Smartest psychologist to have ever lived. Some of his works from the 50’s/60’s are ahead of it’s time even NOW.

I knew Herbert Feigl. I would read to him (when l was a 18 and working) at his nursing home as a janitor. He was my friend. I still think of him often. Thank you for sharing.

It's sort of prophetic and sad when he talks about the improbability of him living another 20 years (31:28), given that he died only 14 years later.

This year we planted wheat even on barren fields. We have 2 barren fields in total. Chardouchic and Hallot. They are far from each other. Chardouchic has several summer pears and one Bartlett pear. There are no other vegetables and fruits. Summer pear is normal, but Bartlett is deadly flavor. Anyway, it's not pear season yet. I came to Chardouchic today to observe if the wheat was damaged. Our field neighbor and distant relative, Mr. Beardless's father, is also here. Theirs is a vineyard. There are also 2 almond trees in the vineyard. These almond trees are very precious in their eyes. Mr. Beardless's father must have come to observe the almonds. As a family, we don't even consider of him as a distant relative, we are completely distant. Mr. Beardless's closeness stems from the fact that we meet a lot and that he is a colorful and humorous person. I had learned earlier that Mr. Beardless, with whom we were in frequent contact and whom we knew well, was a distant relative. We know his father as Beardless's father. This relative came for the almonds, but also took care of the vineyard. We agreed to return to the village together. We set off in the afternoon. We are walking slowly along the footpath. Our route will continue from the western and southern ridges of the mountain. We are now on the north ridge. The sun is approaching the last visible high hill in front of us. I'm on the right, on the west side. Beardless's father silently looked at the sun to determine the time. When he saw the distant mountains in front of him from a wide angle, the structure of the world must have come to mind, so he began to talk seriously. Here's my nephew, this world has no end, he said. I gave him a look. There used to be a man who set out saying I'm going to find the end of the world, he continued. The man has reached a village after a long journey, he said. That village is near the end of the world, and I had the impression that the inhabitants of that village understood better than the end of the world. He probably thinks so too. In fact, I think, according to both of us, the hero of the event thought so. We think he's near the end of the world because he's gone too far. The villagers said welcome to the man. They asked why you came, where are you going. I decided to find the end of this world, so I came, he said. They said, this world has no end, don't get tired for nothing, you give up on this. Ok, said our traveler. He understood the situation. He accepted what they said. So, why are your graves in front of your house, he asked. They said, we build the graves in front of our house so that we always remember death.
Beardless's father emphasized both the infinity of the world and the mortal world. He killed two birds with one story. I have never interfered with him. I didn't ask a curious question. Although I heard about the roundness of the world at school, I do not have the awareness of how roundness creates infinity. That's why I didn't try to make connections between what he said and the roundness of the earth. Moreover, for me, trust in the person speaking is essential. I also care about harmony. My consciousness was not enough to conclude that the world is not infinite, but a round that has been discovered from all sides. I don't know if it was discovered. Nor do I know if it is too big to be discovered. So far, I have not come across enough data to reach the conclusion that the world is not too infinite to know. A single knowledge of roundness was not enough for this consciousness and even this intuition to occur. As you know, we call the emotion of consciousness before consciousness intuition. Even if I had the psychology that occurred with sufficient data for the shape of the world, my attitude towards Beardless's father would not have been different. In order for me to display a different attitude, various examples of dialogue had to be ready in my memory. Moreover, these examples had to be in the form of consciousness, not psychology. How to enter the subject, what will be the reaction of the other person after entering it... How will the dialogue continue in the next stage!.. There are no consequences that have occurred in my self regarding these. When I say conclusion, I mean that there are not enough consciousnesses or intuitions to create consciousness in terms of basis and method. Unfortunately, the only data about the nature of matter does not create intuition. At least 2 more data in the form of sensation or observation are required. The fact that we live in the world is a data in the nature of the world itself, which it offers us about its roundness. It is evening, the sun rises again in the morning, the seasons repeat, etc. If we know mathematics, mathematics is the second data we have for the roundness of the world. If we know physics, a third data. If we are aware of measurement techniques, it means we have the fourth data. If intelligent people who are inclined to geography have created an intuition by obtaining a few data in the periods when the world was not known to be round, it means that they have a chance to say that the world is round. If we live in a time when the roundness of the world is unknown and we cannot consciously say it is round, if we do not have knowledge of mathematics and physics, if we live only with the data presented by the nature of the world itself, this means that the roundness of the world continues as a meaning for us. Of course, if we are intelligence enough. If there is no intelligence to grasp the roundness, there is no a meaning.
We reached the vehicle road from the footpath. After going a little further, we came to the narrow part of the valley. I wondered if he would tell a goat story on top of this story. Of course, he didn't. Maybe he doesn't know. He has not experienced it himself or heard of it from anyone who has. The goat story is my mother's story. My mother and her mother were returning from the field at night when they heard the sound of a goat coming from the opposite direction. Even my grandmother, who we thought was fearless, said, I guess we won't be able to pass through here. They turned back and walked towards the hill. There is a watchman house there. There is also a footpath leading to the village before reaching the hill. They didn't trust him because the watchman was a little crazy. They did not approach the watchman and explain why they were afraid. They entered the village by continuing on the footpath. Although this footpath was parallel to the path where the sound was heard, perhaps the sound of goat did not come again because the distance increased. If Beardless's father had told this devil (goat) story, I would have thought that I had met with consciousness because I had caught a mystery. I was actually going to make myself think so. Since my belief in lies would get stronger, I would make myself think I knew what the devil was. When we got a little further, we reached a fountain and drank water. Then we reached the cemetery at the entrance of the village. Beardless's father had told about the infinity of the world to catch the joy of life. When I listened, I had to catch the joy of life that he caught. I caught it, but not for the infinity of the world. I caught it in adapting to my surroundings and gaining seriousness. As we approach the village, we will pass by the cemetery. I wonder if he will recite prayers in the cemetery. If he doesn't recite it, I will do my duty by reciting from inside me without changing my position. I must not pass without recite praying. Otherwise, a meaning from my self will be lost. But we stopped, turned towards the grave, recited the prayers from inside us.
