This video is giving me life. Been loc'd 10+ years after nearly a year I kissed covering goodbye. I put them in a loose side ponytail and call it a day. When it was shorter I let them loose like you do. Our ancestors never made it as complicated as people do today. Ugh. Leave your hair alone folks!
I sleep FREE!! Nothing covering my hair👍🏽😊, never have, even n the beginning, I feel like my hair is like a plant, I don't do anything to my hair that I wouldn't do to a plant😊
Ohhh man you guys I'm so happy I found you. I feel like a unicorn in the loc community. Like this is one of the oldest hairstyles people never used to wrap their hair every night.
Sometimes I cover my hair and some times I don't- I purchased a satin pillow case from the beauty supply store, so that of I'm lazy with covering up my hair I don't have any worries about lint. Great video, always enjoy your videos!
I'm nearly 15 months loc'd & because I don't put products in my hair I sleep without a hair cap. Plus my pillows are cotton as well. No lint as far as I can tell. Love your videos keep them coming.
I'm very glad you enjoy them! :) And I understand! It's a habit, but it's still practical! It felt weird for the first time letting my hair be loose when I sleep without it getting messed up lol
yeah I was told its good to have sheets or pillow cases of silk or something a long time ago....but i just wrap my hair up in scarfs or sometimes I just pass out after work. As far as I know there's not a real way to keep lent from building up over time, but im sure sleeping with scarfs or what you mentioned minimizes it a lot. I like your locks. They're looking great and healthy.
Hey Terry! :D It's definitely understandable and practical as to why you'd wear a scarf at night. How long have you had your locs for again? I remember them being very long, even since those Towson days! I bet they'd be harder to sleep with being loose.
hhahahahahah I loved the intro, hahahah just lovely! You have a wonderful yet conservative personality...at least for your viewers but I know your friends and family knows your a character! Great video:)
OMG!!! Finally!! Your hair is GORG!! Mine are gonna look like this. !! My hair is so thick, didn't wanna free form, the perfect coil isn't good lookn for me and omg, beautiful, I can't wait!!!
Loved, loved, loved the intro--very funny and clever. I have baby(ish) locs for the 4th or 5th time, and slept with my hair wrapped in a scarf or do-rag for the first month or so. In the mornings my hair looked liked I'd poured it from the can--massive helmet-head. I'd then need to spritz and rework it before going out, adding even more product. Ack! The locks weren't happening either, and the loctitian (on my second, and last visit) scolded me for not using a wash cap ande wrapping every single nite. I'm now (today, in fact) swtiching over to aloe vera and rosewater after a clarifying wash (and ACV rinse). More to come. Thank you for your post.
Massive helmet hair is REAL! lol Do you use the aloe/rosewater for spritzing? Or more like a rinse? How are your locs coming along now? Let me know! Glad you liked the intro :)
I've just used the rosewater for spritzing/moisturizing (and as the final rinse after shampooing). I haven't yet used my aloe/rosewater blend twisting and tidying-up of the hair (yesterday was the first day I'd not had *any* product in my hair, and decided to extend that through tommorrow). . My hair and scalp are kind of dry, but I'm trying to stay away from oils if I can avoid it (and need to drink more water, too--the best way to moisturize evvahthang). As for my locs--a few (maybe 35%) have started to lock, I've put little braids in maybe 20%, and the remainder are locking. My hair is thickening, too (I tend to shed hair when I'm under stress, which happened when I started a new job in January--I coulda knit a couple baby sweaters the way the hair was flying out of my head)--a wonderful development. . I'm prolly not alone in having different types of hair textures o my head. The kinkier hair is locking best; the straight(er) less so.
I sleep with a 'du-bag' loc scarf. Got it through Curlynugrowth. It holds my locs in a pocket and has a band which goes across your forehead and this in the back, so locs are secure and covered. The material is breathable and light, and there's room to grow! Love it an ALWAYS cover my head because I don't want lint! When I take it off, I shake my locs, and they are free and easy!
She had one some tie back - it featured her hubbie, before he cut his locs, so a year or so back, I think. She sells it through her website. My son loves his too...better than the doo-rag he had been using previously.
Great video sis! I tie my teenage locs up with a satin scarf (it's more like a loc soc). It definitely helps maintain them & keeps them from drying out. I also have a satin pillow case, but right now since I'm using my pregnancy pillow I only rely on the scarf. Lol.
Hey sis! 😍 I see your point of sealing in moisture to not dry out your locs. Are you referring to the moisture from oils? Since mildew can be created from wet locs over time! What's your perspective? Let me know :)
You have the best videos haha!! I have em tied back because they're long but when they're shorter I just leave em. If they're not tied back when long it can get annoying
I love the inner voice lecturing you!! XDD and I wrap my hair with a scarf every night because if I don't, I wake up with my hair looking like a mullet. #notcute.
I'm 11 months loc'd and have used a satin bonnet my hair for years, even as a loose natural. Definitely keeps my hair from drying out and keeps me from catching them when I turn in the bed. I only wet my hair 2-3 times a week so I gotta hang on to all the moisture I can!😃
I had been doing that up until a month ago, never seemed to moisturize them properly. Then I saw your vids and how you wet your hair in the shower, so I started doing that instead. I have no clue why I was so afraid to that lol!
My locs are neck length and I always sleep with a scarf on. Even before I locked my hair I slept with my hair covered. Why? Because I highly dislike having my hair wild and free at night while I sleep lol
I love watching your journey! I'm 7 1/2 months semi free forming do you experience flattening of your locs? I'm noticing some are flatter than others. Not sure if I care really, just interested.
I did notice a little bit of flattening of my locs when they were a bit younger, after sleeping at night! Not completely fat, but definitely not round. But because I wet my hair in the shower every morning after waking up, it was a way for my locs to wake up too! And they would go back to being more cylindrical. I appreciate you watching the videos, I hope this helps!
I'm stopping wearing the bonnet. I have new locs but they are braided locs, I think they loc faster. Plus, I feel free and my scalp breathes without it lol
It's from the sun! I never ended up dyeing my hair because I'm hesitant about the dryness or damage it can cause (if not done right). The sun is always out in south Florida, so the sun has definitely brightened up some of the tips.
How often did you wet your hair during the first month or two? I had to restart my locs and they are only 2 weeks old. Would wetting them daily cause them to come out?
I sprayed them with a water bottle every morning. So about once a day, maybe twice. Just spritzed it enough so they were lightly damp, more than that may cause them to unravel. Just a nice medium to keep the hair from drying out before the first wash!
Hey Happylocs! ☺️ That is a very good point. I usually try not to even wet my hair past the afternoon, but covering your hair at night will definitely slow down the drying process.
I'm going to start my dreads. when there done there going to be like an in long. What are some easier ways to protect them while sleeping if we can't afford silky sheets or oily head scafs. 11 year old cameron
Hey Cameron! Thanks for the question. I got my sheets from Walmart! So expense isn't something you have to worry about. Just look for any type of material that isn't rough cotton! Satin scarfs or wraps shouldn't be too expensive either, you can find them in many stores, also including walmart! haha Good luck!

"are you finished or are you done" aight birdman chill😂😂😂
LOL :D
I sleep FREE!! Nothing covering my hair👍🏽😊, never have, even n the beginning, I feel like my hair is like a plant, I don't do anything to my hair that I wouldn't do to a plant😊
I feel the same way!! 😄
Ohhh man you guys I'm so happy I found you. I feel like a unicorn in the loc community. Like this is one of the oldest hairstyles people never used to wrap their hair every night.
Just like you said your scalp, roots, and pores have to breathe..so no coverup when sleeping
Yup, they gotta breathe! Almost like a plant, a little sunlight, water, and air.
genius
Just as I needed this, Thank you Lauren
You're very welcome! Thanks for checking out the video!
I always wrap my locs. Just a habit. I sometimes eat in the bed. Don't want any crumbs in my locs.
That is a very good reason! I am a culprit of that as well! haha :)
LOL "Dang! are you finish or are you done?" Had me dying!
LMAO :D

Thanks as always, Doctor AfroLocs! :)

I definitely will keep them coming, Belle! Thank you for watching :)
recently got crotchet locs and your video was super helpful👌.thnx
Glad I could help!
I always enjoy your videos. I've been tying my hair up since perm days so it's just become the norm for me to tie my hair up even with my locs.
I'm very glad you enjoy them! :) And I understand! It's a habit, but it's still practical! It felt weird for the first time letting my hair be loose when I sleep without it getting messed up lol

I'm glad you enjoyed the video!! :) And yes, they do hahaha

i know this is 4 years old but you're so beautiful..
I needed this cause I hate night caps

Forgot to mention that my locks are still pretty short--maybe 2-3 inches long.
I got the loc sock love it keeps my locs clean
Where did you get one?
Online r the beauty supply shop

It being breathable and light sounds great! Does Curlynugrowth have a video about it?

Glad you got a laugh out of it! :)
Your hair is perfect
You have the best videos haha!! I have em tied back because they're long but when they're shorter I just leave em. If they're not tied back when long it can get annoying

Lol oh no!! 😂 Mullets never seem to be a good look haha. Glad you enjoyed the video! ☺️

Love your content!! I'm subbing :-)
I'm so glad you enjoy it, Jordan! Welcome to the channel! :D
+Lauren Jackson ;-)
I need that kind of locs they are super
Long Live, " That's what she said"!!!!!!
Long live! Lol
My locs are neck length and I always sleep with a scarf on. Even before I locked my hair I slept with my hair covered. Why? Because I highly dislike having my hair wild and free at night while I sleep lol
Haha I understand! Comfort is very important, especially when you're just trying to get some sleep lol

I'm stopping wearing the bonnet. I have new locs but they are braided locs, I think they loc faster. Plus, I feel free and my scalp breathes without it lol
😍
Lmao love this, thanks
You're welcome, Wasion! Glad you liked the video :)
I am new to the loc community. I am not clear on the seemingly need or necessity to cover the (baby) locs at bed time?
How exactly did you get your locs that thick?
I didn't use to but i do now thinking about changing bedding I have necklength locs 💞ur🔒S
did you ever dye your hair or is that slight color change from the sun?
It's from the sun! I never ended up dyeing my hair because I'm hesitant about the dryness or damage it can cause (if not done right). The sun is always out in south Florida, so the sun has definitely brightened up some of the tips.
+Lauren Jackson thank you!
I would love to see u in a style. Please do one
My length is still in an awkward phase, but right now I'm still looking into loc jewelry, now that they feel a bit more mature!
Great video
Thanks!
Thanks!

I started locking my hair a couple days ago with a sponge and idk if i should wear a beanie when i sleep or nothing at all
So I don't have any locs I literally found out about them today. I was wondering what I should do when I'm sleeping.
I sleep with nothing on my baby locks but they are flat.
lol, great video
Thank you, Marissa! :)
Lol these voices in your head. Also it keeps moisture in so they dont dry up!
Hey Happylocs! ☺️ That is a very good point. I usually try not to even wet my hair past the afternoon, but covering your hair at night will definitely slow down the drying process.
Dry, clean locks(hair) actually knot faster. Make sure the scalp is moist, though.

Ok. Thx for replying. My mom said we will find something
I also have a silk pillowcase but I sleep with a scarf why? I'm like the 1% of people that get hot easily so I don't want my locs on me
Being too hot at night is the worst, it'll keep you up! You're not alone on that one lol
Yeah I can count on 1 hand how many nights i slept without my hair covered
So you prefer to cover your locs at night?
+Lauren Jackson negative! just scared one will fall out. #SmallLocProblems
Oh no! How long have you been loc'd for?
+Lauren Jackson 22 months!
im at 5 months so is it good if i cover them or let them out
I never tie my hair up like in theory that sounds great but like I neverrrrr do that shit lmao
LOL! Is that because you don't want to create tension on your locs?
+Lauren Jackson lol no it's just because I'm a lazy bum
+starr prophets 😂😂😂
LOL!
😍😍
lol you pretty and funny
+SuperJasper59 thank you!
LOL
