    I had '50 Willy's pickup in my 20s. I made a lot of money with it. It had a 232 AMC straight 6 in it. The rest was stock. I hauled firewood, fence posts and stays for barbed wire fence materials for ranches.

    I don't know... This truck is extremely cool as it is!!! I would not mess with it. Just make it better for operating in town (better tires, brakes, fix what is not working, etc). Someone has already made some changes to it, looks like wheel spacers, seats, the V6 motor. But the character is still there. The V-6 motor, if it is a Buick motor, is it the motor that ended up in the Jeepster? That would be the Dauntless 225 Buick V6, 160 HP, 235 ft-lb, and odd fire.

    Can't wait for this one! Love old Willys!

  • @dgiorgi1725

    In my opinion I would leave it. The V-6 Buick was a nice swap as they started to use these engines in 65 and they have 150 HP and work well in the truck. I did a swap like this in a 64 Willy truck. Check and see the gear ratio, mine had 5: 36 in it I think but with 35 inch tires she could run at high way speeds ok. Just clear coat it cause the body is nice, throw a set of 33" tires under it and enjoy it. I would even leave the interior as it is but fix the broken glass. These trucks look mean as they are. I had an original 62, wish I could post pictures because that truck looked aggressive. Have fun with it and enjoy.

    Sure is a cute little truck Workhorses back in the day, those little Buick Dauntless v6s are diehards too. Very stout engines Torque Monsters!
    I'd says just fix it up a bit, add heat/get it working, some nice tires and redo the suspension you'll be golden.
    The Reason how the V6 came about is it was first made for NASCAR and went on from there to being used in automobiles Got one in my Pontiac.

    Do an old school lifted truck type theme. Old school rims and kc lights, bright colored shocks and chrome here and there. 4bt Cummins would be an amazing swap on it. Old school lifted trucks rolling some coal. 👌🏼👍🏼

    Sell it to me and leave it alone. Let it live the way it was born.

  • @matthewt8601
    @matthewt8601 7 лет назад

    Prerunner. Put a mild lift in, 3-6 inches, and 35s, but leave the suspension soft(ish.) Leave the exterior mostly stock, maybe black out the grille/lower portions (underneath), and if you add lights, make them sutdle (on the bumper? behind the grille?), don't slap on light bars and ruin the look. Then swap in a newer crate motor, so that it's driveable, fast, fun, and cool as hell. Think about what you'll use it for, mild offroading (not mudding), backroad fun and sunday drives. Add little touches you feel are needed, but I say give it a mild lift and make it fast. You'll have the most fun/get the most use out of it that way.

    It won’t let me post a picture, but I put mine on an s10 chassis with Camaro 350, 5 speed, camaro rear end, slammed to the ground, chopped the top 7”, corvette tires & wheels, it’s almost done!

    I have a friend who’s dad built plenty of old Willys pick ups, One of them is a 1952 original frame small block 350 Chevy engine and 1 ton Chevy axles he also has a 55 Willys pick up sitting on a 80s era Chevy short wide chassis small block 350 turbo 400 and 1ton/three-quarter ton axles.

    Keep it as original as possible, if you want it for lite off road and pleasure use, decent radio, A/C-Heater, do take it apart clean and paint frame, body panels, replace weather stripping, have the engine gone through, rebuild, repair, as required, check differentials, replace Gear OIL and seals upgrade all lubricants to Synthetic oil and grease and maybe Power Steering, the more complex you make a Simple Truck of Simple Design, the worst it will be, when it breaks down

  • @jackpaul7215
    @jackpaul7215 7 лет назад

    I think you may be able to put some 33's on it stock. But if I had to guess it probably shares all the suspension components of the Cj. I would either level it stock and put bigger tires on it or find a 2.5" lift with 33's or 35's. If I'm right about it using the same parts as a cj just on a different frame you should be able to find parts.

  • @thefeared4545
    @thefeared4545 7 лет назад

    What I would do is brace the frame, put dana 60 front with 14 bolt rear, lift it, add bigger tiers(not huge), and put an automatic transmission in it.

  • @mschiffel1
    @mschiffel1 6 лет назад

    First of all, don't paint it ! Make it safe, (steering, disc brake upgrade, not overly big tires, and a nice lift) and just drive it as is...If you're gonna go off roading, a PowerTrax locker in the rear axle will get you through almost anything...Be sure you get a locker !

    • @mschiffel1
      @mschiffel1 6 лет назад

      P.S....the 1950s steering and drivetrain is just fine...if everything is rebuilt and in good shape....Frame swaps are a lot of work and you'll spend more time fixing it than driving it.

    got a 49 all original take it back or well make it like you want mine will stay original thought of it as a lowrider but heck has the 4 wheel drive will put my cheech and chong booble heads in the back window put a sunvisor on it. found it for 1,500 here in Klamath Falls,OR two years ago runs great needs a fuel line glass,upostery, those turn signals under headlights replace the bumper up front is intence kinda like yours but heaver gauge and a little taller stock hit something with this puppy right. otherwise is orange and paint chipping and people like it the way it is me myself would at least like to see it in primer thought of a star on the door od green at one time but don't know yet found one here on youtube white mine is the same paint code.plus wanted my wheels red with beauty rings so well got to see today what my truck would look like stock

    Use a Wagoner frame with right side drive front axel. Gives you power steering + you can get disc brakes and rear 44 axel. Better turning radius. You can use a 360 or a 400 and automatic. Automatic are always better for off-roading and the turbo 400 is bullet proof. You want a rocket ship, put a Cadillac 500 in there. Only a little heavier than a small block Chevy and almost the same physical size. Tons of torque + hp. Much much better engine than a big block Chevy and a lot lighter. I have never wasted my time on big block Chevys. Kaddys

    Its a survivor why ruin it by modding it like everyone elses shit?
    It sits perfect. 5 omix repop Willys Combat wheels. Paintem WW2 od green or flatblack. Full set of tall skinny 215 85 16 Mud tires like Cooper stt pros. Detail the hubs peaking thru the wheels.
    Find Herm the overdrive guy. Overdrive that pig and lock rights in both axles. What axles does it have? You may want to one piece axle full float convert the rear if its an early D44 in rear. Herms got that covered as well.
