably have the Sims 3 chicken coop in my game, transfered over just like it has been for Sims 2. It's like EA is straight up copying homework at this point in time.
The mod is interesting, but it could possibly break the game. I do wish that some of the gameplay in the mod was in the pack. It would've behooved EA to tap the modder and incorporate the game play into CoL, it would've made it a stronger pack. Instead, EA just broke the game whether you purchased the pack or not

@Sara Jean I have seen up close and personal has a child how turtles are hacked alive with a machete. Now I understand that's normal in farms, but that piece of sh@T of my father made look the whole process (when I was like 5 or 6 years old); couldn't wait until I was old enough to fully understand it.
I feel like this should have all been included in the “pets” (cats and dogs in TS4) pack. Breaking it up into bits and pieces just shows how absolutely greedy EA is, but hey, what’s new smh.
If this means i can maybe have animals without them getting sick, maybe it's worth it. hmm.

I feel like this + Nifty Knitting & Laundry Day could have been a real expansion pack. The stuff is nice, but it ain’t much and it feels heavily overs-priced because it’s not a gameplay pack.
Maybe with a bit of eco lifestyle thrown in as well!

@@Zoe_C95 fans quite literally expected laundry day to be Eco Living. Community voted on a sustainability theme for a game pack. So they introduced an entirely new mechanic just to give us an off the grid way to do it.

You have my respects! You've been the only person that's ever covered The Sims that has always been 100% honest and you've gained my trust throughout all these years. Seeing you not being interested in the game anymore sucks, but I can't blame you, heck I even gave up on it years ago. It's like you said "each new pack is clearly being made for an audience different from what old school simmers like me are looking for"
I SO respect your decision to stop reviewing Sims 4 garbage. I'm still mad that I eventually gave in and bought it a few years ago when it was on sale. Played it a handful of times which is ABSURD compared to how many hundreds of hours I've sunk into Sims 1 and 3 (didn't own 2).
As someone from the UK I can confirm we all have chicken coops in our gardens, and we take our chickens to the pub most evenings.

I played sims 2 and 3 religious YEARS ago, they were such good games with all the DLC (except that one in 3 that added a map that would forever lag your game), but now that 4 is out, I thought I would buy it, and...I was disappointed :/

Honestly I considered buying this pack and then realised that Sims 3 has farming store content and gardening is just better in every way and the core gameplay is so much better so I just went back to that

Been like that since 3 with the god awful store stuff, but the Sims 4 has better vampire, fame, career (it's open not rabbit hole) and farming. it's l feel easier compared with 3 and 2, and it's just not fulfilling. The only thing that keep it going is just mods. I miss the wackiness of 2 :(
@@gardayustisia4528 i mean farming in Sims 4 is easy just like everything on Sims 4. Check other video about it, it's not that hard to maintain the farm, sims 4 feels like aimed at younger audience. Heck sims tend to always inspired or happy most of the time, maintaining their mood doesn't feel as interesting like in 2 and 3
This has to be the biggest drip-fed over-priced game that I've ever heard of... About 10 of these "DLCs" should be bundled together for one fair price... How much should a "FULL" game cost anyway?? The business model is horrendous for the consumer.
Crazy part is that people still buy the shit. Even the folks who complain and claim they're sticking it to EA (by waiting for the packs to go "on sale") lol 😆

Have you heard about Paralives or even Paradox Entertainment? The latter is rumored to finally be working on a life Sim after Cities Skylines was such a success.
Paralives is further along though, but they're actually indie. I think the team only has about 8 people, give or take.
@@randombrokeperson I love paradox! Made some of my favourites like HOI4 and V: TM. Great to hear they’re behind something similar to the sims. And I’ve seen some clips of paralives footage, the creative freedom behind that game is just 🤯 I seriously can’t wait for it to come out, it sounds promising. Finally something to rival the likes of the sims, looks like EA has to step up their game.

Yeah and how is lactose intolerant a personality trait? Sims 4 sims get THREE traits so without mods if you wanna create like, for example, some crude approximation of a vegan sim, that’s 2 out of 3 traits taken up by shit that ISNT EVEN A PERSONALITY TRAIT. Like wtf?

Honestly, when im debating getting a new pack LGR is the only one I go to for an honest yet entertaining review.

Has anyone else noticed they only give you a single empty lot to build on whenever they release new towns now? If you want more than one space to build you HAVE to demolish NPC houses.
There are empty houses you can demolish if I'm not mistaken
Maybe they assume that most players will only ever play a single family in a given save file, hence there's no need for more than one empty lot.
Though even then, what if you want to build more community lots?
@@cocothebrain9955 true but I think the problem in general is that there is not a lot of lots in the sims 4.
exlucing the fact that you could create as many lots as you could fit in the game world (there is probably a engine limit like 128, 256 or 512 or 1024 lots ) but just premade lots on a world there was a lot more empty/uninhabited lots in the sims 3 and 4.
the worlds in the sims 4 feels just so odd, sure they are all different kind of lots but when you almost need to travel between them because you can´t have enough lots to build one of each building something you easily could in the sims 3 this makes the world feels... just so gamey whit you going from Oasis Springs a desert town to Mt Komorebi a japanese snow village just to buy something basic because you could not fit enough lots in Oasis Springs.
Also the worlds are getting smaller. I don't know how big this expansion's world is but I won't be surprised if the next world is the size of a fridge.
@@khaosB47 it's a far cry from sims 3 where the town's were enormous and you could place new lots with console commands and place community lots from unrelated towns anywhere
If only there wasn't a ton of bugs introduced with the latest patch and this pack maybe I would have bought it. I agree that $40 for a pack that's exactly the same if not less than all their other packs for a game from 2014 is not great though.
Honestly the packs should be lowered to At least $20 in my opinion. I guess Ima wait for the pack to be on sale when there’s another pack coming 🤷🏻♀️
Im honestly so pissed about how everytime the sims updates or adds a new pack SOMETHING in the game breaks. Does EA not test their packs at all before releasing them to the public? Like do they really just not give a shit?

Cottage Living is actually a really interesting Expansion Pack.
I love the new English cottagecore aesthetic and it is certainly a nice escape from my actual real life aesthetic which is a modern urban city in Asia which is pretty much IRL Cyberpunk but with even more jank and no fancy future tech.
The expansion pack is also the closest thing to recreating the Ghibli/Miyazaki aesthetic in The Sims (similar to films like Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, Howl's Moving Castle, and Arrietty).
Wait, Cottage Living is an EXPANSION pack????? I thought it was a game pack/stuff pack this whole time cuz that's such a narrow theme. But what should I have expected at this point, I guess
My mother plays this in real life. She's tamed entire generations of blackbirds. If she's in the kitchen, one will come and sit right across her on the windowsill.

11 major packs and innumerable smaller packs later and they STILL haven't added textured ceilings.
It would need SUCH a tiny amount of development too lol
having just recently started playing TS4, I am amazed by how much it *still* lacks in content compared to previous games.
It's especially infuriating cos jungle adventure temples HAVE textured ceilings so the ability is clearly there
@@space-case That last point is why I've been avoiding Sims 4 like the plague since launch. EVEN THOUGH I can guarantee it'd run better on my laptops than Sims 3.

Honestly, I've been a huge critic of sims 4 since the beginning... But I actually really loved this pack. I think the furniture is beautiful.. the animals are super cute and the town itself is so cozy. So I highly recommend this pack if you're into farming games!
Are the lots big?
I find the kiddification of the Sims just so annoying, that I can't even stand to play 4 anymore.
It's not just the bright fake look, but the lack of realism in every instance, the lack of depth to any action, the lack of meaningfulness!
Seems like EA is legit trolling us nowadays. Hope they move away from that in TS5 because I can only imagine them creating a boring PEGI 3 online game, where most things are restricted, that there is no room to experiment and challenge yourself anymore.
For real, I am so fucking bored by the pristine utopian aesthetic the sims 4 has going on. I play sims games for DRAMA and for interesting things to happen but it’s like the sims 4 wants me to create a picture perfect little family where nothing goes wrong ever and do a bunch of boring repetitive tasks over and over
I'm done with ts4 dlc. And even ts5 dlc. It can stand on its own two legs as a base game and I'll update it myself with mods. But gone are the days where I fork up hundreds of dollars in the hopes of getting a better experience.
Wolfgalaxy The Sims 3 has some pretty dramatic stuff. A meteor shower can literally light your house on fire.
@Wolfgalaxy The Sims has always been about super weird drama. What Sims games have you played? The Sims has clearly always been about mature humor with the goofy expectation that ANYTHING can happen in the game. That's what made the Sims... the Sims.

This is honestly probably the best expansion pack that Sims 4 has had in years. Also gives actual, totally different way of playing and world location with the farm stuffs. I'd say this is a rare, buy it EP from me.
Having been to villages like this in the UK, I can safely say that people who bring chickens around in their pockets to the pubs do exist... we don't talk to them though.
I would love a sims UK expansion. Sims socialy drinking outside of a tesco and random drunk sims walking the streets shouting at the local cats.
When I think back, they have often tried to give the Sims games a European touch. This usually ends up looking like how Americans imagine Europe to look, which is usually miles away from reality...

So you’ve pretty much have given up on the sims 4 like the rest of us. It’s cool to know that this pack isn’t total garbage, but I’m not Impressed enough to stop playing the sims 3 in favor of it.

In one day while playing the Sims 3, my sim had a baby, had her birthday/birthday party, electrocuted herself to death while fixing the family dishwasher, and then was revived by the family cat.
Oh great, another boring Sims 4 update. 😫 I know I'll be passing on this one as well. 😄 The last thing I bought for Sims 4 was that Bowling Stuff pack and I said that's it, no more buying anything for Sims 4, it's DEAD!.😖😒👎🏾 They even had the nerve to try to lure us Star Wars fans with that Galaxies Edge story crap. 🤦🏾♀️ Well, that hopefully fell into a "Blackhole".😆 Now I'm starting to dread what they might do to Sims 5.😨

this used to be my favorite game franchise since I was a child and I followed each new release religiously but somewhere after 2018 when it became increasingly apparent that we wouldn't be getting any meaningful content anymore each nnew announcement has been met with disillusioned shrug and them quickly forgotten until the pack comes out the whole community is incredibly disappointed with it

I actually tried out this pack and played TS4 for the first time in years. Right away my sim started getting on their bike indoors. The EP actually looks good but I just can't with the general incompetence of the game.
I always have the feeling with Sims4 that there could have been more. Every DLC also always feels like the content has been artificially cut in order to sell it elsewhere.

I think some of these animal interactions are secretly a representation of the Sims 4 sims slowly losing their minds from this game still getting new packs after this long.
Or its from stuff just coming into existance.
Like imagine.....one day you look a map then bam the next time you look at it another village pops outanowhere.
Or you ask someone....I don't remember chickens existing.....and everyone being like....well duh they always existed.

Wow, I must've been 13 when I started watching your reviews on sims (I had probably started playing Sims when I was 10/11 and Sims 2 Pets DS and Sims Bustin' Out on gamecube were my first games and then I moved onto Sims 2 and eventually Sims 3 PC games). Im 25 now. I remember being so excited to watch your reviews on Sims and the anticipation of a new expansion. I would save up what few dollars I got so I could buy the pack based on your reviews. Or I would watch your gameplay videos in hopes that I could one day play it as well. Even now, on occasion, I still check back to hear your thoughts on Sims 4, a game I refuse to spend my own money for. I bought the base game and the seasons expansion and that was as much as I could stomach and that was while I was in college. I remember being able to play Sims for days without getting tired but when I got Sims 4, I couldn't even play it straight for an hour. Reading your pinned post just further sealed it in cement that the Sims has lost its magic.

You always have the best reviews, I'm glad you made one for this pack.
And I cannot believe they put out a knitting pack separately with this in the works. Cross stitch is nowhere near knitting when it comes to gameplay for the llamas.
Wow, when you look the "trailer" at the start of the video, at 1:13, you think the new world is huge, with tons of houses everywhere, well, at least compared to the other Sims 4 maps. And then you see the map at 9:55, suddenly a bit underwhelming ^^
They also finally added more to base game because of this, like terrain tools where you can make ponds.... at least that's free lol

Yeah, it's not much consolation to say, "if you wait 7 years the base game is pretty decent..." Cause even that's a STRETCH.

I still loved those two cynical reviews he made back in the day. I'm certain those were types of reviews he has no interest in revisiting due to the amount of negativity involved, but Journey to Disneyland Theme Park was the one review I had hoped for due to it being on par with the Katy Perry Sweet Treats pack from The Sims 3 in terms of "does this need to exist?"

One of my favorite things about this expansion is that your lot can have the trait where you have to buy/produce ingredients to make food. It makes it more immersive in my opinion! I love the canning too.

You know, I’m willing to bet this is why packs have been getting steadily less and less content every time. EA knows we all just wait and buy them on sale, and instead of taking that as an indication that their packs need more in them to make them worth buying at full price they said “just put a GP amount of content in this EP, I mean most people are going to buy it for the price of a GP anyways!”
I don't understand the business model for TS4. They really pitched it with, "we'll make as much money as we did with TS3, but over 10 years!"

@@yeahgirl11 - I don't think they're moronic but they're definitely greedy. I think they DO know how to run a game company, but they don't actually care about their customers. They're only taking advantage of the fan base so far, because they are still the only sim game in town. That will all change once Paralives, Paradox Tectonic and who knows who else will finally release a better sim game.
you don't know how many people buy full price. The great majority of sims 4 players do not interact online at all. They just play and move on. No mods, no forums, no videos. Safe to say that yes, lots of people buy the packs first thing.

I think he should do mod reviews for sims 2 and sims 3. It could help save his sanity, recently someone made a mod to make sims 3 less laggy, he can review it like other people had.

I've NEVER bought Sims 4 full price. Started paying it years after release so obviously I knew what to expect. This pack is an improvement but I still have a personal grip with Ea. They've been collaborating more with simmers and cc creators lately tho and that, actually, I find pretty good.

Meh, Sims 3 had its own greed with the Sims 3 store and the over priced stuff packs.
@@MCB741 The difference is that the TS3's Store stuff was often better than the Stuff Packs, and you could choose which individual pieces of a Store set that you wanted--ie: TS3's $5 Cow Corral and $5 Chicken Coop, versus this $40 "expansion."
In TS4, the EPs are overpriced--they're too often WORSE than GPs & SPs, and the gameplay is shallower than the ponds EA only JUST NOW added 7 years into TS4's life cycle. It's totally unacceptable; the $5 Kits are a joke, and EA's doing the bare minimum to milk TS4--a rushed game that should've never been released with so many missing features & gameplay limitations.
I'd put 1>2 and 2>3 the other way around personally. To me, 2 feels like a refinement of 1 with some critical features for life simulation such as aging added, where 3 feels like an overhaul to how the game plays day-by-day and how Sims are defined; thanks to the open-world and Traits respectively.
@@LonelySpaceDetectiveSims 3 definitely did refine the series, but I labelled 1 to 2 as revolution simply because of the major change into 3D gameplay, as well as CAS customization and day to day dynamics.
@@murfeel1173 I wouldn’t say that, you get can better stuff with 50 dollars worth of stuff pack than 50 dollars worth of simpoints. Not to mention the chicken coop and cow are superior in 4.

i don’t have plans to buy this pack until it goes on sale, this should have been a game pack from jump. it’s another example of EA making a fluff piece with no real depth but because people wanted something with this farm theme for so long, they are hyping it more than what it is
The problem is that you're still buying it, even if it is on sale that money still goes to EA; you could download mods for the sims 2 & 3. Modders have truly pushed the barriers in ways EA will never do.
mate this game begs to be pirated, and it's super easyy to do... it's the only way I recommend playing it...

2:51 Polish Chickens are so sweet. I used to work at a zoo and I'd always hold and love on the Polish Chickens we had while I was doing something easier like working a treat stall.
