Kmart Hollywood has closed. Finally shutting the doors after 30 years plus. Lets go inside and explore!
Thank you for the video. I’m not from LA but noticed this building when I moved here January 2020. Surprisingly enough, it’s being demolished as I post this. Just drove past and the roof/top floor section is already gone. 😮
This is the last Kmart I set foot in. Bought my sons school uniforms from here - great prices. Maybe like 2012/2013
I lived this Kmart, I use to come here a lot with my grandma, parents and friend when I was a kid. This video gave me so much nostalgia and made me a bit sad and wish I could go back one more time
Thank you for your video. Loved your presentation of it. And, although the store's interiors and exteriors were remodeled probably after the 1990s or during the 2000s, my first job was at this K-mart branch store (#7225) located on 3rd & Fairfax from 1987 to 1990. I began as a cashier in 1987 and promoted to the Camera & Jewelry Department. Odd department to place those two wares together. Didn't know squat about jewelry, but knew a lot about cameras. I still remember: the Blue Light Specials, the Christmas shopping season (no one wanted to work in the toy department especially closing time) and the once Britts-owned Windmill Restaurant (then I referred to it as a classy diner adjacent to the store) where I went for my lunch period to order their delicious apple pie and other meals! In 1990, when I notified management I was going back to college, they offered me the management position of the department. I turned it down. That job taught me discipline, commitment and responsibility...and I was ready to tackle college again.
Hi Edwin, Do you remember a Filipino guy about 20 named Omar that worked in the Kmart restaurant in 1990?
I would shop here, I miss it. And I would go to little Caesar’s too. It was a huge Kmart with a downstairs. Always busy.
My mother and stepfather worked in the Kmart cafeteria for years in the 1970s at this exact same location. How sad it's over I'm 51 years old now they're still alive.I remember going there as a child and getting green jello in the cafeteria my mom a waitress and my srep dad a dishwasher that's where they met and stayed together for 40+ years.. I bought my son a $20 stroller in 1998 he's now 25 years old so sad to see it closed. My mom used to take ne to Eugene's store next door to buy me rabbits foot. Little did I know it's exactly what it was a real colored rabbit's foot.I feel terrible now as an adult knowing what it was An ACTUAL RABBITS FOOT However, as a kid I did not know better.I also used to get my prescriptions at the Save On until the mid 2000s. Memories so sad days gone by never to return
I couldn't believe a Kmart was in such a hip area next to Whole Foods and across Farmers Market and The Grove.
Does anyone remember a Filipino guy in his 20's named Omar that worked in the Diner / Restaurant that was in the center of this Kmart store in 1990? 😃
OLDSCHOOL K-MART

no problem. im happy you enjoyed it. thats why i film it
Nicely done--particularly appreciated the historical (and projected future) context. Like you, lots of nostalgia surrounding this place. Decades ago, I furnished many of the basics for my first apartment in Hollywood with goods from this store. Particularly since the opening of The Grove, this Kmart has been amazingly incongruous (both in terms of the outdated vibe & clientele) with the surrounding neighborhood, which is why I used to enjoy traversing the time warp periodically. Only minor disappointment in the tour is that you didn't mention the ubiquitous, overpowering stench of sewage that always emanated from the basement level. In online customer reviews, almost everyone pointed it out & faulted the store. It was actually beyond their control, as it is methane gas from the surrounding underground field of tar & oil that envelopes this whole neighborhood of LA. The Ross store across Ogden had a methane explosion in 1985 . .by grace, while the store was closed.
Thanks born and raised in LA, grew up near here, many memories of this store and entire mall... There used to be a cafeteria inside of it (that was gross, but my dad loved it). Thanks for this!
I think it’s been 30 years since I’ve been to a Kmart.
Its funny how Kmart has kinda faded away. Erased from memory like a slow burn.
Awesome video
When I went to LA, I was surprised how big the store was and all kinds of products, a shame they closed it
Ariana Grande
Anything within the "30 mile zone" (TMZ) is classified as a local production, so it doesn't include travel reimbursements and mandatory overnights and hotels for the workers, as per union rules.
The tower isn’t happening because of the elementary school, everyone in the neighborhood is fighting it. Also I have some videos inside the abandoned Kmart the door isn’t locked
would love to see you videos of this kmart you got.
I remember there was a rumor saying it was becoming a different store and that whole plot of land was becoming a mall
🥺
Great video
