Question: What is your Opinion of the EG4 18KPV? We need to convert an Only Grid-Tied System to Both Grid and Off Grid. So either we replace the whole Inverter or Incorporate switches to switch the Solar Output Over to an Off Grid Inverter Charger that will output at least 12KW and accept 17KW of Solar PV input.

One year later and the latest XW Pro firmware is v2.04 dated 03/2023. So no improvement in AC-coupled, on grid, TOU support.

Can you parallel 2 of them?

I have changed out probably 5 or 6 optimizers since I have my 36 panels. Thanks God I have mine on the ground and not on Roof. Own my inverter just went out. All under warranty

I have an older style 5ah 40v pack that only shows 1 LED for charge. Put it on the charger and it immediately shows it as full charge, no red error LEDs. wonder if it has a similar problem. Any thoughts?

thank you. I'm learning a LOT about dc breakres. I originally had these in-line breakers they use in 12v stereo installations. I found that these thermal breakers heat up and trip over time. I had one 40A breaker which had 20A to 21A continuous for solar. It heated up, melted and then stayed closed and would not trip open. Youch. I came to understand that those breakers were worthless because of the poor design. That was 6 years ago when those were the only DC breakers you could find. Now these new type of DC breakers that look like AC breakers, are the right ones for power applications. Cheap and easy to find on amazon. Thank you so much for making it easy to understand all this.

I currently having issues with my Schneider XW6848 Pro. Its only been installed less than a week, I've updated firmware on both the Insigth home and the Inverter and its gotten worse. Inverter is still so loud I can't take it. BRRRRRRR humming noise, it's worse at low loads. and Incredibly loud when charging at the full rate of charge amps. I've had to cut back to only 80amps charge current. Home insight dashboard does not work correctly. And the Suport from Schneider has not been good at all. Local dealer I purchased from has not offered to come out and look at it. He's told me that because the distributor that he had it dropped shipped to me has gone out of business that I now have to deal with Schneider direct. I had been so happy with my Xantrex products over the last 20yrs that I figured Schneider taking over Xantrex made it a no brainer. What a mistake! At this point I wish I had gone with another system.

Solaredge, so difficult to get help when you have warranty problems. Never again. Tesla inverters are so popular now.

Have you tried the 15k.

Ben, I have a very similar (same?) Solaredge DC coupled system. Have you ever updated the software on the Solaredge? Just curious-I haven’t tried that.

Ive had this unit for I think 6 years or more while reliable not very user friendly. Schneider should pay you for this video their support videos are non existent. Good job dude.

Ben- I cannot find any information about what the large grounding lug on the right below the Negative DC busbar goes to. I see you have it connected but I can't follow where the aluminum wire goes to its source. You mention it at 3.47 minutes. Can you explain that so a caveman can understand? lol Not sure what needs to go there.

Excuse me but I see u’ve no idea mate! This burnt red dish is a varistor that must protect against high voltages. It’s highly probable your micro inverter has suffered a high voltaje punch, probable directly from an irregularity in the power net or, perhaps, by a discharge Inma storm… 😬🤯

What Ground mount Systems are those?

Smart move charging your EV with a Schneider Electric XW low frequency, transformer based inverter. The low cost, high frequency, transformerless inverters that are now flooding the market can easily fry the onboard charger of any EV because they don't use an isolation transformer.

On my own personal experience, with XW+, Conect MPPT 80-600 and 24 Rolls Batteries S2 L16 EX 2 volts 1040 Ah @ 20 hours, we ask the customer to turn on everything.... even an old window AC ( which turn to be a power eater...), the inverter goes up to 7.5 kwh for 15 minutes without problem at all. Not even a blink. We then shoot the whole load off, to see the batteries, connections and final closing. My point, Schneider is an excellent inverter that with the toroidal transformer make a great difference when dealing with those inductive loads.

Look like you got good experience with the system. I got an HD Wave and on my Pac[W] I'm getting ZERO watt. What do you think is going on? All 12 optimizers are recognized. But nada on Pac[W].

Thanks for the videos. I recently installed an XW 6848 Pro with the mini pdu. A concern I have is that it appears that the factory installed L1 and L2 wires from the grid in are reversed where they connect to the bottom of the grid breaker. The drawing appears to be correct but on my pdu the L1 and L2 are reversed and it appears in your video that yours may be reversed also. I did get ahold of Schneider yesterday and was under the impression that they were going to send me an email that I was to attach photos to and send back but I never received the email. I tried calling again today but was on hold for a bit but then got a message to call back later because no one was available.

After much Canbus hacking and Pylontech reverse engineering, (the Battery Management System (BMS) in a Sonnen battery is made by a Chinese company Pylontech. I was able to repurpose the Sonnen Battery to power my un-smart old 48 volt Aims Inverter. If a Tesla Powerwall fails or needs to be repurposed it is easy as pie. If a Tesla car is wrecked and there is no fire, the battery can be repurposed. Sonnen who advertise as being a "Green" company sure is sending a lot of batteries to land fields.

i have 84 of these optimizers for my first solar system. first day we found a few DOAs. humming along for 9 months till the next summer, 2 went dead. it's been about 1 a year since. keeping my fingers crossed that the remaining are heat hardened enough to last 😅

Nice little system. So expensive though. 2 questions - why the rapid shutdown? Surely in the event of a grid/ac faliure you'd want the solar to keep charging the batteries, not shut down? Secondly how are you balancing those 2 x 12v batteries in series? Any slight difference in internal resistance means those two could get out of balance over time and cause issues?

Without an iron core, copper wound output transformer, the Chinese engineered and built, low cost high frequency inverter tech that's used in the Sol-Ark or EG4 6000XP can't possibly compete with the peak power capability of the Schneider XW inverter.

So how did you get your, cable? From the insight home. To the mini pdp? I see the yellow cable. Coming from the charge controller. But not the white cable. From the insight home.

Just buy the Sol-Ark 15K and forget all the rest.

YES, I think you helped me save my project by making me aware that i can connect the daly bms to a bank of leaf modules in series. Does it work like that out of the box? I thought the bms would help monitor and balance each cell and I was under the impression that I would have to crack open each module and solder the bms leads to each cell in the leaf's 2s2p modules. originally, I was going to crack open 5 leaf modules and re-wire the 2s2p stock modules into 4s and bms them into my 72v project. I already purchased a 20s 80amp daly bms originally for the 20 cells i would have re-wired into series across 5 modules. Now, can I just hook them up to the 10 modules as you did with your 8 and get balancing and monitoring? @benssolarandbattery

After extensive research on an island residential solar inverter. I went with the sol-ark-12kw EMP. My installer contacted them to make sure it would work with my current whole house system and generator activation. Solark tec support reviewed the plan and said it would work for a whole house system with standby generator.(email documented) After purchase we saw it was only capable of 37.5 amp output. Far cry from what we were told (whole house). After 15 or so calls to solark and 12+ viocemails. The only real person I talked with was the receptionist who was very sympathetic that I still had not talked to a single person at solark, and none had returned my calls/voicemails. I did talk to one who said he would call me later. Never happened all I wanted was to return the 12kw for a 15kw. EMP. And get an ETA for the new unit to reschedule my installer. This took 4 days and had to pay the return shipping of $200 and a 3% credit card fee to get the larger inverter! No apology, no waiver of the CC fee, no free shipping label to return the wrong product they sold me. After arrival of the new 15kw the installers tried several times for tec support. They hit the same walls I did with nobody returning or answering calls!! It took nearly 1week for them to get me an ETA for my installer. The equipment is amazing! The company and responce time for a customer that just spent $9,000 on their product is disparingly inept! We also noted with the extra charge of $1,500. This purchase of the EMP hardened unit there were (no instructions on how to install the external EMP components!) Nearing the end of install I received an email that the external EMP components were to be mounted to each solar panel that had already been installed! Now we needed o remove and reinstall each panel !! I was Furious. I emailed solark and was now told quote from Sean Miller Operatiins Director with Sol-Ark, (it is not required but is suggested!) So I paid $1,500 for not required but suggested Emp instalation on my Panels ????? So why did it cost me an extra $1,500 for the external part that goes ON the panels is suggested???? Is their EMP hardened inverter a SCAM?? IT HAS NO Instructions? And vague emails! Needless to say ! We will not be moving forward with solark with our future comercial instals. The 1 star is for product! The customer support star! You can decide!! Charles Shotton Missouri

How do you add the new optimizer to the website? I have a solar company that wants to charge an exorbitant amount of money to replace two optimizers.
