Can't stand all the junk fees that the airlines charge. It's ridiculous. I remember a time when I could fly economy class on the Atlantic run between North America and Europe, get reserved seats together and two checked bags per person. This shit that they do now is exactly that: shit.
Good to see that you had a good experience with BA the 380 is an amazing aircraft and that BA have reintroduced its entire fleet, the downside with flying BA is the seat purchase option obviously if you are prepared to leave until the last 24 there isn't a charge, excellent review .
Just flown on A380 from Heathrow to Miami. Upper deck economy right at the back on 4 middle aisle seats. Had to pay to book the whole row for the family but it was worth it. Comfy seats and entertainment was ok once they sorted it out with 3 complete reboots. Food was decent & overall a good trip.
We flew from Heathrow to San Francisco and 4 of us in our party plus 2 other customers had the rear upper deck cabin to ourselves. The BA staff were amazing and just said make yourselves at home anywhere you want and kept us topped up with drinks and food. Amazing experience as close as first class we would ever get near for our budget. Brilliant experience and would highly recommend upper deck
We could choose within our package holiday price, they were standard seats and when I chose the seats it looked fuller as only a few to choose from, so we were surprised by the fact it was virtually empty.
I’m halfway through my holiday in Florida, flew with BA from Heathrow to Miami. When I booked I overlooked the fact that I had to pay forseat selection rip off and took my chances 24hrs before when checking in. Got 2 aisle seats beside each other on the upper deck. Will do the same for my return flight in a few days BUT I will not be flying BA again transatlantic until they stop this paying extra for seat selection.
The reason we are currently doing a manual safety demo is because there are different Covid requirements depending on the destination. I believe that BA are currently making a brand new safety video which should be out shortly along with the new uniform.
I do agree that BA's seat selection fee's are too high. However it allows them to offer free seat selection as a decent perk for frequent flyers (Bronze customers have free seat selection 7 days in advance, Silver/Gold free from time of booking). Without this perk, their Bronze frequent flyer status is practically worthless.
Enjoyed Economy back from LA. Upper deck totally recommended as they couldn't fill the flight and these seats are the last to fill. The window seat storage pod was worth paying for seat choice.
BA have just put KL & Bangkok back on their flight routes for october this year, out of London Gatwick. We have just booked for November, flight cost £702 economy, we booked two seats at the back of a 777 £72, each seat, out bound & return. So that puts the price up to £846 eash flight. These were the most expensive seats, though. Thai Airways November 2023 £960 each, March 2024 £865, so if you did book cheaper seats, you'd save a couple of quid. Now, let's see if the service is as good as Thai.
I had really badexperience the last time I flew with BA. They lost my luggage twice, going to my destination and coming home. My luggage was sent to Heathrow instead of Gatwick. Coming home, they sent my luggage to Las Vegas instead of my airport. so, Im pretty scared to fly with them again
Manual safety because some people wear masks and the safety video doesn’t include taking masks off before putting on your oxygen mask. It’s currently being updated.
I will be flying world traveller or econ from Ord to LHR in October and walk with a cane. Any suggestions where to sit or even an upgraded seat? On an A380, might i add
We will be flying from Miami to LHR and back. on the A380 and from what I see the rear cabin upper deck was what we chose...and yes it was 800 for our family of 4 but rows 82 and 83 looks like a good place to fly. Looks like you were in 82 k in that rear compartment.
Thank you for the review. Manual safety demonstrations are usually carried out when the video is not working. You made me laugh at your surprise when you were offered so much wine. Most british people would love that but in the USA it is frowned upon. I realised that when over there with a friend and we ordered a bottle of wine for dinner....each. I personally think it stinks that BA charge for seat selection.
It's a much older interior that hasn't been refreshed. The A350's are brand new. Many of the 777s have received the newer interior. the 787-10's have them as well, while the -8s and -9s are only starting to get refreshed now (see my unfortunate flight in business class on the 787-9). But the A380s were mothballed during the pandemic, and as far as I'm aware there are no current plans to refresh the interiors.
@@ameerali.ouarda when United introduced their 777-300ER to service, one of the biggest complaints was not really about padding or the seat design, but rather, that it was 10-abreast. Where's the complaints against BA now that they are doing the same thing? And where were those complainers when Air France, KLM, AA, Air Canada, etc. have done the same thing?
You don't have much of a choice, it's rows 70-83. I happened to be sitting on the right side of the aircraft and got a great view of central London, but of course it's possible you land from the west.
American Airlines' longhaul economy seat is the worst longhaul seat I have ever sat in. The seat is actually SMALL. The legroom is ok but everyone over 5'8" or so will have to raise the head rest wich only goes up an inch and a half. If you have flown a PSA American Eagle crj-700 or 900, you may have flown in the exact same seat as an American Airlines 777 with a different seat back design.
True, what I meant was my right foot could go on the right of the seat by the bin. But it was a bit wide, hence the man spreading comment. But should have shown it better.
You were lucky & unlucky. I paid for my son & I to have seats on the upper deck ORD-LHR, but not as much as you quoted (this was four years ago). How did you make it through security without a paper ticket? I had to return to the BA check in counter to request one. This is something that should be handed out automatically. My last BA flights have been hit-and-miss, but I wish you happy travels.
I had a mobile boarding pass on my phone, which I use whenever given the option. Most people had them, but for whatever reason they needed paper ones at the gate.
So a few months from Heathrow to Boston go with BA top deck like yourself and then yes bottom came back And the staff on ba was spot on you need to try brewdog ipa what they made for ba Boston to Heathrow with American airline 777 200 series I was cramped to f*** I'm 6' 5 I just can't believe it. Well felt robet so good luck pal with that
Oh absolutely! Last night I was looking to book a flight back from Europe in November actually. I wasn’t able to do the Scottish Highland trick, and ended up on a rather long and inconvenient Air Canada routing. It makes using Avios or AA miles to Europe nearly impossible. They even made Aer Lingus as bad.Iberia is the one solution…for now!
I prefer sitting on the lower deck right by the wing. The view is majestic, and I can recline guilt free with no one behind. The cabin on the lower deck is also larger and wider and the ceiling is much higher. There was also Wi-Fi and sockets on my BA A380 flight.
You're right about the A330, I have 2 flights on that I'll be taking soon, and will definitely cover the advantage of 2-3-2. It's just more common to see the 787, A350, or A380 on a lot of routes.
I used to have to fly a good deal & I would just love to travel on the A380 but reality bites hard. We are facing an urgent climate crisis & emissions from aircraft really contribute to this I hope the author is aware (he should be!) & starts to consider limiting his flights a little.

This makes me happy I only had to pay $35 to sit in the upper deck and $25 to sit in the lower deck for my Lufthansa A380 flights

Will be honest had too much wine to notice, never finished a film either kept snoozing
did you pay for the seats or were they assigned to you at the airport?
We could choose within our package holiday price, they were standard seats and when I chose the seats it looked fuller as only a few to choose from, so we were surprised by the fact it was virtually empty.
Thank you! Very informative and enjoyable at the same time.

My wife and I will be taking one back from Heathrow in a few weeks and yes we’re on the upper deck. Can’t wait.
I don't know how it happened but I got my tickets on A380 a wek ago and was able to select seat on top economy for free, window seat.
Likely was the fare class you purchased. This was actually booked as a basic economy ticket through Iberia of all people.
Enjoyed Economy back from LA. Upper deck totally recommended as they couldn't fill the flight and these seats are the last to fill. The window seat storage pod was worth paying for seat choice.
Can you remember the exact seat you were in? Trying to work out the best seat for outside views vs seejng the wing
From a freezeframe at 4:34, looks like I had 81k!
This is my favorite channel RUclips.
I'm Commander Shepherd and this is my favorite comment on the Citadel
BA does manual safety checks because individual screens fail and they want to make absolutely sure every passenger gets that important info.

we paid 900 bucks for a family of 5 from LHR to MIA Round Trip for Upper Deck Emergency Exit seats
I’m taking this route this spring with the same plane, but it will be the night flight.

amazing that even requires addressing lmao
people are so stupid
Great video as always!
2/4/2 Eco . Booked 2 seats for Euro 80 per Person to traval in September
Upper deck? Going to where?

@travelog were you indeed in row 82 or 81?
Have you been on virgin Atlantic? If so which do you prefer? BA or Virgin Atlantic? Thanks
I have not, they don't fly to Chicago. I am planning to try their business class out of NYC at some point. I've heard good things though.
I’m going to be flying on the A380 from Heathrow to Miami in March next year and I just chose the upper deck window seat and it was free. How bizarre
Likely depends on the fare class you booked.
I had wifi on the BA A380 back in 2019 and every A380 since so not sure what you're on about in this...
It wasn’t available/working. Same thing happened on my 787-9 in business previously.
Thank you for the review. Manual safety demonstrations are usually carried out when the video is not working. You made me laugh at your surprise when you were offered so much wine. why is the a380’s IFE different compared to BA’s a350 or b777?
It's a much older interior that hasn't been refreshed. The A350's are brand new. Slimline enhancements of "other airlines"? BA themselves has already put slimline seats on some 777s and A350s
That’s fair, I haven’t had the “pleasure” of those yet!
BA’s new seat are really comfy

What did you recommend with the upper deck economy for the best view?
You don't have much of a choice, it's rows 70-83. I happened to be sitting on the right side of the aircraft and got a great view of central London, but of course it's possible you land from the west.
Wonderful ❤, wich Seat did you choose?
From a freezeframe at 4:34, looks like I had 81k!
there is wifi on the a380
Thanks for your video, overall I liked it and gave it a thumbs up. I do would help you would sound, perhaps, a bit less complainy.
what was seat number?
I honestly don't remember, economy on the upper deck is rows 70-83

But saw the video box blocked your right foot

im going on a380 to boston and fortunately because of my disability they let me choose seat for free so i am going upper deck

If you have status with American, you could choose your seats on BA for free
Correct, I don’t anymore. Actually American has yet to even give me mileage credit for this flight…
I agree with you on the seat pricing. Sometimes the prices are ridiculous especially on European airlines.
Thanks for calling out the nickel and dining us on the seats!!!! 😅

Misery
I paid 400 bucks round trip for my husband and I between DFW and LHR round trip to get upper deck 2 seats, in May of this year.
Exactly, which is crazy. Hell, you can fly to London round trip for 400$ on Norse from New York!
A frickin RIP OFF! 😤
