  • The Visakhapatnam class (Project 15B) is a class of guided-missile destroyers currently under construction for the Indian Navy. The class comprises four ships - Visakhapatnam, Mormugao, Imphal and Porbandar all of which are being built by the Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) in India and will be the largest destroyers to be operated by the Indian Navy
    Kavach is a naval decoy system to distract radar-guided missiles from their targets and act as a system for self-defence. The Kavach decoy system releases chaff made up of silver coated glass fiber. The chaff forms a clutter which remains suspended in the air so that the incoming guided missile confuses the chaff as the actual target and gets locked onto the chaff instead of the actual target.

      We are not going to do land attack on some country in different hemisphere. For pak and china a land based version is enough. We can actually use the extra space on shilps for more SAMs.

    Indian ships have much lower missile count than western designs of similar weight class. This might be a problem in the future. 7500 tonner destroyer with only 32-48 vls cells is on the low side, even if the missiles themselves are good, it can't stand up to saturation attacks. Western ships with similar displacement have 64-96 vls cells & much lower crew count (180-240 crew). We're using 300 - 350 crew & reducing the weapons load. Naval design staff should look into more automated subsystems if future design projects. Reduce crew count, automatically increases space for more weapons.

    • @akshatbhandari4779
      @akshatbhandari4779 2 года назад +1

      We don't need to follow western system blindly as the crew cost is more expensive and automated systems might be cheaper whereas India crew cost is lower.

      Ur clearly under the illusion that more weapons = better platform. Having an effective battle management system, accurate search, identification, track system, stealthy weapon designs, and electronic countermeasures truly decides the capability of a warship.

    48 VLS is enough for Indian destroyers at present senario and for next 6-7 years. But as India is booming it's economy and the major role which India is expecting to perform for the world in coming years, India definitely needs more VLS in future destroyers same as in US or Chinise destroyers. At present Indian destroyers are focused on anti-ship and defensive role but in future this role should be offensive and projection of firepower and for this we need more VLS. Jai Hind. 🇮🇳

    Under-Armed so badly. It has only 48 vertical-launch-sys overall, while similar type of adversaries have 96-120 VLS. It should have more VLS for atleast 64 of Barak-8. Just think of a real-time scenario, 32/16 SAM will be so out-numbered in a fraction of time. This is an era of Swarm-drones and dummy-missiles. You cannot counter-attack an aerial-target with Brahmos, so you have to rely on SAMs only. The "Ting-Tings" carry around 120-150 VLSs. Then we also have to keep in mind the Laws of "Efficiency" and "Probability". The VLS cannot be re-fitted at a later stage, once the Design-phase is completed
