    Looks like the 54 was shot at a bit more of an angle.A square shot would have tied up the results.Just my 2 cents though.

    I call it a DRAW! Not all blocks are created equal. Without doing the test several times you can't come to a positive conclusion. A second, third or fouth test likely will have different results. Winner would be the one that did the most damage repeatedly.

      I agree should shoot at least three blocks each with guns on a bench set so trajectory is the same on the target.

    that 24" 308 CMMG is a great fire arm. the longer barrel definately get the most out of the round.

    maybe in one of your future vids you can demo its long distance accuracy.

    Cinder block test are the best comparison videos. Put the blocks sideways, like they are in structures, and then put a block of balistic gel on the other side, to see how much deflection each round has afterwards. Yes, it's way more work for you, but I think it would look neat. Thanks.

    In this test the .308 definitely was the winner. I have a Ruger SR762 and a Sako in .308. The Sako can drive nails from long distances and the Ruger is a lot of semi-auto fun. I've said this to you a million times..... It's smart to go with US military rounds because of their availability and abundance. I have plenty of different guns but my go to guns are chambered in 223/5.56 and 308/7.62x51. It keeps down the cost of the ammo and those rounds are always available (except during covid-19). That .308 looks real nice, which rifle are you going to use for your long distance shooting? I've seen your long distance shooting videos but I'm not sure if have chosen one specific rifle yet Great video brother. God bless.

    It's ok we call them cinder blocks down here in the south. Good video really don't know a whole lot about the 7.62 by 54. I've recently purchased an AR-10 chambered in 7.62 by 51 or 308 and still learning about it. I'm really an old-school kind of guy this still wants to go back to his bolt action rifle however I do like the AR-10 or you can just let him fly. Keep up the good work man and God bless you and your family.

    I think the results may have been a bit different with a clean shot of the mosin but as others stated, it would take multiple shots to find consistent results to compare but I’d be curious to see how they compare at range. Good video nevertheless.

  • @l3ch
    @l3ch 4 года назад +2

    Nice video, but I would have used a TulAmmo 308 in addition to this side by side comparison. The TulAmmo rounds are usually underpowered in my opinion. I enjoy shooting both calibers as well.

    • @brucecoleman7412
      @brucecoleman7412 4 года назад

      AnimalLechter I agree! Both rounds should preferably be from the same manufacturer so that the loads should be similar. Tula is typically underpowered compared to Winchester or S&B. Also, the Tula power from round to round is not as consistent, so more blocks are required for an accurate test.

    • @dale27488
      @dale27488 9 месяцев назад

      I disagree, in a caliber comparison, we should be comparing what is the typical loading for each rifle, and in this case, it's either surplus or newer Russian steel for 54r, and I would use m80 ball for 308(or 150gr fmj if it's commercial 308win)

    The blocks could be either cinder blocks or concrete blocks. it depends on who manufacturered it. Some block manufacturers use a combination bottom ash and fly ash both sourced from coil burning power plants ( coil ash is cinder according to Webster's) along with stone screenings and type 2 cement to make cinder block's. Cement block's are typically type 2 cement, stone and a product called stay light to reduce weight.

    Looked to me like the 54r dumped more energy in the first 2. It's like a 5.56 vs 7.69 test. The 7.62 is a bigger fist and the 5.56 is a better high speed slicer. Same here.

My dad built the new stock for it and used a military rifle conversion book from the 1960s to complete the stock. I teamed it was a real ww2 k98 Maurer, but I am not that lucky! I shot my first deer with it near Helps Canyon, Oregon.

    308 vs mosin is apples to apples, this all comes down to projectiles used, it is totally possible to use the exact same projectiles in both rifles, only issue is sizing them down a couple thousandths to work in the 308 and then test. I bet results would even be more similar

  • @halfcirclehranch6877

    I have a couple Mosins... I like my M44 best... And I have .308 covered with my Century C308.
    Something to keep in mind on this test: the 7.62x54R round had a material advantage, with the mild steel jacket being more durable than the copper jacket of the 7.62x51. the tiny difference possibly made by poor shot placement should have been more than offset by the steel jacket, way I see it. The 7.62x51 just did better. And, as I recall, the 7.62x51 has somewhat higher velocity.
    If you don't agree with my assessment, that's too bad. 😉

    I knew it would be really close, but I kinda thought the 7.62x51 would have just a little more power because I think it's loaded to a slightly higher PSI than the 7.62x54R. I'd almost bet that your 24 inch barrel will penetrate more, using the same ammo, than my 16 inch barrel will. Pretty sure yours is more accurate too.

    Thanks for the video. You could try some plywood on the sides to try and keep the round where you may be able to find it. Just an idea. And I have a .308. I like that one.

    I think that the 7.62x54r have a little bit more potential if your action is strong enough because of his case capacity which is 4.16 cm³ vs 3.6 cm³ for the .308 winchester. Both are amazing cartridges.

    Yo Whotie!!!! It's not a fair comparison with the AR style 308, even though 308 is my favorite rifle caliber, but I guarantee a through an through shot with a bolt action 308 rifle..

    Those two rifle next to each other, that was like Sidney Reilly next to Jason Bourne. I'm old school, so I cheered for the mosin. I mean, that space age rifle sure gets the job done, but I just find good ol' bolt rifles manlier. And since I'm cheering for the mosin, I'm gonna come up with some tall tale as to why the space age rifle _appeared_ {cough cough} to fare better.
    Let me see what I can come up with (and no, I'm not gonna go on about the less well placed shot and why the bullet had to punch through at an angle). Hmmmn. Ahh, yes: since that space age rifle is your new pet, you went off camera and rigged the odds. You weighed both block on a fancy-pants space age apparatus and chose the densest and heaviest concrete block for the mosin to take swing at, and saved the lighter and flimsier one for your shiny new stormtrooper-rifle. That's how that lego rifle just inched it's way past the good ol' mosin!
    And don't no one come up with some bologna about me being paranoid! Wearing a tin foil hat and spreading salt in protective patterns under the rug does not make me paranoid or bonkers! My teddybear told that! {cough cough cough}

      A long single stacked mag may negate the rim lock issue in a semi operation. Preferably piston operation over impingement system with adjustable valves to contain all the expelling gas.
      There might be some custom builds out there, but from factory would be nice. Shouldn't be to hard either, technically a longer ar ten.

    It may not really make a difference, but let's see anyway.

    Don't forget to subscribe I'm a fan of 308 and that's what I would get but there's a chance that the Nato round since it was all sensor and took off that material is it possible that the weight of that material had an effect on the third wall damage. Then again maybe not. Either way I still vote 308.

    I'll pick the 54R simply because you can shoot it with the iron sights and don't need a scope.

    That Mosin is a sweet looking rifle - built to do a job. Right, concrete blocks, the Mosin I predict will go through all three ribs. The 308 the same but shatters the block. Is my guess right! ramble on! 2:11 -Oh well, got it completely wrong!

    What year of manufacture is your Mosin? I see it has the laminated wood stock. There are harder to find for us collectors, and usually bring a higher price. I have 2 rifles with that style of stock.

    Love to see 7.62 x 51 vs 308. Before you say they are the same they are not. Super similar but the 308 is a little higher pressure. Might be enough to push thru the third wall!

  • @1960gambit
    @1960gambit 4 года назад

    If you would have hit the center with the Mosin, it would have been a different story. You hit the block at an angle and likely the bullet just grazed or completely missed the back wall of the block

  • @mottomanic
    @mottomanic 4 года назад

    So close. Got the closest weight bulletS, but then you fire one from a bolt action and the other from a semi-auto. 54r with the longer barrel and all the gasses moving the projectile, where as the ar10 looses fps because of the gas system and shorter barrel. Try with 2 bolt actions next.

    I was wrong too. I thought they would both just barely break the 3rd wall, and I thought the Mosin would have slightly more power, although I was rooting for the .308.

  • @foreverjim5240
    @foreverjim5240 4 года назад

    The mosin is usually loaded hotter than 308. Especially the milsurp stuff with steel cores or s&b hunting rounds. U kind of had the absolute cheapest 7.62x54 made. Still a cool video. I think a really cool video idea would be to test the recoil of those 2 guns bc they are pretty close in power. I bet the cmmg is way softer shooting!!

  • @OFallons
    @OFallons 4 года назад

    If the barrel was a little firmer in its mounting base it would have gone thru the third wall.

  • @angelosuke832

    7×62/54 needs to be in the center too with the shot I think the brick was kinda side ways when you shot it, then the 308 brick shot was right on the face of the rifle .. I would say DRAW or a RE-DO
