Thrill was their very first MV and they were like 20-23 at the time in 2014. They have only got better and. you may not beleive this, but they are even better live. This video is six years old and as many have already said they have progressed into now being the best band on the planet, and are awesome live! And agreed...if you would have told me thirty years ago that one of my favorite bands would be five cute, petite young ladies dressed in maid outfits, I would've said you were crazy! Gitana Adelle Mr Foster is quite right about them being even better live. They LOVE what they’re doing and being onstage feeling the energy of their fans and playing for them! Don’t get all hung up on language and translations- sure, there are English translations out there, but by nature, it’s a cumbersome thing not near as poetic an experience as just FEELING what it sounds like sonically. Welcome down the rabbit hole. Band-Maid came about because Miku (the rhythm guitarist and backup vocalist) used to work at a maid cafe in Japan. The image is supposed to be a contrast to their sound. As you've probably read on here a hundred times this was their first music video and have gotten even better since then. Their live stuff like "Freedom", "Dominion" and "Play" is good. Their music videos for "Dice", "Non-Fiction Days", "Don't You Tell Me", "Don't Let Me Down" , and "Real Existence" is good as well.
I absolutely love Band-Maid. They are one of my favorite hard rock bands. Almost all of they songs are pure feel-good music. Nice and energetic. You should react to one of their live performances. They are incredible (most say better) live. Loved the reaction (:
On their youtube-channel there are some songs with subtitles, f.e. "Choose me - LIVE"... This was their first video, they are the best LIVE band right now IMO... They are writing their own songs, they are not casted like many other asian bands and you can´t really define their genre: punk, rock, metal, jazz, pop elements and what is pretty unique, they are changing in almost every song the tone of the verses, so "the master and princesses" don´t get bored! You just stumbled across my favourite band in the world. Saw them in London in 2018 and was blown away. They write, arrange and play their own stuff and have real chemistry on stage. You must check out some live tracks try Real Existance or Domination to get a good idea of what they can do.😁
Yesssss!! Back to Jammin'!! Hi Gitana! This was "Band Maid's" first video on RUclips' back in 2015'.. They almost 'Broke-up', then this video took off! They are not a Gimmik'.. Miku' AKA Pigeon'..😁 (the one with Ponytails) worked in a Maid-Themed' Coffee House in Tokyo' and strove to start a band since music was of interest since she was 8. Miku' sang. But she wanted someone with more Sass', and vocal range than herself.. 2013.. Being the last to join the band,.. Saiki' took the leads and went from there.. They are all very talented musicians and Masters' of their Craft. Also, they do look young! But, they are all in their mid, to Late 20's..! So many Great songs,.. Riffs,!.. And.. My first time hearing them as well! I thought they were great! That bass solo was off the freaking chain! The bass guitar is very hard to play with small hands, and she rocked it! They are all musically trained/educationed and were working as session/backing musicians prior to Band-Maid. The maid costumes are for the "Gap" that is popular in Japan. MISA!!!!! MISA!!!!! MISA!!!!!!!!!!! The bands bad ass Bass Assassin. This is an oldie but a goodie from 2014. These musicians have come a long way since. Band-Maid's MV are very good but their Live video are 10 times better. They display much more creative freedom with every song in concert. You get to see that how talented theses ladies are and how much fun they have with each other playing the music they have created. The shock you are feeling is the same reaction we all had our 1st time hearing this band. You were expecting a Pop sound because of the Maid outfits and instead you got punched in the face with their heave Rock tone. In Japan they call this "the gap". The wider "the gap" the better the reaction. They are the best Hard Rock band in the world today. It's like the Rock I grew up with in the 70's. Great drummer, great bass player, great guitarists*, great vocalists, great song writing, great lyrics, and in the last 8 years they've only gotten better. If this video hadn't gone viral in North America, Band-Maid's management had planned on dissolving the band and placing the two vocalists into an "Idol Group" of Maid outfitted singer, dancers: a formula they had experience making work. Band-Maid did not write "Thrill" but they now write, arrange, and produce all their music. "Thrill" is the song and music video that saved Band-Maid and put them on the map and they have produced a huge catalog of music since then. Celine Dion says her voice only goes to "11"; Band-Maids song's are like that: they're ALL GOOD. Just go to their RUclips page and pick songs at random. This band never disappoints and often astonishes. *At the time of this video, Miku Kobato, the rhythm guitar/vocalist could barely play guitar, but the lead guitar, Kanami Tono, who obviously plays extremely well, patiently taught her how to play, and now Miku is a formidable guitarist in her own right with the endorsement of Zemaitis Guitars with her own signature model, the A24MF-FP "Flappy Pigeon"

Nice first time reaction. Band maid are fantastic - best hard rock band on the planet and this was their first release years ago. Next January they are playing Budokan which is a Tokyo arena so that shows how good they are. If you want another girl power shock you seriously have to try Lovebites - The Crusade is my favourite but anything that pops up really.
Forget they're all female. Forget they're dressed as maids. Know that three members (Kanami-Lead, Misa - Bass, Akane - Drums) are classically trained pianists and musicians and that they all have superb skills as well as passion, a lack of ego and the ability to play real, in yer face, Rock which is why they are THE best live Rock band on Earth right now. OK, now that's explained, you can go back and marvel at how cute those outfits look and how incredibly beautiful all the band members are. The only band I've seen that is playing live like bands I went to see in the 70's, such as Led Zeppelin or Sabbath or Zappa. Real guitars, drums and bass played loudly and with passion as well as powerful Rock vocals with not an autotune in sight. They've revived the classic Rock sound and given the genre a much needed kick in the ass, as Babymetal have done for Metal. Check out "Onset" live - it's an instrumental where they all get the chance to showcase their talents a bit while Saiki (singer) rests her voice for a few minutes, or Freedom (live 14/2/20 at Line Cube Shibuya) where they have a great time (smiles aplenty) and the solos are brilliant too. You won't be disappointed. The BAND-MAID journey, first video - you spot the talent levels of one of them - who becomes your favourite. You watch another video where another member gets more of the focus and they become your favourite member......repeat a few more times and then you realise you don't actually have a favourite member now as they are ALL amazing.

Band Maid are probably the most talented group of musicians today. The brilliant lead guitar who writes their material is also a classical pianist; the drummer is rated by Jimmy Page ( Led Zeppelin) as amongst the best in the world and the rest are at the top of their game. They manage to project all the power of hard rock but in a more creative way and without the silly mannerisms adopted by many. They are the best!
You just got "Gap'd".....and it was an intentional on the band's part. "The Gap" is a concept that the band was based on; it's the mental dissonance you get between the clash of what you see (and expect to hear) vs what you actually hear. It can be jarring (in a good way) and gets you hooked rather quickly. Brilliant on the band's part.

1972cd is right. Listen to them live and you won't believe what you hear. They are probably the best or at least one of the best live bands on the planet today. More female Japanese bands: Aldious, Love Bites, Mary's Blood. There are others that will stun your sensibilities although I have to say Band Maid is my absolute favorite.
Band Maid in their infancy when they played music written by others! They were good, but now they are great (players and composers). The lead guitarist and main composer (Kanami), bass player (Misa), and drummer (Akane) have been playing since they could walk, and have a lot of musical training in their background. The rhythm guitarist, second singer, lyricist, and founder (Miku) was just learning to play guitar, and the vocalist (Saiki) was really young and hadn't developed the confidence that she has today. After the initial shock, I listened to this song constantly for days, along with all their other songs that I could find. “Thrill” is pretty much their first video released and started the buzz going. Band Maid have since improved dramatically since and, as far as I’m concerned, is the best band of the 21st century. Spoiler alert! I have yet to come across a song that isn’t good and so many more are excellent. Be warned, Band Maid is an addiction.
You just reacted to their first hit single which was released in 2015 ;). Their newer stuff has quite a few surprises. Freedom (live from this past February) will show you just how talented all 5 band members are in a live setting. Akane, the drummer, may just be one of the top drummers in the world today IMHO. Also, they released a new song earlier this year called The Dragon Cries with Saiki singing the entire song in English.

Loved the video! It's always a blast watching someone's first time reaction to this band, especially this particular song because Thrill was also my first song from this band back n 2015 after stumbling onto that same video and have been a major fan since that day. Your reaction to Kanami Tono's solo was so epic and reminded me of myself 5 years ago but trust me, listen to more of them because she kills it so much harder on so many more tracks. Also, check out live performances too and if u ever have the opportunity, please check them out live n person because they'll blow u away!! They're killer, can play and have major talent, all of them. They're part of my short list of bands who actually sound better live and if I don't like how a band sounds live, meaning they don't sound as good or better than their studio recordings, then I don't listen to them anymore because to me, that's false advertising. I've been a Band Maid fan for a couple years, a bit different kind of fan since I'm a 70 year old bass player. I do, however, have a very different suggestion for you, the Wagakki Band. They amaze me the way they combine the usual modern instruments with traditional instruments, Shakuhatchi, Kodo, Shamizen and add traditional vocal elements. Truely a unique sound and very talented group.
They're awesome. They sing mainly in Japanese, but almost always with some English thrown in. Hyperbole is common with fans, obviously, but if you check out more of their music, there's a couple of things you will find: 1) Their music, especially their choruses, make you happy. Listening to them picks up your mood. 2) They're the best hard rock band in the world in 2020.
Band-Maid is the best Hard Rock band anywhere. Japan has for sure over few dozen all female bands that are good to listen to. For best guitar playing lookup Lovebites, they are the best power metal band out there. For soft rock, ska, punk, grunge lookup Scandal. After that you will probably be flooded with at least a dozen more all female Japanese bands. The three mentioned play, perform and compose better than 90% of male groups especially their live stages, which are even better than studio versions. I'm male and for a while now Japanese all female groups is what I mostly listen to. No, not because they are Asian, cute, gorgeous, tiny, but because their musicianship is at a higher level. Ok ... doesn't hurt to see all the other things too, much better than bearded men.

This hammers you right in the noggin right from the outset .... I'll never forget the first time I heard it. This ain't no "baby metal" this is no Fucking around bad ass.
I have to admit, when I first heard Band Maid, it was love at first site. I was a young adult in the 80's when rock/metal ruled the musical world. These girls bring back the melody that was lost in the 90's onward. Musicianship is great and their song writing is even better. I love what they are doing musically in Japan....an incredible rock scene and a big glam rock scene as well. All the traditional rules go out the window in Japan....maybe that's why they are leading the way musically in the rock world. It is funny that the only thing new in an almost dead genre of music is coming from Japanese women....and even Japanese teenagers. Band Maid is what true female empowerment looks like....they are not trying to be, or compete with men....they are incredible on their own without losing their femininity. You have stepped into the world of Japanese rock/metal....there are many more surprises and many more talented groups to see.

Thrill was their very first MV and they were like 20-23 at the time in 2014. They have only got better and. you may not beleive this, but they are even better live. And agreed...if you would have told me thirty years ago that one of my favorite bands would be five cute, petite young ladies dressed in maid outfits, I would've said you were crazy! Yet...here we are! This was their debut video shot back in 2014. They're really much more of a live band though. Mr Foster is quite right about them being even better live. They LOVE what they’re doing and being onstage feeling the energy of their fans and playing for them! Don’t get all hung up on language and translations- sure, there are English translations out there, but by nature, it’s a cumbersome thing not near as poetic an experience as just FEELING what it sounds like sonically. Welcome down the rabbit hole. Band-Maid came about because Miku (the rhythm guitarist and backup vocalist) used to work at a maid cafe in Japan. The image is supposed to be a contrast to their sound. As you've probably read on here a hundred times this was their first music video and have gotten even better since then. Their live stuff like "Freedom", "Dominion" and "Play" is good. Their music videos for "Dice", "Non-Fiction Days", "Don't You Tell Me", "Don't Let Me Down" , and "Real Existence" is good as well.

On their youtube-channel there are some songs with subtitles, f.e. "Choose me - LIVE"... This was their first video, they are the best LIVE band right now IMO... They are writing their own songs, they are not casted like many other asian bands and you can´t really define their genre: punk, rock, metal, jazz, pop elements and what is pretty unique, they are changing in almost every song the tone of the verses, so "the master and princesses" don´t get bored! This was "Band Maid's" first video on RUclips' back in 2015'.. They almost 'Broke-up', then this video took off!
They are not a Gimmik'.. Miku' AKA Pigeon'..😁 (the one with Ponytails) worked in a Maid-Themed' Coffee House in Tokyo' and strove to start a band since music was of interest since she was 8.
Miku' sang. But she wanted someone with more Sass', and vocal range than herself.. 2013.. Being the last to join the band,.. Saiki' took the leads and went from there.. They are all very talented musicians and Masters' of their Craft. Also, they do look young! But, they are all in their mid, to Late 20's..! So many Great songs,.. Riffs,!.. And.. I don't need to know what they're sayin,.. I LOVE em!

I like listening to female Japanese singers even though I don't know what they are saying. The females singers sound better then their male counter parts.

They are all musically trained/educationed and were working as session/backing musicians prior to Band-Maid. The maid costumes are for the "Gap" that is popular in Japan. The gap being what you see "demure maids" vs what you are hearing Hard Rock. They compose the music, write the lyrics, do the arrangement, and produce the songs.

You were expecting a Pop sound because of the Maid outfits and instead you got punched in the face with their heave Rock tone. In Japan they call this "the gap". Great drummer, great bass player, great guitarists*, great vocalists, great song writing, great lyrics, and in the last 8 years they've only gotten better. If this video hadn't gone viral in North America, Band-Maid's management had planned on dissolving the band and placing the two vocalists into an "Idol Group" of Maid outfitted singer, dancers: a formula they had experience making work. Band-Maid did not write "Thrill" but they now write, arrange, and produce all their music. "Thrill" is the song and music video that saved Band-Maid and put them on the map and they have produced a huge catalog of music since then. Celine Dion says her voice only goes to "11"; Band-Maids song's are like that: they're ALL GOOD. Just go to their RUclips page and pick songs at random. This band never disappoints and often astonishes.

Nice first time reaction. Band maid are fantastic - best hard rock band on the planet and this was their first release years ago. Next January they are playing Budokan which is a Tokyo arena so that shows how good they are. If you want another girl power shock you seriously have to try Lovebites - The Crusade is my favourite but anything that pops up really.

Forget they're all female. Forget they're dressed as maids. Know that three members (Kanami-Lead, Misa - Bass, Akane - Drums) are classically trained pianists and musicians and that they all have superb skills as well as passion, a lack of ego and the ability to play real, in yer face, Rock which is why they are THE best live Rock band on Earth right now. OK, now that's explained, you can go back and marvel at how cute those outfits look and how incredibly beautiful all the band members are. The only band I've seen that is playing live like bands I went to see in the 70's, such as Led Zeppelin or Sabbath or Zappa. Real guitars, drums and bass played loudly and with passion as well as powerful Rock vocals with not an autotune in sight. They've revived the classic Rock sound and given the genre a much needed kick in the ass, as Babymetal have done for Metal. Check out "Onset" live - it's an instrumental where they all get the chance to showcase their talents a bit while Saiki (singer) rests her voice for a few minutes, or Freedom (live 14/2/20 at Line Cube Shibuya) where they have a great time (smiles aplenty) and the solos are brilliant too. You won't be disappointed.
The BAND-MAID journey, first video - you spot the talent levels of one of them - who becomes your favourite. You watch another video where another member gets more of the focus and they become your favourite member......repeat a few more times and then you realise you don't actually have a favourite member now as they are ALL amazing.
Yes! Finally some band maid! Absolutly love this band! All 5 woman in this band are awesome, you have to see a live performance next! Freedom (live) is one of my personal favourites.
And this is before the labels let them use their own material too. They were really limited to what they could do at the time. It only goes way way way way way up from here. They are quite possibly the most talented group out there. From instruments, to writing, structure, music theory, lyrics, they are unmatched. And down the Pigeon hole we go!

Band Maid are probably the most talented group of musicians today. The brilliant lead guitar who writes their material is also a classical pianist; the drummer is rated by Jimmy Page ( Led Zeppelin) as amongst the best in the world and the rest are at the top of their game. They manage to project all the power of hard rock but in a more creative way and without the silly mannerisms adopted by many. They are the best!

You just got "Gap'd".....and it was an intentional on the band's part. "The Gap" is a concept that the band was based on; it's the mental dissonance you get between the clash of what you see (and expect to hear) vs what you actually hear. It can be jarring (in a good way) and gets you hooked rather quickly. Brilliant on the band's part.

BAND-MAID is an addiction! You NEED to check out ONSET and FREEDOM, both live performances. You don't need to understand what they are saying to enjoy it.
1972cd is right. Listen to them live and you won't believe what you hear. They are probably the best or at least one of the best live bands on the planet today. More female Japanese bands: Aldious, Love Bites, Mary's Blood. There are others that will stun your sensibilities although I have to say Band Maid is my absolute favorite.
Band Maid in their infancy when they played music written by others! They were good, but now they are great (players and composers). The lead guitarist and main composer (Kanami), bass player (Misa), and drummer (Akane) have been playing since they could walk, and have a lot of musical training in their background. The rhythm guitarist, second singer, lyricist, and founder (Miku) was just learning to play guitar, and the vocalist (Saiki) was really young and hadn't developed the confidence that she has today. Great reaction. 3 years ago or so, I had a similar reaction. After the initial shock, I listened to this song constantly for days, along with all their other songs that I could find. “Thrill” is pretty much their first video released and started the buzz going. Band Maid have since improved dramatically since and, as far as I’m concerned, is the best band of the 21st century. Spoiler alert! I have yet to come across a song that isn’t good and so many more are excellent. Be warned, Band Maid is an addiction.

You just reacted to their first hit single which was released in 2015 ;). Their newer stuff has quite a few surprises. Freedom (live from this past February) will show you just how talented all 5 band members are in a live setting. Akane, the drummer, may just be one of the top drummers in the world today IMHO. Also, they released a new song earlier this year called The Dragon Cries with Saiki singing the entire song in English.

Loved the video! It's always a blast watching someone's first time reaction to this band, especially this particular song because Thrill was also my first song from this band back n 2015 after stumbling onto that same video and have been a major fan since that day. Your reaction to Kanami Tono's solo was so epic and reminded me of myself 5 years ago but trust me, listen to more of them because she kills it so much harder on so many more tracks. Also, check out live performances too and if u ever have the opportunity, please check them out live n person because they'll blow u away!! They're killer, can play and have major talent, all of them. They're part of my short list of bands who actually sound better live and if I don't like how a band sounds live, meaning they don't sound as good or better than their studio recordings, then I don't listen to them anymore because to me, that's false advertising. I've been a Band Maid fan for a couple years, a bit different kind of fan since I'm a 70 year old bass player. I do, however, have a very different suggestion for you, the Wagakki Band. They amaze me the way they combine the usual modern instruments with traditional instruments, Shakuhatchi, Kodo, Shamizen and add traditional vocal elements. Truely a unique sound and very talented group.

They're awesome. They sing mainly in Japanese, but almost always with some English thrown in. Hyperbole is common with fans, obviously, but if you check out more of their music, there's a couple of things you will find: 1) Their music, especially their choruses, make you happy. Listening to them picks up your mood. 2) They're the best hard rock band in the world in 2020.
Band-Maid is the best Hard Rock band anywhere. Japan has for sure over few dozen all female bands that are good to listen to. For best guitar playing lookup Lovebites, they are the best power metal band out there. For soft rock, ska, punk, grunge lookup Scandal. After that you will probably be flooded with at least a dozen more all female Japanese bands. The three mentioned play, perform and compose better than 90% of male groups especially their live stages, which are even better than studio versions. I'm male and for a while now Japanese all female groups is what I mostly listen to. No, not because they are Asian, cute, gorgeous, tiny, but because their musicianship is at a higher level. Ok ... doesn't hurt to see all the other things too, much better than bearded men.
I truly love these girls, that heavy 80's rock and roll beat.

In Japan alone there are several similarly talented female bands.
I have to admit, when I first heard Band Maid, it was love at first site. I was a young adult in the 80's when rock/metal ruled the musical world. These girls bring back the melody that was lost in the 90's onward. Musicianship is great and their song writing is even better. I love what they are doing musically in Japan....an incredible rock scene and a big glam rock scene as well. All the traditional rules go out the window in Japan....maybe that's why they are leading the way musically in the rock world. It is funny that the only thing new in an almost dead genre of music is coming from Japanese women....and even Japanese teenagers. Band Maid is what true female empowerment looks like....they are not trying to be, or compete with men....they are incredible on their own without losing their femininity. You have stepped into the world of Japanese rock/metal....there are many more surprises and many more talented groups to see.
