I love how the three of them represent the hierarchy of those times: Canute (King); Thorfinn (Viking) & Einar (regular people/victims), gathered to forge peace with words (exchanging perspectives) and trying to understand one another at least Thorfinn & Canute... who tries to end this argument like he has ended every other problem, by flexing his power for a "peaceful conclusion".
What's great is that all three of them essentially seek the same, just by different means... Einar wants a peaceful life, Thorfinn wants to create a peaceful place so he can atone for his sins, and Canute wants to conquer the North Sea to create a peaceful paradise where vikings no longer have to do what they do, and he even got rid of his own brother to further decrease the prospects of future power struggles. They all want violence to no longer be the standard, but the difference in how they approach this is so wild that it leads to more confrontation... It's the poetry of human nature.
It's even greater when you consider that nothing of what's shown here is inaccurate to historical facts due to how well the author sticked to the facts and build his own narrative upon them.
What’s even more peak is that this chapter is called Muteki 無敵 (invincible) in the manga, the kanji literally means no enemy (in the sense of unmatched). By not having enemies Thorfinn is now invincible.
Olmar standing up to Thorgil and deciding it’s better to surrender the land and live than to die in a pointless battle is such a great representation on what a true warrior is. Unlike when he started the fight with Canute’s men he was finally able to put his pride to the side and show true courage, this makes the old masters like about Ketil losing his farm in order for his son to become a man hit so hard
This is my favorite show of all time! Genuinely changed my outlook on life, even more so on a rewatch. Its been great seeing you analyze and breakdown the show/themes so well! I'm glad to see that you've enjoyed the show so much!
I don't think Thorgil cares AT ALL about his brother, never. He just wanted to manipulate him into getting what he wants. All he wanted was to fight, it was not about the land, just about the fight itself.
Yup...And he's willing to drag and feed Ketils farmhands/retainers and slaves to the meat grinder to get the fight that he desires...Sounds so selfish to me if I'm asked.
You've got to remember that their Vikings and the only way for them to get to Valhalla is to die in battle and be chosen as a great fighter by the valkyrie 5:43
I think she understands, it's just that she's taking it lightly or doesn't get that Thorfinn's philosophy can be applied to real life. Like it didn't change her vision of life and I think that's ok, not everybody is gonna adopt the philosophy just because they understand it.

@cristalido3640 well put! I couldn't agree more.
“I have no enemies.”
Peak fiction.

For years the "I haven no enemies" panel stuck with me. This manga is imo one of my favorites of all time
this is when fiction peaked

16:17 Thorfinn calls out AliAnime's hairstyle and how much he hates it
I hope to raise my kids to be like Thorfinn someday...At this point in his life I meant.
I share the same wish. If people raised their children this way, maybe the world would be a better place.
A true warrior doesn't need a sword to fight
The dichotomy between Thorffin and Canute's reality to find the world they want is the peak of this work 👌
Everyone should watch this masterpiece.

Imma be honest that canute speech was confusing asf makes no sense as much as i read the manga…beautiful but it’s literally not making any sense 😂
She did not understand this season at all....................................................
Yep. This reaction was really hard to sit through

@@blakodesu3769 precisely. It can't be an epiphany for everyone, no problem with that
I think people with more life experience resonate with the message of the show more deeply, she's just too young, nothing wrong with that
You would have died by the first punch... girl pls......
