Whoever thought of putting these two together is a genius! The rest is enlightenment
Couldn't agree more
You are absolutely correct!
"Your pipe work's useless."
"Thank you but I'm seeing a specialist." 🤣
Richard Osman is quick today!
Oh, my question made it onto the episode! That's made my whole week 😊 so cool!
Gah! I wish the question and answer episodes were twice as long! Feels like they've barely scratched the surface before it's over. Love the show.
Common knowledge among ‘The Chase’ fans but here’s another.. Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis was a contestant on The Chase before landing a spot as a Chaser.
Just jumping in here with another celebrity that made it on both versions - Alex Horne.
He was a civilian on Countdown before Taskmaster, and later would be on 8 out of 10 cats version.
As for in America, a famous one would also be Kathy Najimi who was on $100,000 Pyramid and later be the celebrity guest on a couple reboots.
(And I wish I could go through the laundry list of celebrities who were on game shows before making it big, but many weren't on a celebrity version of the same show.)
Does Aaron Paul guesting on The Price is Right after appearing decades later, count?
You could argue that Catsdown isn't the same show as regular Countdown. It's not really a celeb version of the regular show.
I was in a room with someone while I was watching The Rest is Enterainment. They started to talk so I paused it. I think this will be my new measure of what is essential RUclips viewing.
I enjoy Richard correcting Marina everytime and saying “It’s questions AND answers” showing Richard’s background in strictly formatted television. But now the correction is part of the format. Good fun.
It’s the signature now if say
I feel like Marina is tying herself up by actively trying to forget to say it now!!
I was recently watching an interview with Timothy Dalton where he was asked what he did to get in shape for his role as Bond, and he just said “I didn’t”. Compare that to Daniel Craig who had a complete physical transformation. And it’s not just about oh poor old actors having to go to the gym, it’s about the men and boys watching who think those bodies are normal and achievable for the average person without expensive and time consuming workout regimes (and probably also steroids or something similar).
I've never been a Bond fan so Timothy Dalton wasn't really on my radar until Hot Fuzz.
Fan-bloody-tastic!
@@HJJSL-bl8kkHe’s a slasher…..of prices
These days a lot of hollywood actors are basically bodybuilders most of the time and then every so often you do a bit of acting.
"That's where all the lawyers' offices are" 🤣
Blows my mind the encyclopaedic knowledge of these two!
It’s the magic of movies/tv/podcasts when they know the questions and research before the show
They research before hand (but they’re both smart and entertaining)
Another brilliant and enjoyable video. How did the two of them get together? It’s just a genius mix of smart people talking about the media - (my passion for 50 odd years and as a former freelancer on BBC radio, who met a lot of his rock heroes.)
2024 this has turned out to be one of my favourite podcasts.
A good friend of ours is an actress and got a part as a cabinet minister in Love Actually. She sits next to Hugh Grant in one scene. Unfortunately her only lines ended up on the cutting room floor.
Great to hear the knowledge and appreciation of the technical craft (and graft) of screen acting from Marina and Richard here! Re - actors’ marks, if it’s not possible to spot your T mark, they will put down a long bean bag for your feet, known as a “sausage”. Causes a lot of raised eyebrows for US actors when a UK 1st AD offers them a sausage at 3pm…
15:39: 😂 Such a funny & informative show from the Dynamic Duo :)
Luv the Thursday show😊
Also Jade Goody did Celebrity Big Brother after becoming famous from being on Big Brother
We binged Mr. Bates vs. the Post Office on PBS here in the States, and I then got stuck into looking up the inquiry hearings. Fabulous show!
2 minutes! Can't wait to get stuck into this
I loved the comments about "See You Next Tuesday." Thank goodness the tow of you came down on the side of sense. At the very worst it's a "Carry On" moment. See you next Tuesday.
Funnily enough I was watching an old episode of Charmed, and in one scene the T mark on the floor was clearly visible, which made me chuckle.
Little Alex Horne was on regular Countdown, and became a recurring guest on Cats Does Countdown.
I love how Little Alex Horne is how he has become known!
Marina "redo me now".
❤
Re non-famous people getting famous and reappearing on the celebrity versions of these shows/celebrities appearing on non-celeb editions: I’m thinking of Stephen Fry. He appeared on University Challenge as a student before his own TV work , and I think returned as a celeb later. I’m also pretty sure he was on the regular mastermind (and not the celeb one). Please correct me if I’m wrong.
I think university challenge does whole episodes of people who appeared as students who went on to excel in their chosen fields. Some of whom work in media
Brilliant - My favourite RUclips channel bar none (and I "do You Tube" for a living, and therefore watch a lot of it).....
Cee yoU Next Tuesday guys 🤣
I read years ago that "Keeping up appearances" was the Beeb's best selling TV show around the world - not sure if that fact still is true, tho.
You mention Survivor. It's actually based on a Swedish show called "Expedition Robinson", which predates it by three years or so. It's still shown there to this day. The American series is now on season 46. There's over 230 worldwide.
I think we really need to start asking the question WHY has making TV shows/film become so expensive?? Salaries in actual production -sound/vision/mixing/CGI are all going down (relatively), whereas salaries in management, senior producers, top tier talent has gone through the roof. This of course mirrors most other industry in the anglo western economies. Where's the value for money? The BBC used to produce a lot of their own content in their own studios. They have done the classic move of privatising their own pipeline to buy it back at inflated prices (with the money presumably disappearing into profit somewhere)..See BBC studios..A friend's husband was a desktop surveyor working directly for the council on £42k ..now he has a private consultancy hired by the council and he's on £110k for the same job/service..This is almost certainly the case in the entertainment industry with all the talent seemingly having their own production companies instead of working as employees of the Beeb.
Question: How do you feel about saying series vs season?
Saw a recording of if I ruled the world back in the 90s. I quite liked it but it sort of became mock the week which was faster and snappier. Some eps available to see on RUclips.
Brilliant as usual. 😂
Im surprised they didn’t mention Jade Goody going back for celebrity big brother for people doing normal and celebrity versions of shows
Big brother has many people. But they basically regard anyone who’s been on reality TV as a celeb.
Alex Horne from Taskmaster won the normal countdown and was then on 8 out of 10 cats countdown..!!
ivo graham too, i believe? mentioned somewhere he appeared on both regular and celeb the weakest link
Obviously they’re slightly different shows, but Alex Horne has been a contestant on the normal Countdown and been in Dictionary Corner on Cats does Countdown
Can't access the Monday episode in Australia (neither on YT or the various podcast platforms). Can a producer please check on the permissions for that episode?
Monday? Tuesdays and Thursdays, UK time.
@@HJJSL-bl8kkwell the Tuesday one then. 😒
It’s still available on apple podcasts
@@Est-os9ycah, that explains it.
I cannot unsee the picture of Richard at 15:47 🙂
Is Marina's camera a lower resolution to the other two? It looks a much lower quality to me.
Could you explain why the BBC won’t make their enormous back catalogue available for streaming. I recently subscribed to BritBox to get a nostalgia hit, but was very disappointed by the very small amount of shows.
About celebrities going on normal versions of a show, Luca Brecel went on a Belgian quizshow like that after his world championship win.
I'm curious where Marina keeps gawping off to left of camera, whereas Rich either looks at his paperwork or her.
Where are you staring and yapping, Marina?
After you Olly Murrs comment, Simon Cowell decades ago appeared in Sale of the Century as a contestant
Lots of examples of celebs on game shows before they were famous. Aaron Paul was on The Price Is Right, and Stephen Merchant was on Blockbusters
OMG we in the USA are interested in the British Post Office tragedy and other British shows. was upset now I have to join Disney to watch Doctor Who
Has there been any instances of a contestant winning money/holiday/prizes on a TV show but not receiving it after the fact (for whatever reason)? Are there rules to protect this?
What does a producer actually do? And is an executive producer more senior than someone credited as just a producer?
I feel like these provide sanity after observing the current political landscape 😂
Johnny Vegas was on Win, Lose or Draw before he was famous
Yay, Marina mentioned the mysterious "show I'm working on" again. One of many, apparently.
Yeah, she does have jobs.
I don't think he's ever appeared on the celebrity version, but Stephen Fry was on University Challenge back in 1980.
He was also on The Young Ones spoof version ! ruclips.net/video/uEuk8PNjm8E/видео.html
He was on the 'Young Ones' version though 😁
Stephen Fry was on a celebrity University Challenge for Comic Relief
ruclips.net/video/wgslOeOgnaA/видео.html
He did appear on n a celebrity version as well
Stephen Fry was on the celebrity University Challenge for Comic Relief

The zooming in is bad, the resolution getting low enough to see pixels!!
Survivor might be created by a brit, but it first aired in Sweden. Not sure who has the ip though. If it is Charlie or Strix television.
Wil Wheaton was almost completely cut out of the last TNG movie. you see him briefly in the background but his speaking scenes were cut
He was nearly completely cut out of Generations. He should have been cut out completely because his appearance doesn't make sense, but at least they got him to shut up.
@@GothamClive yeah, it didn't make sense for him to be in a starfleet uniform, especially given his appearance in Picard.
Does Richard Osman have the sole title to the answers of Q&A, Marina just the questions? 😂
The questions… and answers episodes need to be longer. I’m mad now.
It's interesting that Survivor was originally such a huge hit. It went off air in the UK for about 20 years, and the recent reboot was a bit of a flop. I think I read it lost money?
It wasn't a huge hit here I believe but was in the US where is still going
Wnat"s happemed to Tuesdays episode. Did you have to take it down for 'legal reasons'.
ruclips.net/video/3LOS5TtxmMs/видео.html Still there for me!
On the cooking type shows would it not be better to show where they have finished with decent amount of time left so that when you legitimately show someone panicking with a minute to go it will be genuinely stressful.
As it is it’s just, yeah, ok, they clearly still have rice to boil and no time to do it in but next minute, oh look, it’s on the plate.
Certainly they often show when someone has finished with a lot of time to go. This then helps explains any shots where they are helping other contestants or having a cup of tea in the background but also feeds in to the typical judge’s comments about not having done enough work. On a show like Masterchef you can spot the set up a mile away:
“What might go wrong in this round John?”
“The contestants might not be ambitious enough.”
Terry has finished his pavlova with twenty minutes to go.
“Terry your pavlova is okay but you weren’t ambitious enough, you could have done a lot more work in the time available.”
yeah, good point. The old “he’s trying to create a fusion of flavours which don’t seem to go together, I’m not sure they will.”
“David, I’m not sure these combinations of flavours have worked.”
I do agree they do sometimes show those who’ve finished early and they often, perhaps necessarily, show bakers on bake off sitting around while their creation, well, bakes. But they always have at least one person who pretty much runs out of time which may be true but can’t believe it’s always the case.
@@siohmy they certainly like to ramp up the jeopardy element of it. One of the things I like about Richard Osman on House of Games is that he will point out when there is basically no jeopardy left (although playing for a onesie or a fondue set the stakes aren’t particularly high).
I’m sure Jade Goody did big brother then Celeb Big Brother
But is it a game show? :D
@@mytube001yes.
Johnny Vegas - Win, Lose or Draw(1996)
Johnny Vegas before fame on Win Lose or Draw with Danny Baker under his real name
amoursa?
How do reality shows that are on the surface about illegal activities, such as moonshiners or street outlaws (both on discovery) navigate this? Dont the local law enforcement watch these shows?
Simple. The shows are fake. Apparently, the authorities have asked Moonshiners to add a disclaimer saying it isn't real but have been ignored.
Everything on discovery is fake.
I wonder how much Mr Bates is making from its DVD release.
Christopher lee was one of the greatest actors of all time and was cut from the third Lord of the rings....it happens 🤷🤷
mY REAL COMPLAINT IS THESE ARE TOO SHORT :)
Smashing a shot of tequila for every "By and large"
Play along at home.
Terrence Malick is infamous for cutting performances. He is so hardcore that he could film his wife giving birth and then cut her out because the film was better without her.
Can you cry on demand? - people ask
Yes, you're saying that the amount of effort I'm using every single day to hold back the tears I can let go of it for a brief moment.
You're the Emo-Hulk. Your secret is you're always sad.
Apparently Trump told a lawyer in a deposition that he would see her next Tuesday. She was only told by a colleague after they left what he meant 🤣
The makers of Mr Bean must need a lorry to carry all the money they make around the world
First 😂
02:40 Come on Richard, no rounding up. There are not 200 countries in the world that watch Attenborough documentaries. There aren't even 200 countries!
Ana De Armas should consider herself lucky to have been cut from 'Yesterday'. One of the worst films I've ever watched ...almost to the end.
In the gym 😂 and the additional medicinal help, actors such a hard life....try working 40 hrs a week on minimal wage, get real.
Listening to these two you'd think they were coordinating a moon landing or working as a principle designer on a large construction project. But you know it's not what you know, it's who you know!
