I love bootlegs like these. Their quality is almost exactly like the originals and they're less expensive to get because they're less desirable as non official knockoffs.
The reason you're official NECA figure can't hold the other nunchuck is because it has one of Raphael's hands. They're specifically molded to hold the sais. Probably a factory mix up during the original run. I actually have a Leonardo with a Michelangelo head.
I love the Nick series, not so much Robot Chicken, but I think I should start watching it! Plus, I have watched a few clips and hearing Leo's actual voice in these messed up skits is really funny!
I think they actually used the official figures and just painted the headbands. I think this for two reasons: 1. The weapons are also painted 2. Some of the headband colours don't match the faces of the figures
Ironically, the Bootlegs are more realistic than the official products. The front shell (the plastron) is rock hard on a real Turtle, and along with the back shell and the sides connecting them together, acts as the turtles 'Rib-cage', meaning it shouldn't be flexible.
After seeing this video I went and bought these figures (all being sold together which was nice). And as Phelous did say in the video, they are very nice figures and well worth the investment. Overall they are one set of bootlegs that isn't lacking like many others.

Yeah, I love the original Mirage designs but prefer the multi-color bandanas so combing the is awesome, I always wished Neca made official variations with multi-color bandanas.
I like how the michelangelo figure has actual nunchucks instead of having them be all plastic and no chains of any kind. Now you can actually play with them

So I first saw the NECA tmnt set at a collectible store and the owner had them on display - a set of 5 (I think it came with April), for over $350. I was blown away by that price, but was in love with the look of them. When I got home and checked ebay to see what they were really worth, I could only find a few listings, and they were around $170 EACH. Then, I saw the bootlegs - $50. Too good to be true led me to finding out they were bootlegs, but I bought them anyway - why? Because I want them on display out of the box, have no interest in collecting for resale, and they're $50! I got the red-band set, and the coloring is WAY better than the colored-band set you showed in this video. The shells aren't glossy, the colors are a little darker than the real deal, but they came with all the proper hands. For the very slight difference in color, these are worth the $13 a piece rather than having to fork over $170. Easily.
I remember seeing this guys as a kiddo in their white and black style all together in a pack with a bootleg 2012 Splinter and April.. but i didn't bought them because i already had the 2012 Turtles at home.. BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE!! I want this guys so hard!!!
I ended up finding all four of these guys but they were all loose and had red headbands. I simply repainted all except Raphael and I love them. Theyre great editions to my collection
I’ve been seeing these bootlegs a lot on eBay and after seeing this video I’m gonna pick these up I love the mirage comics and these figures would be really cool to have
After seeing this video I just HAD to order me a set of these, they finally turned up and I couldn't be more happy about them, I prepared myself for the smell but I didn't even have that problem unless you practically shove them up your nose xD can't believe I got all 4 of them for $40.. anyway just wanted to say thanks!
Now I'm wishing NECA actually did release the turtles with their colored bandanas along with the Mirage comic ones are these bootlegs still look really good
It's getting hard to find even the bootlegs of these figures, but your video has shown me that they're worth tracking down. I'll have to find the all-red versions because, being based on the original comics, the purist in me won't accept the cartoon-colored headbands on these designs. But either way they're awesome Turtles figures!
These bootleg tmnt figures are so good, its the only set of knockoffs on ebay that's literally almost sold out (only colored headband don and mikey are left).
i wonder if these are bootlegs only due to technicality. like they were MEANT to be official, but higher ups pulled the plug before release, leading rogues to go "fine, we'll sell them without you"
I've got the all red bootleg Mirage TMNT, and they're amazing. Yeah, it sucks that you can't really make use of the ab crunch, but they're still super poseable and well balanced. Sidekicks and overhead kicks are no problem, even without support. Sometimes they fight my NECA Aliens. That's not relevant to anything, except that it's awesome. Also, they don't smell anymore. haha
I saw this video back when it came out and just now got around to buying a bootleg set. Mine were made of a darker green plastic and were missing some paint details. Still solid plastic quality at least, although there was some mold flashing. It also seems like the stamp on mine says NECA 2013. I wonder if mine are bootlegs of the bootlegs or maybe these just declined in quality over the years since this video. I'm happy enough with them for now, but I thought it was interesting
I've never met someone who said he likes the 4 red ones over the colored ones more. We all like the original comic turtles more, yes. But lets face it: If eastman & laird would have colored the headbands on them from the very start (keep in mind that they were b/w) it would be awesome. I am a huge fan of the original comics and bought me also the colored bootlegs. It's just the best "mix" of the comic turtles and the animated turtles.
+Blutroth For these designs of turtles, I actually like the red head bands. It must be something that stuck with me as an early childhood memory that makes me feel it suit these turtles better. All the other, yes , I prefer the colored head-bands of course.
Phelan Porteous thank you so much for bringing these to my attention. I spent years kicking myself for not getting them when I had the chance. I ordered them on ebay as soon as I saw your video and other then the loose hip joint on Donatello's hip their all perfect.
There are figures in tube that are original, they all have red bandanas, but they were bootleged later, so you also have the figures in tube that are fake and the colored figures in tube.
Honestly, I like these, they're quite close to the legit ones. But, where can you get them? eBay would try to sell bootlegs claiming they were the real ones, so what if you want to get these?
TheCraDioN What I meant, yet didn't include it, I meant if are there any tags, or things to look for besides if they come from out of country? I mean I'm sure they have bootlegs here, but how legal are they to buy, can someone get in trouble?
SciFiFan2012 No you can't get in trouble. If you just type in Neca Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on ebay all the ones with coloured headbands are the bootlegs and all come from the same country (China). It's about $40-50 for the whole set. There's tons on sale on ebay but they're all the same so don't worry about ordering a lower quality bootleg or anything.
TheCraDioN Hey, thanks I appreciate this! I want to try to look for sentai figures (original source for MMPR) as they cost a ton for 'official' ones, I try to buy what I can, but $70 and up is a lot more for a figure or two in my opinion.
In my opinion, I prefer the bootlegs. I have both sets but the officials seem rather dull in comparison. Also, I always questioned the packaging theory. I saw the tube packaged turtles in Target of all places. They were near the bubble packaged ones with the accessories. Not sure Target would sell bootlegs.
Neca also made the tube packaged ones with less accessories when they were first released if you wanted ninja stars and the baby turtles you had to buy the clam shell versions
Yep. Mine don't smell at all, anymore. I was a little afraid of the harsh rubbery paint smell on them, but after about a month, they degassed enough to the point where I forgot they smelled.
Ive got both sets of multi coloured and red bandana turtles, there is a difference. Besides the obvious difference in colour schemes, the tones and shading are different. The paint jobs and build quality on the red bandana turtles, are almost if not exactly spot on to "non bootleg". The green plastic used on the multi coloured bandana turtles seem more dark and the figures have more of a sheen to them. They also have a "dirty/grimy" look to them with the way they're shaded. Actually not bad. The only problem this set besides the smell, is that you may need to super glue some minor parts back on (like the belt knot). Also, Leo and Raphael have the same head.
Mason Dude They came a couple of weeks ago and I'm pretty sure they're real. The only thing that might make them bootlegs is they were made in China, have blueish shells and there was a bit of a chemical smell when I opened Leo and Donnie. I got the red masked ones so I dont think I'll ever be sure. But even if they are bootlegs they're still awesome! Everything Phelous praised about them is true.
I have these bootlegs too and really like them. I dont care that they are bootlegs. I just wish there were more accessories like the original release, especially the diorama pieces.
Phelous, I wanted to ask you a couple questions. I just recently bought these turtles and I saw a black and white set (that I think are awesome) that are about 200 bucks, I was wondering if you know of any quality bootlegs of the black and white set, or am I doomed to have to muster up 200 bucks for them? Also are the Michael Bay Movie turtles worth getting? I just brought a set of the classics collection and I keep seeing them for cheap on Ebay but I want to know if they are even worth it (I find them to be kind of ugly but its the turtles so I want them). Also a lot of the ones I've seen are from china, does that mean they're bootlegs?
GenericMinority I've never seen bootlegs of the black and white ones at this point.Personally I don't like the bay turtle's look in the slightest so I've not bothered with them yet. Only reason I might is to look at their bootlegs, but they aren't high on my priority list. If you see any figure cheap from China though it's a really good chance it's bootleg.
@@phelous hi there fellas my name is Everett and I'm visually impaired completely and I'm just wondering do you know where I be able to find the official NECA Turtles the ones that come with the street dioramas do you know where I'd be able to find them at a reasonable price and how much did the bootlegs cost and how much did the black-and-white ones cost I'm just curious thank you I'm not paying $800 or $1,000 for all of them that's ridiculous and April O'Neil and the Mauser 3-pack
Mine were faulty. Front shells not shining and rubber parts, bandana, kneepads and belt, can have the paint removed too easily if you accidentally use your nail and scratch them.
Oh man I really want some NECA turtles..... I've been a huge fan of the comic since getting the graphic novels of the original Eastman & Laird mirage comics!!!!!
I might get these since I'm in the UK and Neca themselves won't ship here. I like the idea of the different coloured headbands with the Mirage Comic art style.
I got a set from China and but, unfortunately, my figures were not posable. They did have the articulation points, but moving the limbs put considerable strain on the joints and you could tell they would give. So, although the figures look great they are more like statues than action figures. Did you get your hands on the revoltech TMNT bootlegs?
+Kaithedxninja Gaming [Gmod,Roblox,Undertale And MC] Normally I would just pass by your comment. But you did come back a full week latter still looking for an answer. So while I'm two weeks late I hope your still interested. To be completely honest I'm making an educated guess. Phelous stated they were based on the original couple chapters of the comic. Looking at the artwork in the video, it looks like the necks of the turtles were originally much more like turtle necks which are usually very long, just retractable. I'd suggest looking up the snake head turtle who's neck can be almost 60% as long as it's shell. Yes really. It looks wierd. So yeah that's my answer. Probably had very turtle-like looooong necks in the early days.
I bought a set of these based on Phelous's video and never noticed the smell. So maybe Phelous just got a bad set. Anyways they are awesome figures and a must for TMNT fans
so i got of these yesterday. Are the shells on yours soft? and i have an official set of them all to compare with their shells arent really soft. ( theres give but not like the BLs i got) and my bootleg Michelangelo's left arm wont stay on. but I've owned enough neca products to know that happens from time to time.
I think maybe the left hand on your official mikey is actually Raphael's hand, which probably explains why he has difficulty holding the nunchucks. Also, on my official sets of the turtles they all have problems with the green matching from piece to piece, so that may not be from aging because mine were like that back in 2008. I'm surprised your bootleg figure still has the ab joints. Mine do not, their upper torso is a solid piece, but they still have the waste swivel. The bootlegs are great, and take away any reason to pay out to butt for an official set.
Just won these at an auction. How good are the bootlegs? I mean are there awful defects like two left arms or whatever? Also do they look smaller than the original or is it just me?
with all these high quality bootlegs popping up, I am curious if he will get his hands on one of those knock off masterpiece transformers figures, like the gold covered sideswipe.

Man that "smell" is called the new fig smell. One of the way things ever.
New fig smell is best smell (depending on the smell).
This episode is way sober.
Phelan Porteous Thaaanksss Phelous. You're the best (relative to this situation that is).
Sweet reference to the very first TMNJ comic! (10:25)
>Mirage style + Colored headbands
sold, especially since it looks like they might scale well with Marvel Legends
Mine were faulty. Front shells not shining and rubber parts, bandana, kneepads and belt, can have the paint removed too easily if you accidentally use your nail and scratch them.
i am still waiting for mine
Oh man I really want some NECA turtles..... I've been a huge fan of the comic since getting the graphic novels of the original Eastman & Laird mirage comics!!!!!
where online could you by a set of the bootlegs??
Scroll up, the guy w/ the Deadpool Avatar gave me a link to an ebay auction from a seller that has multiple sets of the 4.
Probably eBay.
Great vid new sub 👍🏾
I was SO close to getting a set of these years ago, but decided to wait.
Still regret it.
theres a way to know if the plastic use in this figure is safe or im goin to die from poisoning?
can you review the bootleg neca sdcc shredder?
I might get these since I'm in the UK and Neca themselves won't ship here. I like the idea of the different coloured headbands with the Mirage Comic art style.
I got a set from China and but, unfortunately, my figures were not posable. They did have the articulation points, but moving the limbs put considerable strain on the joints and you could tell they would give. So, although the figures look great they are more like statues than action figures. Did you get your hands on the revoltech TMNT bootlegs?
Their Necks...WHAT IS WRONG WITH THEIR NECKS?! 😂
Please Tell Me
+Kaithedxninja Gaming [Gmod,Roblox,Undertale And MC] Normally I would just pass by your comment.
+Kaithedxninja Gaming [Gmod,Roblox,Undertale And MC] Nothing at all
where were the neca ones made i wonder
Phelan were i can find then
i got a set of the red bootlegs and Donatello didn't come with a tie thing on the mask
I bought a set of these based on Phelous's video and never noticed the smell. So maybe Phelous just got a bad set.
Anyways they are awesome figures and a must for TMNT fans
i dont even take mine out of the box ever i just wrap them all in bubble wrap and then seal them in a cool dry place in a moisture proof tote.
The bootlegs seem more sturdy and more play than collect
how much have you paid for that April?
Cherry Pits I seen a neca April for not that much about $ 29.80 on amazon right now!
I WISH THE BOOTLEG TURTLES WERE IN THE 4 PACK VERSION LIKE THE WAY THEY DID WITH THE ORIGINAL ONE
so i got of these yesterday.
The bootlegs are great, and take away any reason to pay out to butt for an official set.
you outta check out Figma bootlegs. somehow they get dangerously close to exact but fuck up gloriously.
Hey man...were u drinking while doing this review? u sound hammered.
Someone should make a compilation of these end card stingers and skits.
