I have been teasing this series for a very long time...and that's because it took a VERY LONG TIME to make...a twenty episode retrospective on every Sega developed arcade racing game in 3D! Because whether its retro gaming or modern pc gaming...Sega is the KING of the arcade racing genre! So buckle up and get ready for a retrogaming ride!
THE RULES FOR INCLUSION: 1) It must have had an arcade release (So no Sega GT) 2) It must be in 3D (Bye Bye Outrunners, etc etc) and 3) you MUST be racing against an opponent and not just a timer (sorry Crazy Taxi, Wild Riders)
Patreon Thanks: Seth Peterson, John Thompson, Paul Daniel, Porch, Jon Anderson, RayceARoni, Kurangui, Jason Hixon, Alex Tessler, Jonathan Leung, Martin Donlon, Tom Van Deusen, Barabob, Steve Randall, Ahab, K-2, Renaissance 2K, Ivar Wennerholm, Adrien Sebbane,

Up next: OutRun 2 SP! I mean it when I say it...OutRun 2 SP is IN MY OPINION the best racing video game ever made...arcade or home console! It's just straight up retro gaming perfection in every way possible; as the sequel to OutRun and Outrunners from Sega...as a stand alone arcade game...or as the Xbox version! I am playing OutRun 2 SP or OutRun 2: Special Tours...as there are variant versions! And of course because I can I am playing the arcade version (Sega Lindberg) as it also runs on Teknoparrot and is better than the Xbox version or OutRun 2006 on the PS2!
Note : the SDX version is on Lindberg hardware vs the OG SP which runs on Chihiro. A small difference but a difference and that’s what we are playing today.
But OutRun 2 is Sega GOLD and it's 100% in the same league as Daytona USA, Scud Race or Sega Rally!
Questions? Comments? Just leave them below and I will do my best to answer each and every one of them!

100% agree that this is the best arcade racer ever, I absolutely love it. My man, I really hope you read this, because I can see why you're struggling with the time limit so much - you're intiating a drifting on pretty much every corner and consequently losing so much speed it's having a cumulative effect on your overall time. You generally only need to drift on the corners that have the big arrows signposting them. If there's no arrow you can usually plow through those corners full speed, just ease off the gas in very short bursts if your angle around the corner starts getting too wide. You'll find the game's actually pretty generous with its time limit this way. If you want to get into more advanced drifting techniques look into how to do gear drifting. If you check out the 15 stage Outrun 2 SPDX videos in my arcade racer playlist, you can see me doing them.
I just love to drift too much 😂 but yes I could improve those lines
I don't even need to watch this to agree.
haha yes I dont think I will make many people mad calling this the best
Same with me as well 😃😃😃😃👍
It’s the easiest of stances to take
@@VideoGameEsoterica I would say that the timer is more strict on the original outrun 2 and this the Lindbergh version, you can technically play with 8 people on this Lindbergh version the other person next to you can drive for you and if you bump or crash or just after a minute I think the other person takes over etc, it has big screens 62 ich I think and really attractive arcade cabinets it has cameras and the seat moves as well it's really cool 🙂👍 oh and you have a modded version because that's the initial arcade stage soundtrack not the outrun soundtrack 👍
It’s so sad those cabinets are so rare now
Outrun 2/SP is the accumulation of years of arcade design. It's really difficult to describe in words, but when you play, you just know and feel it. It also really shows off what the Chiriro/Xbox can do graphically. It's just stunning to look at.
Yes this was Sega taking everything they had learned up to this point and putting the best parts of all their arcade racing games into one title
I own so many versions of this masterpiece. I would buy this game everyday if need be! Maybe one day, I will have the arcade sit down linked for 2!
That’s the dream
I have a cool story with this game. Years ago, my roommate showed his PS2 games and OutRun 2 was there. He didn't like the game because he bought thinking it was a traditional racing game (since the Ferrari trademark). Then, I explained it was a different type of racing game and the beauty of it. He changed his mind. Downhill Domination was another case of a misunderstood game (which I think you, VGE, would love to play too).
It’s always fun to help people realize what they are missing. Hence my channel!
Cool story bro
would love another video on this... version and port comparisons are always fun
I mean this is SP....OG OutRun 2 does exist so....
Last week I installed the Ps3 version of this after over a decade. Still great but the one thing I could immediately see off the bat is the Ps3 textures are compressed a lot!
Yes that happens Vs PC version sadly
When you are in the transitional areas between stages, the creatures/objects that fly through the sky represent your rating for the previous stage. So for the first stage you got a dragon from Panzer Dragoon, that represents a perfect run. If you get two perfect stages in a row, you'll see Orta riding a dragon (from Panzer Dragoon Orta). If you get three perfect in a row... I don't know because I've never gotten three in a row! 😅 I don't remember them all, but it's something like geese = lowest rating, then flamingoes is better than that, then the three hawks is better still. There are other ones, like hot air balloons, and a jet airliner, but it's been quite a while so I can't remember if those were for repeating the same rank across two stages, or if they were in one of the other OutRun 2 games.
I set up the PC version of OutRun 2 on my Steam Deck, but unfortunately something is not right about the controls... I can't control it with precision. I do still have my OG Xbox OutRun 2 games and can still play well on those, so I know it's not just me getting too old!
Learned something I never knew! I love that
There are also two space ships shooting at the track. I got those when driving Right courses all the way to the finish line with OutRun2 on the arcade. Wondering if it does the same on OG Xbox (have to fix the two I have).
The balloons, jets, and ufos are only in the other modes. In the arcade version, the Pegasus signifies the 2nd perfect stage.
@@HunterTinsley awesome! I only saw it on the arcade, so looking fwd to play it again on the xbox og
I absolutely love this game. There was so much extra content on the Outrun 2006 home versions on PS2/Xbox/PSP which gave it so much replayability.
OutRun Online Arcade on the PS3/Xbox 360 was another good way to play this in HD and still looks very impressive but lacks the extra modes of Outrun 2006.
I wish Sega would make Outrun 3 with a full Ferrari license for PS5/Xbox which would rock. The same applies to Namco for a next gen Ridge Racer arcade racer on the PS5/Xbox..
Great video - It would be awesome to see the original vanilla Outrun 2 version as well that you mentioned in a future video.
Sega NEEDS to make OutRun 3. We crave it lol
Yes! Came here to say this. Outrun online arcade on the PS3 still gets regular play in my house. I believe it’s ‘only’ 720P but it still looks AND plays great…
720p still looks good to me
@@VideoGameEsoterica Or make outrunners 2 without a license.
@@rocraider163 Same here, together with Daytona USA the main reason to have the PS3 still hooked up. You probably know this but just mentioning that putting the PS3 to deliberately output 720p will remove any of these one-off slowdowns in Outrun online arcade on the PS3.
I'm a week late watching this as I have been mourning the loss of my fellow pet dachshund friend who went home to be with his Lord on 4/11/23. But now he is in a better place, riding in one of the ferraris in OR2! ;)
Growing up as a 2000s kid in the final years of arcades, this game was just about everywhere in my hometown of Spartanburg SC. When I first tried the game out I was really bad at drifting. The one in my local Pizza Inn was later replaced with Harley-Davidson & L.A.Riders, which I think is an equally good replacement... except for them little kids jerking on the handlebars and breaking the shifter. grrhhh...
I have a Chihiro motherboard of the game in CF Card format, but unfortunately the little 12v fan is all free as can be and they are known to fail and eventually kill the board, plus all those destructive supercaps. That's going out for repairs soon.
The other awesome thing about this game is that it is directly swap from Naomi, so if you have a Jambo Safari cabinet it is plug and play! Even better? I think the deluxe Jambo has the same force feedback motor as this game. Somebody should test it out! I prefer Jambo to Crazy Taxi also. :)
Oh no. I’m genuinely sorry to hear that. We lost our dog in 2021 and it’s never easy.
I hope the little guy is drifting the corners now on his way to kibble mountain!
Outrun 2 is my favourite arcade game of all time.
I suck at it and I couldn’t care less. So enjoyable.
thats how you know you REALLY like something
I was lucky enough to get to go to Tokyo for Spring break and got to play this arcade Cabinet in the Taito Hey! Arcade in Akihabara, Tokyo. They have a whole retro floor with a lot of the sega racing games I’ve learned about through your channel (Daytona 2, Sega rally, Wild riders, scud racer, etc) they also had lots of light gun cabinets and a typing of the dead which was super fun. Hope I get to go back one day!
Glad you found the retro floor! I miss seeing these cabs in the US
this is the best one, still play it on my PS2 and PSP and PS3
It holds up super well that’s for sure
I like Outrun 2 VGE. I never played the game before, but enjoyed seeing videos of it. The graphics, the sound, and everything else look amazing towards it bro. Nice job as always. 8^)
Anthony...
Never played? You need to rectify that!
I played so much OutRun 2 online on PS3 that I miss the OutRun2, especially the Egypt track
Just FYI if you need the version of SP SDX without the Initial D music it's on Archive. You can also import your own music with the ADX converter.
It's definitely right up there at the top of Sega's GOAT Arcade racers. The PC version is actually pretty nice and there's some good-ass mods for it that just turn it into something close to the arcade experience.
Definitely need a wheel for this one too. It feels just right.
I also feel lucky that me and my wife found a version of the OG Outrun 2 in an arcade that, while slightly busted (the steering felt loose and the leather was beat up), was still playable enough that we were just gliding through the stages still.
That sensation of just drifting the corners and speeding through the scenery is unmatched.
The PSP version is also really good considering it's a 2006 handheld port. It's worth checking out. (although you have to manually set the CPU to 333 MHz to prevent slowdowns, since it's an early game so it's set to PSP 1000 stock speed)
I had the PSP version back in the day. I remember it being a good time
Outrun Online Arcade is a game I come back to time and time again, simply because it really is just that fun. Although I never played SP, the mechanics are all there and as you said, the drifting is sublime. Nothing beats playing this game with the updated Magical Sound Shower blasting out the speakers, especially when those steel drums kick in for that Caribbean calypso feel. Gorgeous visuals and a locked stable framerate complete the experience. The PSP version C2C is also a fantastic game.
That’s how you know a game is good. You keep coming back time after time
I gotta make the intro sound you used for this video my ringtone, every time I get a txt “do do do do do do yeahhhhhhhh”
I 100% advocate for that idea
Oh, mate - Outrun 2 SP is amaaaazing! I didn't even know I'd been living under a rock all these years, but I've never experienced it prior to yesterday. I've just been obsessively playing it since. Runs beautifully, visuals hold up great. Been playing it on an XBox Series controller, but going to hook up my wheel/pedals today and give it a go. It is so completely polished in every way - I'm truly loving it. Thinking about maybe trying it in a VR big screen to really get that full on arcade deep-dive experience.
Well welcome to SP! Its just more of an amazing thing!
Great game. I often have game nights and this is always set up on og xbox LAN. F355 still my favourite Sega racer.
I just do NOT click with F355
OutRun 2 SP is definitely the best arcade racing game Sega made for a casual play. It has everything, the speed, the handling, the typical arcade sceneries with bright colors and a blue blue sky, the punchy and iconic musics. It's a summary of every typical aspects of a good arcade racer. It's transcending the formula of Daytona, Scud Race and the first OutRun.
But many of the Initial D games are better games overall, more content, more depth, more replayability.
And I think Scud Race drift mecanics is even more satisfying, because it's way harder to master and requires more work on the wheel, and so is way more satisfying when you manage to do it. In Scud Race, you feel like being on the edge, you've to be precise, in control, while drifts are a lot more assisted, scripted, in OutRun 2. They still feel great, but nothing can beat the feeling of being on the edge.
For sure Initial D is way more fully featured and has a lot of longevity built into it
When the revs are maxed your turning is full, down gear will get you a drft without brakeing. you can dubble tap down gear to get it eveytime.
Noted :)
Bonus Episode, Please. Also, how did you get the correct speed on TeknoParrot? Unless you're playing the actual board with a super gun?
There is a fix you need to install. Well by install you overwrite I think two files?
I'm a huge fan of Outrun, FYI Outrun 2006 (Outrun 2 and SP) was made for PC and it supports 1080P widescreen, anti aliasing, and supports the Xbox controller. That's the one the one to play! It's a crazy visual upgrade from the console ports and is absolutely beautiful it almost looks like a different game. Sega Rally Revo is the other one that looks insane on PC.
I may add an episode for Revo
I've never played the arcade versions, but I have Outrun 2 for my XBOX and it's probably my favorite game for the console. It is one of those games I like to pop in when I want to cruise while listening to an awesome soundtrack.
Def try the arcade version. Its just prettier
I am not a racing game guy. But I did play this game many times at the arcade and I really do like it. It's a game catered for a wide audience and it looks and plays beautifully.
Yes it’s inviting of all players, including ones not super into arcade racing. Which is awesome
My all-time favourite game and sound track. FYI your speed is fixed when drifting so unless you are at max speed then often its better not to drift. Some say you only need to drift on corners that have white arrows on read backgrounds.
I just love drifting too much haha
I saw an arcade of this a long time ago and didn't play, that was before I was into outrun or even knew much about it. I've only played this on the PC and it's an awesome game
You missed out. Go find another cab!
Actually been playing both the pc and the psp port like crazy recently so this was good timing lol
I think my favorite thing about the OST is that the unique songs to it function like the original Outrun's fake dynamic soundtrack, where about every minute is when the music transitions in some way that also happens to be about the time you're driving into a new area, along with an ending refrain that starts when you're in the final zone and just about to cross the finish line around 5 and a half minutes in. It really elevates the presentation so much and it's a shame Outrun is the only racing game series I've seen that ever utilizes that kind of thing.
As a side note whenever I stream it while hanging around with friends on Discord or whatever I also love torturing them with Night Flight specifically because it's that exact brand of kinda terrible late 90s-early 00s Sega soundtrack music that's so unashamedly camp and silly it's hard to not like. Also semi-related but as a fun fact the lady who sings in Life Was A Bore is Donna Burke, who people might also recognize as the original VA for Angela and Claudia from Silent Hill 2 & 3!
The music is def a vibe from when the game was made and while it holds up it’s also unintentionally a bit funny
Played this recently in an arcade in Seville where you have just to pay an entry fee, and this is the greatest game ever, I even finished it after 3 tries.
The trick to master this game is to downshift entering on curve then upshift to not lose any power and powerslide better than the AT brake drifting mechanic where you lose speed and have to oversteer after the drift.
They had outrunners too and that game was awesome.
I love the "pay to come in, games are freeplay" model
Outrun 2 original, passing breeze set. Top tier stuff.
It really is one hell of a soundtrack and game
I just played it today for the first time and it was Amazing 🤩
Welcome to the OutRun club!
Man you are so right about the songs mattering to the game. I feel like i can do an all hard course run only if i can pick night flight as my song lol
It really gives you the edge :)
I found an arcade in Orlando with some variation of OutRun 2 with a double cockpit. I spent two one-hour cards on that game alone, but never got to the finish line. It was within sight, but still so far away. I'd still say my favorite arcade racer is Rush 2049SE--It's hard to say it's objectively any better, but I prefer its brand of precision.
Timing in OutRun 2 is tight. 2049 is awesome but I still prefer the OG Rush the Rock myself
I own a 2049se cabinet. It’s my daughter favorite game. It’s cool when people see it and they want to try it out.
2049 is legit but my fav will always be Alcatraz Edition
Just played this yesterday at a local arcade along with Daytona 2. Daytona 2 is amazing but Outrun 2 is the best.
Daytona 2 is no slouch thats for sure!
Great video as always! OutRun is such an amazing series, I wish Sega would try and get the Ferrari license back for just one more run, but sadly with the competition between Forza and GT that will probably never happen :<
I actually would love another video on Outrun 2 from you, but even more than that I'd like a video about the different versions (specifically Coast 2 Coast and Online Arcade). I haven't seen a lot of videos going into the differences and the odd naming conventions have made it so I'm really confused about which one has what in it!
There will be another video 😉
@@VideoGameEsoterica awesome 👌
Should be a fun time for sure
Why do so many Outrun 2SP videos have the music replaced with eurobeat?
The dump was modified by someone
I love playing this game and Initial D.
Classics for sure
I've been trying to get this outrun 2006 SP (I think thats the American version of this?) Consistent on the steam deck and I'll touch 60fps but mainly stuck at 40 and stuttering. Might try switching versions if I can't figure it out. Also could I recommend this Japanese racer called critical velocity. Think you might like it.
Velocity eh? There’s one I haven’t heard of
This is peak arcade racing !
It genuinely is
the scud race art is in there too? or exclu xbo?
Xbox
The drifting mechanic is so good, have this on ps3, great to just jump on and play. Hard agree
Hard agree. Love that term
I would love to see a setup video of the hardware. 😊
Setup vids are on my list. For Teknoparrot. Wheels for mister. Supermodel, etc etc. probably not till fall though
I've only ever played the PS2 version, but even that is still a great time. Love OutRun 2!
My personal favorite arcade racing game will always be Daytona USA. There just something about that game's look and handling that feels perfect to me.
Gotta play the arcade version. It’s everything except better :)
Thats an amazing game! I use to play it on my PS2 and it is so cool every time i do it
Try the arcade version if you can
@@VideoGameEsoterica I will look for it. It is better, right?
Prettier for sure
@@VideoGameEsoterica Im gona play it 👍
Awesome
No argument here bro. I rally need to do so. 8^)
I have a custom racing cab at home with shifter and all, and this game rocks, I also play sonic racing and it uses the same drifting mechanics just with a different button, also by sega ofc. On a 55" screen, can't be beat!
When I play these games not for capture I have a similar setup for my living room. 65” 4K QLED. I’d use it for capture but it’s too far from my studio and I can’t move the signal that far without a repeater. Which I don’t feel like dealing with
nice, ya the cab is 4k, man it was such a great investment
Always worth the money :)
Have you tried getting this running on a hard modded xbox with the extra 64MB of RAM, out of curiosity? I've got the chips but I've not really had a reason to do it. This might be it.
It does not work currently from what I know
I would love to see a video out of the original verson. I love this game!
I am sure OG OutRun 2 will appear eventually
Such an amazing game. The OG Xbox port is absolutely nuts. How they managed that on a machine with 64MB of RAM I'll never know. Truly black magic.
That was the nice thing about Chihiro. It was just extra ram. So to get it to Xbox just meant optimize the hell out of it
Damn. This looks a lot better than I thought it would. I do love drifting 🤔.
Who doesn’t love drifting. If only driving like this was allowed in real life
@@VideoGameEsoterica It is as long as you don't get caught 👍
That’s the tricky part 😂
@@VideoGameEsoterica well, where I live we have snow and a lot of dirt roads if you drive far enough and you better believe I pretend I'm in Sega Rally when I have the opportunity HAHAHA
Not something you can do in Chicago 🤣
Really hope Sega renew the Ferrari license and rerelease this game. This is such a fun stress relief game
You never know. Maybe one day
If they ever made an OutRun 3, I think it would be hard to follow up on this masterpiece.
It would be a tough task for sure
When I first tried this game in an an arcade(Woody Woodchuck) it was so fun that I always did Heart Attack Mode since I love collecting the hearts ❤️ and mostly I choose the 360 Spider model as it looks so sick and cool 😎
Heart attack mode can be a ton of fun for sure. Def gives the game a bit more longevity
You mentioned the Xbox and PS2 versions, but what’s your opinion of Outrun Online Arcade? Would like to know how it compares to the arcade version and what the differences are.
Id need to play it more
Favorite arcade racer?
That’d be Scud Race, good sir.
Just sat down with it on Supermodel and nothing has the sense of speed and the delicate balance of skill/accessibility as that game.
And those track designs are hilariously bonkers.
For lack of better descriptions, the gameplay in Outrun 2 kinda starts to feel very “same-y” after so long.
Still a fantastic game, though, but doesn’t get the adrenaline pumping like SCUD Race.
Scud Race is probably my third favorite. Or second favorite. It flips back and forth with Daytona
hell yeah, my favorite arcade racing game hands down for free. I only have the xbox 360 digital version which isn't even for sale anymore lmao.
so odd they delisted it
I love outrun 2006 and sp ❤
2006 will def make an appearance later
What’s the best way to emulate this on PC? What emulator?
Teknoparrot
What's with the AMD billboards.
Is that a developer gag or was the advertising contract already signed.
Xbox Original was supposed to be AMD silicon but just days before the hardware reveal switched to Intel.
a very good question that I do not know the answer to
These outrun games need a wiki to explain the variants. Outrun 2 SP SDX is very similar and is indeed no.1 15/10 played in the twin cab. Teknoparrot even handles the link play. It's perfect.
Yes the variants can def get confusing
i have outrun 2006: coast 2 coast on steam and it's truly one of the beast games of all time. but i have to wonder if you've played the Initial D Arcade Stage series of games because there's a Very short list of games that i like as much as this, and it's like: initial D arcade stage, R4 ridge racer type 4, and like. maybe racing lagoon. all those games have a somewhat different focus but they're all masterclass entries in their own rights
I’ve played all the Initial D. They are legit. But for pure arcade racing I still vote OutRun 2
this really is the best sega arcade racer next to daytona 1 and 2 for me
100%
@@VideoGameEsoterica you also play alot of segas racers as well ?
Did you see this is part of like a 30 episode retrospective? Lol yeah I like my Sega racing games
Wait, isn't this the updated HD game that runs on Lindbergh? Chihiro has the previous games AFAIK and it's lower resolution.
Yes. Did I say Chihiro? Its Lindberg. Maybe I muddled that myself
I agree, this is an awesome game.
I haven’t had anyone disagree yet :)
Love all the OutRun games but for me the best one is OutRun2 for Xbox because it includes the original 1986 arcade game as well.
There really isn’t a bad OutRun game
Same as R-Tuned Ultimate Street Racing!
Best of the best 🎉
100%
outrun2, scudrace, daytonausa and segarally(saturn) are by far my favourites.
All could have arguments made as "the best"
Wish this game is re released for consoles and PC... With or without the Ferrari license.. same thing for Sega Rally, Daytona USA and dynamite deka series
We all do. Sega just doesn’t want us to be happy lol
OutRun 2006 Coast to Coast for PC is basically this.
Looks like outrun 2006? Love this game
It’s one of the best ever
I've no idea if the arcade versions support it, but I'm fairly sure the Xbox/PS2 versions allowed for system linking, meaning providing you have the space and the kit you could be running an awesome multiplayer version of this.
the arcade version def supports linking. Four cabs only I believe (googles it)....yeah seems to be 4
One of the most fun and satisfying games to play especially on the deluxe arcade cab (what a beast!!)
That’s not even getting into the amazing track designs, sound effects, music and beautiful graphics.
As others have said the culmination of years of testing and development.
I always think of how much I hate the driving mechanics in scud race whenever I play OR2SP!😅
Outrunners is the real spiritual successor to the original and I still miss my outrunners upright!!
Fond memories of when we got OR2 on Xbox, there was so much sega love on the forums at that point!! Good times!!😍
OutRunners is a ton of fun too. Always love playing it. Might show up on the channel this fall ;)
Isn't it weird that the game has AMD adverts at the side of the track? Chihiro is Intel/Nvidia based, isn't it?
It is odd. Nobody is quite sure why
This is a great car game, but overall for arcade racers I’ve always been partial to Hydro Thunder. Indy 500 and Le Mans 24 are both amazing as well, they’re not as refined as Daytona USA 2 but it’s great getting to race on real tracks since I’m a fan of both races.
People really love Hydro Thunder. I am iffy on it personally
Outrun 2 / 2006 are my favorite on the og xbox / ps2. Sumo digital did a fantastic job with this IP. It's such a shame we may nave get a proper outrun 3 anytime soon.
Outrun 3 would be the dream
I never played this game. I wish I could going by the high praise you gave it (and I've been into the Arcade Racing mood). As for my favorite Arcade Racer, it's probably Burnout 2. Burnout 2 is just so fun to play. It's pure arcade racing at it's finest, and the track design is the best in the entire series. I also like the boost chaining system in this game which sadly was replaced by a regular boost system in the later games. It encourages the player to drive dangerously (Near missing traffic, driving in oncoming traffic, drifting) to fill the boost meter, and holding it down while driving dangerously pretty much gives you an infinite boost the entire race. The caveat being that it increases the risk of crashing.
Burnout is a ton of fun. You should check out Thrill Drive. It’s the game that inspired Burnout
There are versions for the OG XBOX, PS2, PSP, and PC. So it is easy to find a way to play it. Totally recommended.
Yes the nice thing is it’s everywhere
Definitely the best SEGA racer and my favorite SEGA racer, SEGA Rally not far behind! I hope one day SEGA gets the Ferrari license and make port for the game or maybe makes a 3rd game but I doubt it will ever happen!
I doubt it too which is just sad
I think OutRun 2 SP SDX is Lindbergh and not Chihiro (Edit: OK, you put it on the commentary). Anyway, I love this game.
I may have said Chihiro once
Absolute god like game
It truly is
i hated this for the longest time... it was only when i realized what it was trying to achieve, and when i figured out the insane physics that i was able to enjoy and eventually love this :)
Hated it? Wow. No I get it. Sometimes games take a while to click with you
Why no mention of OutRun 2006 Coast to Coast for the PC?
Just didn’t make it in
Man they don't make em like this any more 😢
This is very true
Excelente juego.
Thanks
I honestly agree
Everyone has so far :)
I built two rigs to play head to head arcade racers, I figured we'd mostly play Initial D Stage 8 but everyone is hooked on Outrun 2 now.
Absolutely a 15/10, and until we solve the Hydro Thunder issues I think this one will remain king in my house.
Initial D is NO slouch. That will be showing up soon
@@VideoGameEsoterica Maaaaaaan, wicked! I had a feeling we'd get it soon considering it's in the intro.
Looking to jam all of the stages into a video or are we looking at 9 potential entries? 😍
Hahaha oh no. One entry, one game
@@VideoGameEsoterica My man! Looking forward to it 🤙
👍
It is hard to beat for sure. Ig Sega had any dense they would take the game and all it's variations and make a new edition with everything that was available, and then, using the same graphics and mechanics to create a dozen additional tracks (and new cars). I am sure that it would sell very well, especially on platforms like Steam.
Probably lost the license to the cars though. That’s usually the case
I see the full version of the game on chihiro unfortunately doesn't run on a modded original xbox with the 128mb memory mod. Looks like it emulates well though!
Yes I don’t think that’s one that will boot still
@@VideoGameEsoterica I see there's a beta version that boots but the full version requires some hardware io to talk to that it doesn't see.
I’d have to look into it more but IO is a usual culprit
The PC version has been fixed, and you can play @ 4K with anti-aliasing and max anisotropic filtering. Definitively the best version.
👍
my pc version was unable to capture my single game outrun highscore and timing at the rankings. anyone can help? thanks
Ooh not sure on that one
@@VideoGameEsoterica thanks for replying :) anyway i got the game wrong. my is coast 2 coast that are unable to capture my single player ranking. strangely it will capture my top score for arcade mode only haha.
Also odd lol
Amazing game, if you update your Teknoparrot it should fix the sunlight glitch. On the downside the videos when you finish the game don't play any more. I'm sure that will get fixed in time though.
Yes it’s still a WIP it seems
What about the one on ps3 ? Does it compare to this ?
This is still IMO the de facto best version
It's difficult to put up an argument. I did try momentarily. This one is really that great. I have the old Xbox Outrun 2 (not the coast to coast one, I like the visuals better on the original) and I play it at least every month or 2. Racing for your best time becomes a passion lol.
I have the Xbox version too but for my money SDX on Lindberg is the prettiest release
Sadly the reason why the Xbox version of outrun 2006 does not look good as the original is that it is a port of the PS2 version not made from the ground up like the original. Also played both extensively and the Xbox 2006 does not run in Progressive but interlace and the PS2 runs in progressive. Inadvertently methinks this causes some frame rate dips on the PS2 as it claims to be locked at 60fps but I have seen it drop during power drifts.
The Xbox on the other hand is rock solid 60fps but in interlace and plays pretty great.
There are so many version of this one game keeping all the changes straight is quite the task
Yeah, I agree 110% on this being the best racing game, as I've played this more than any other racing games, maybe even combined. The OG Outrun was amazing for the time, as the graphics and music just couldn't be beat, but that game was hard as hell. Every time I put this game on, it feels like the first time, and it never gets old. I play the PSP version on my Vita for the better analog stick control, and it looks amazing and plays just as well. I'm not really into sim racers like Gran Turismo, but have always preferred the more fast pace and quick gameplay of arcade racers. I've played tons of other arcade type racers, and none come close to this game, for me, it is perfection(I don't say that lightly).
It never gets old. That’s the best part. You don’t play it for a month and come back…fresh as ever
hell yeah its the best
its a really easy stance to take in a video!
My favourite arcade racer. The only racer I find more fun is probably Burnout.
Burnout is fun but I am spoiled by Thrill Drive
I love the game, although Outrunners remain my top choice. Outrun 2 and Outrun 2 SP are all about powersliding, and that made them less challenging for me. When you're using manual transmission, you don't even need a brake. Also, I would love if you expanded about why is this particular version the best? PC port was excellent, and I guess that home versions in general have more content.
It’s so hard to declare a best version. Each one has something unique. For the best visuals SP SDX on Lindberg though IMO
Is the drifting in manual automatic or so you need to do the good ol daytona and downshift so the car loses grip?
You can drift w/o
Make fun of me anyways hehe I have a 3 way tie between Daytona, Super GT and Outrunners. (ARCADE) for home, Virtua Racing, Outrunners Daytona/SEGA Rally.
I haven't played this game yet.
I look forward to your videos my man. Coffee, VGE then Steam Deck time. Hehe
OutRunners is an absolute ton of fun no questions
You should really try Rallisport Challenge.
At some point I will :)
This or Scud Race. Porbly best bet is the ps3 release on the emu and crank the resolution up. Doubt it's a very demanding game. I dunno if Teknoparrot can do high res on this.
I love Scud Race but there is just more of OutRun 2 to love
Definitely a 15/10... -15/10 for not using manual... Cmoooonn! 🙂
Lol it’s a pain on captures. One hand is free to mouse around monitoring bitrates / checking things
