Intro 0:10 | Overview 0:29 | Box Exterior 3:45 | Unboxing 6:00 Hello Rollers! Looking for a survival game with an immersive narrative driven experience? Join me as we unbox a solo game called This War of Mine! This War of Mine: amzn.to/2IPSIxS
I played this game once, on tabletop simulator and it still haunts me. It is brutal, the choices you have to make are hard and can have severe effects. I really want the board game because it is a tactile experience but I keep holding back. The developers have done an amazing job creating this game of real life. Thanks Adam.
I've played the video game and I had some notion of whats going on. This was truly the first board game that i soloed till the end. It was exhausting and at times depressing, but it carries the message that it wanted well. Some of the writing was quite brutal. It's not a game where you go into wanting to win, but to experience the life of the characters in it trying to survive. There are moments that you know, you are sending this character to his/her death, just like in war when you have to do something drastic, just for the survival of the group.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one! It’s certainly an extremely heavy game but it’s a masterpiece in terms of what it conveys and the emotion it draws out of you. Something very rare in the hobby these days. It’s a gem.
My game (TWOM) just showed-up today. Been on my wishlist for a while. Got it, shipped, for $26.00. I’m super stoked. Wifey saw me looking it over, and asked if it was the same one they talked about on the podcast. The one that was not fun, but was a gut-check game that was made to “experience”. I said, “Yuup”. She’s super interested in playing it with me. She wants to see how she will respond to some of the horrendous scenarios. Good video to get an idea of how it moves and flows.
Was there an empty section in the components container when you opened your box the first time? I just bought mine and it one of the slots was empty, looks like yours was also like that in the video.
Not sure about the UK but there are copies here in Canada and the US. A recent expansion landed too. Looking to get that in the near future when it lands in Canada.
Brutal but awesome game. Don’t trust anyone in this game unless you’re prepared to fight. Getting wounded and having to scavenge for medical supplies is a double edged sword. One of the best solo experiences you will have. Enjoy.
I love the video game and this game has been on my radar since I started getting into hobby board gaming. Plus, I've been interested in everything AR since I backed Tainted Grail. This video makes me even more interested in TwoM. I do have questions and know I could probably go elsewhere for these answers, but what kind of playtime does it carry, and is there any possibility of saving? I know in the video game it takes several hours to complete a story, so I could see the board game having a very long play time. It's very uncommon for me to have more than 3 or 4 hours to play a game, including set up and tear down.
Thanks for watching! I’d say the first time you play it’ll be a 2-3 experience as you’ll be ensuring you’re playing correctly. After that it’s a 1-2 hour experience depending on how experienced and also how well you do on average. Playing solo helps on the time usage quite a lot. Hope this helps!
Thank you so much for this! It convinced me to buy a collectors Kickstarter edition from eBay. Played the first game today and all my survivor, well, didn’t survive the third day! Lol
Hope to see a playthrough of this one...Maybe you have, I'll look see. One of my favorite games. IMHO, best solo. Seems like people either love or hate it. Probably the most thematic game I have. I have left this one on the table for weeks because when I finish a game "Lose a game" I am immediately thinking of different strategies to try the next time. Glad you give it high praise.
I really think it’s a gem. Something very different in terms of the heaviness the game can make you feel from your decisions. We’ll see if I’m able to swing this one on the channel in the future. It sure would be thematic!
Thanks for a great explanation of the games content and unboxing. You are correct this is a great solo game. I will never let it leave my collection. It can tug at many different emotional strings. It’s a great experience. Keep up the great work 😃😃👍.
This is my second best game. It is heartbreak when it comes down to some decisions example, do I let X starve because he/she is ill and unlikely to make it unless I find medicine . Gosh, I remember when one member died I felt so bad infact, I stopped playing for a few weeks! However, the game came out and remained in the table for nearly a month ! Believe it or not, I am a solo player. Fantastic and emotional but so realistic this game is a must.
Ya! Thanks for reply, may be each can be converted to new fitting or idea card like dog (helps in guard or scavenging), flashlight ( when searching getting one extra item) or etc?
Picked it up in the Kickstarter. Have played it and certainly want to get back to it. Warning about the rules though, much of witch are scattered through the book of scripts. The expansion is an enhancement to some of the Kickstarter content.
Not a game to be played if you're trying to decompress after a hard days work. You have to prepare for this one, and dedicate a weekend to this because you will need to come up for air so to speak.
Got the retail version last year. It's a good game but no fun to play at all cause it's insanely difficult to stay alive. Played it just twice probably going to sell it now. They should have added an easy mode instead of the expert mode that makes it even tougher... Thematically of course it's okay to be so tough, but it's still a board game and it should be playable 🤷♂️ some of the characters have practically no positive effect whatsoever.
It’s a game that you have to be in right headspace to be ok if things go south. It’s a challenge and because war is tough, the game is also in that same boat. I can understand you points though. I believe the story it tells is more important than the winning or losing.
@@RollingSolo yeah you're right. As I don't have the time to play that much, I have trouble to use that little time to constantly being frustrated. As I said, thematically I understand the approach. But as a game, I think it's not very well balanced. And what good are all these great stories in the storybook when you never get to them cause you're frustrated or your characters are dead 🤷♂️
Every damn time i want to play this game, i end up just playing the video game. KS box is still in wrap from last year, haha. And truth be told - The video game haunts me with how enthralling and terrifying it can be. War is hell, and the stories that come after it really makes you think about life choices.

It’s something very rare in board games and although it got a good reception. I believe it stands the test of time still!

Wow! Killer deal. Happy you enjoyed the videos. I had a blast doing them and would love to revisit this one again sometime.
26 bucks?! Was it second hand?
@@Tollbi it was second-hand. But in mint condition. Like new.

Good question! Do you have a timestamp I can check?
@@RollingSolo it’s at 16:17. 😊
Yep, I believe it was open for extra storage. Not missing anything!
Is the base game out of print. Not available anywhere in the UK at the moment.
Not sure about the UK but there are copies here in Canada and the US. A recent expansion landed too. Looking to get that in the near future when it lands in Canada.
I actually never heard of this one, I'll check out your play through then see if I should grab it.
Glad to shed some light on it for you! :)
It's my favorite board game of all time!
This is in my top three easily! Love it.

Its a challenge and I love a challenge! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :)
This is on my wishlist, but as I live in South africa, it is also expensive AF. Please do a play through. Keep on making awesome content.
Thanks for watching and this one would be interesting to do. No promises though but we’ll see what the future holds!

Hello MMATT! Thanks for the kind words. It really does hit you like a ton of bricks throughout. Will do! :D

Fantastic and emotional but so realistic this game is a must.
You nailed it! The game is a masterpiece. It’s the only board game that holds any real emotional weight when you play it. There’s nothing like it.
fantastic game and now there is an app to make the scripts easier.
I saw this! I actually downloaded it awhile back and forgot about the app for scripts. Thanks for the heads up Alan!
Dear Sir, it's a good unboxing. One question, what can I do with those five Blanc cards?
Thanks! That’s a really good question. I’d have to look again. Are they completely blank?
Ya! Thanks for reply, may be each can be converted to new fitting or idea card like dog (helps in guard or scavenging), flashlight ( when searching getting one extra item) or etc?
A great and brutal game, I was a bit disappointed I didn't catch this on KS.
Agree with you CoD! Solo is the best way to play this one.
Me too, thinking of buying this one retail. I put this up there with Black Orchestra, another game I would like to pick up.
That’s one I’ve wanted to try sometime soon!
Absolutely love this game. Really good representation of the video game!
It’s pretty spot on. Very impressive and hard to do!
Hey man this game looks and has the feel of a really cool game.
I like this for its emmersion into a war torn city scenario. Wow
Great review Adam !
It’s one that’s immersion, narrative and mechanics are really well intertwined. Thanks for watching :)
Really really great game where everything can go south REALLY fast.
Sure can! :O
looks well worth a pick up
It’s an experience like no other!

Valid point! Death throws a wrench into the story progression for sure. It’s not a fit for all. Have a good one and see you around :)
