I remember this when it came out back in the early 80's. I had only begun playing bass around that time and was still plodding. Heard this song in the shop this morning and was blown away by the bass part. Those two runs at 1:49 to 1:53 are sweet. Nicely done, Greg.
As a guitar player, who is working on learning the bass , this is huge! I just heard this song for the first time last night, and found your video while doing some research on it. Thank you for your time, and attention to detail, with this, and all the best in the future!
Thanks for the hard work on this one. Added to my practice list but the high speed Brass sections are definitely God level for me right now :D so many hours of practice ahead!
Greg Fairweather LOL..Cant believe you missed out on this piece when it was released back in '81. The album only won something like 7 grammys but I forget how old I am. You did a wonderful job sir. I thank you again.
I would to see a cover of Space Cowboy by Jamiroquai - the original album version is a masterpiece, in my humble opinion! Anyway, thanks for your channel dude, it's a great one I Have just stumbled upon it since I picked up my bass again after a few years hiatus!
hey Meh! Thanks for the request and comment...and glad to hear you're playing again :) That would be a great tune to learn. I'm adding it to the list...thanks! (It may take a few weeks...the list is getting long ;)
hey Meh. I just remembered you wanted the original album version as I was uploading this. I hope this will one will still work for you? Sorry 'bout that ;) ruclips.net/video/G4KrIzlOh5c/видео.html
Hi! this is second time mail for you. Thanks for your good teaching, always! And, please teach me "Byblos by Cihcago"s bass tab! I'm japanese, and my speaking english is very very little, sorry. I'm looking foreward to your good answer with bass❣️
Brilliant. As much as I love thunderthumbs I prefer the bass performance on the Chaz Jankel original, I've a funny feeling it's Norman Watt-Roy of the blockheads on bass duties
I'd never heard the Chaz version. I just listened. I found the bass a little under in the mix. Could be my setup? At any rate, the feels sound pretty similar.
Johnson recorded this bassline with a 70s jazz bass. His bass tone always was vinculated to the stingray, but he used Precision Bass, Jazz Bass, Stingray, Sabre, amd Yamaha basses. Nice cover and transcription!!

Hi Lalo, I'm sorry I don't know this song and I don't have any piano transcriptions. Good luck and thanks!
Mistake at 0:51: It's C flat, not C sharp (harder to play then...)
hmmm...not sure I agree with you?
Wow!!! amazing bass cover!!!

@@BassCovers there's not much in it, a bit more angular and britfunk
Great lesson, managed to break the back of the tune in a few hours
Anything by johnson needs his tone - get out the Stingray :)
ya...you're probably right ;) I'm not sure why I didn't use it for this video?...oooops :)

Very far from the source, not accurate at all, dry. It has nothing to do with what Louis Johnson did. BAD
