I love my DSC-S730 I bought in 2008 for $179. The flash has stopped working, but I like this camera for fitting in my pocket and quality pictures. I may use your instructions to open it up and take a look. But there are Ebay sellers of these tested and guaranteed for $25 with free shipping.
Yeah a low cost of replacement can make you wonder why bother fixing it, but it's a good chance to learn something about it and if you really like that model get another anyway. It's good to have spare parts.
Found camera like this however the zoom button seems to have lost its “click” and is a bit temperamental I’m assuming this will need a new one soldered on so you know where I can find such a button?

+Y. O Y.G Don't quite understand the question. There's no battery for the flash, just a large capacitor mentioned at 13:52. The stored energy is dumped across the flash tube to fire it.
I have the same camera but the problem that i found is that every time that i press the shoot buttom, the screen goes black. It doesnt suddenly turn off, the screen just goes black and i can't do anything
A white blank screen? If all functions work then maybe damaged LCD or flex or flex connector. If black, maybe backlight isn't working so you can't see text but it is there.

I would make sure the battery is in good condition and fully charged. If so I'm not sure what the problem could be.
