  • Basse Dance from "Dancerye"
Tielman Susato (c. 1510/15-1570) was a notable Renaissance composer, instrumentalist, and music publisher. He was born in Soest in present-day Germany but spent much of his professional life in Antwerp, which was a major center of commerce and culture during his time.
Tielman Susato's "Danserye" from 1551 is a significant collection of Renaissance dance music. Among the many types of dances included in this collection, the basse dance, or "low dance," is notable. The basse dance was a popular court dance during the late Medieval and early Renaissance periods, characterized by its slow, graceful movements, and performed with gliding steps. It was considered an elegant and stately dance.

Very beautifully played. Thank you for the perfect description of the history of this song and the introduction of the author. I can imagine people dancing together to this beautiful tune in the Renaissance period.🌟Eva
