Florence, Oregon & The Amazing Sand Dunes

  • Once we left Portland we had a long drive ahead of us, blue skies layered by unpredictable mist made the drive that extra bit special, providing us with one of the most scenic drives we have ever done. We had a number of sites to see on our way down, one of them being Heceta Head Light House. Once we arrived we had too walk about 10 minutes up hill to reach our destination, the surrounding fog created an eerie feel (which was pretty cool) but sadly I didn’t get to fly the drone around the lighthouse. We then moved on further down the road and arrived at our second stop; ‘Americas’ Largest Seal Cave’ which was actually a huge disappointment. They charge $15 each too look over a cliff to see Seals lying on the rocks…Oh well never mind at least we can say we did it. Finally we arrived in Florence at our below average motel and decided to go explore the humungous Oregon Sand Dunes. This was definitely the highlight of Florence and we really wished we had hired quads or did a guided tour of the Dunes. Sadly our car was no good at off roading despite being a 4x4 however we couldn’t resist giving it a go after watching everyone else having so much fun. After a full day of exploring we wound down at a restaurant 5 minutes away from our hotel, it was super cosy and pretty delicious. We then returned to our motel where we literally slept and washed before leaving early in the morning to head to the Giant Redwoods.
WOULDN’T STAY OVER IN FLORENCE (due to lack of good accommodation) but it is worth passing through.

Hi Louis! Enjoyed your video, but so sorry you didn't like Florence! I live down on the Or coast at the Calif border with similar weather; it was hard to get used to after growing up in sunny, warm So Cal and moving to the Or coast from just outside of Mexico City. Yikes! Anyway, I meet a friend in Florence, in its lovely downtown area next to the river and if you ever get back, stay at The River House Inn. We've been staying there for the past 5 years and its always clean. I'll be going Spring break and I sure hope that restaurant has that crab pasta!! :D Cheers!

The sealion cave use to be free...
It's still pretty cool to see inside a cave. How many people get to do that?
Great video but never have I seen a tsunami warning at a hotel in Oregon... That's a first for me! Lol...

Got his rental suck in the tiniest bit of sand in the parking lot. As earl Dobbs would say city boy stuck! Should I throw him a rope? He'll no!
Pack a dip, pop a top and roll on by.
By the way. Florence is great. But don't tell anybody

I'm sorry...I guess if it's too cold which Oregon is known for... Then, California would be more your place. Warm!
I'm living up in Canada now...Alberta and I'd rather have Oregon cold... That's nothing. It's Eskimo weather up here...brrrr! That's what I get for marrying a Canadian!
