Zurich Galattalbahn & City Trams, January 2017

The Galattalbahn light rail system serves Zurich Airport and the new developments around Galattal to the north-west of Zurich. The tracks are meter gauge 600v DC allowing the trams to run through to the city centre over VBZ Zurich tram tracks. The five-section low-floor trams are similar to the Bombardier Cobras used in Zurich, but with the blue-white livery reversed. Although called a Stadtbahn, the Galattalbahn appears as routes 10 and 12 on the ZVV tram map.
The Galattalbahn runs at speed on elevated or reserved tracks: there were some serious collisions at un-protected level crossings early on, and automatic barriers have been introduced.
