Ben, you definitely showed your ability to figure solutions for problems. This is what makes you shine over others in your industry. I am amazed by the complexity of the BMS on the Fortress power wall.

00:45 Are those big bars connecting to a contactor there?

Yup. Looks like the same one that's in the BMW batteries. There are 2 contactors in series I believe.

Hello, I’m also facing a similar problem. Mine is reading a code error (F58). Is that the reason why you had to replace the BMS? And if so, where did you find the BMS to purchase?

Hi Alex, I don't remember what the error code was here. I worked with Fortress and they are the ones who determined the issue and provided me with a new BMS. The reason we went that route instead of replacing the entire unit was because of the location of the battery. It was down in a terrible crawl space and it would have been a lot more work to get the battery out of there.

Thank you so much for sharing this. Looked like a terriblel space to be working in. I was caughing just looking at those fiberglass fibers in the air. Could you verify, it looks like the MOSFETs were controlling the relays. Is that right? And I was surprised to see a cheaper looking shunt instead of a brass one. Again, Thank you for sharing.

It was definitely not pleasant down there! The mosfet that burned up appeared to be on a separate board where the shunt and voltage sense leads tie in. Not sure why it smoked.

@@benssolarandbattery Look at it this way: at least it wasn't plumbing.

Hello, does the evault have a class T fuse inside of it?

Ask rob about the basement crawl space we had to sneak a sonnen into.

@@Starkchris this one at least had a poured floor and didn't smell like piss. That other one was something else. We put in a Sol-Ark 12k and 3 Simpliphi 3.8 to replace the Sonnen. It kept failing...

Not yet. I'm really liking the Simpliphi 3.8 for higher end installs.
