Great song, I was amazed I could understand about half of it by being a native german speaker while I understand only a third in dutch although that‘s a distant german dialect with afrikaans being a „dialect“ of a dialect. „Roer“ I know because of Karl May who wrote „Der Boer van het Roer“ it‘s „Rohr“ in deutsch/german and means pipe and also barrel for your „geweer“ / „Gewehr“ / „gun“
Deutsch and Afrikaans are very similar indeed. Afrikaans is a mix between some Germanic languages I think

Colonialism is a mixed bag, but irrelevant since Boers are not colonialists, but natives. Monotheism is the truth and I'll grant the rest as being bad.

Southafrica belongs to Zulu, Venda, Xhosa, Saan, Khoi-Khoi, etc, etc, etc not to English and Boers.
