My dad was one of the injured passengers. I grew up with the story of what happened but only today when seeing this footage for the first time it has had a real impact on me. my dad is still alive today and is nearly 70 but has been disabled ever since.
My brother and I lived in Fairview Road at the time and our barber (who operated from his greenhouse!) was on that train and survived. He lived near the Clay Hill Road shops by the Timberlog Lane junction.
This is Mrs A , and I lived in Luncies road ( off of Sandon ) and we actually heard the crash while sitting in our garden with visiting relatives , I was only 6 at the time , a few years later when I had my own dog ( when I was around 10/11 ) I used to walk him down Sandon rd etc and he would get to the bridge and stop stock still with all his hackles standing right up and refuse to move , and he never ever walked under that bridge 😳
This is right where I live now and have known about the accident for many years. I think there should be a memorial to the Injured and Dead in what is now Sandon Road, Basildon, but was then called Station Road.

Thank you for posting this, it is a piece of history that I had heard about, but first time I have seen any images of it.

You mean where the huge field is? And the train track is fenced in. The C2C line??
