    SOURCED FROM WIKIPEDIA:
The 42LE was modified in 2003 as the 42RLE, originally for the then-new Jeep Liberty. It is a 42LE transaxle, modified for use in rear-wheel drive vehicles by removing the integral differential and transfer chain. Power flow exits the rear of the transmission. The case has also been modified. By design, it has full-electronic shift control with adaptive memory to learn the operator's driving habits controlled by the vehicle's Transmission Control Module (TCM). Contained within the automatic's torque converter is an Electronically Modulated Converter Clutch (EMCC), designed act as a shock absorber for harsh shifting. 42RLE production ceased in early 2012.[9]
    Gear Ratios for the 42RLE:
    1st: 2.80
    2nd: 1.55
    3rd: 1.00
    4th: 0.69
    Applications:
    42RLE
    2005-2010 Chrysler 300
    2006-2010 Dodge Charger
    2004-2011 Dodge Dakota
    2004-2009 Dodge Durango
    2005-2008 Dodge Magnum
    2007-2011 Dodge Nitro
    2003-2012 Jeep Liberty
    2003-2011 Jeep Wrangler
    2009 Dodge Challenger V6

I did the same job but I didn't get messy. You're replacing the pan anyway so I drilled a half inch hole on the lowest end of the pan . After the fluid drained (45min) removed the rusty pan and finished the job with no fluid on my hands or on the floor. Still I enjoyed your video.

Did you check the tarp for the old O-ring?
When you pulled the filter off, it looks like the O-ring is still there in the tranny hole,
and the gush of fluid flung it onto the tarp. 9:39 (turn the playback speed all the way down).

I think the gasket comes with filter because most just do filter change . they figure if somebody is going to change the pan ( like you ) they will do filter too so actully makes sense

If you check that you have the new one is going fit, you can make a hole in the old one to leak properly i think...

I was chuckling a little bit when you were pulling the filter out since I knew what was coming with the fluid dump. Did my Jeep about 6 months ago with same parts. I added a Lubelocker gasket which is great because it's reusable. At least you put a dent in the "honey-do" list! 🤣

A few funny comments below. If anyone lands here needing to do this job on the ground, use a tarp as shown in this video or just get a large square or rectangular drip pan because the fluid has a large perimeter after you start removing the pan bolts. I also recommend LubeLocker pan gasket, and rear diff gasket. Also for longevity, I recommend Amsoil Trans fluid (synthetic). Don't forget to change the transfer case fluid and rear Diff if you have a 4x4 model.
Be careful not to cross thread the bolts when putting the pan back on. I have a Nitro approaching 180k and trans shifts like new. Fluid and filter changed once well before 100k and once after. The new dipstick is available online. Measure the fluid that comes out and replace with the same amount. If you had a leak like this video, def learn how to determine the full mark. The dipstick alone will not indicate a mark that means full. The dipstick is not specific to this transmission, and it does not stay in the tube. The dipstick is stored in your tool kit or in the trunk of your car.

Hey man I hope you see this, I just changed my oil pan on my 2008 dodge nitro about 10 days ago the fluid thay came out was a blueish color and the one it called for was the sake redish one you put in but that made me super nervous but now my transmission is acting a little weird like when I shift into drive or reverse (only ones iv driven it just a little bit and got the fluids moving) it makes a pzzzz sound like it sounds like a water pump or something pumping fluid. It's not very loud but it's definitely not normal and it only happens when I shift into reverse or drive... please when you see this could you comment and let me know if I did something wrong to cause this. I put in what it called for and the right amount but I'm worried I did something wrong

Just so you know transmission fluid is supposed to be red not black, since yours is black I would suggest possibly getting that transmission rebuilt or get a new one as the clutch plates are more than likely gone

This vehicle is a 2011 with a 3.7 engine. I think this is the only transmission offered (not 100%) so yeah it should be exactly the same

All I need to hear to skip buying the stoopid millimeter dipstick.
My girlfriend has a 2011 nitro with 130,000 miles… funny.
She got it at 110K and we had a head gasket blow within 500 miles of ownership. Got a salvage motor through warranty.
Personally, I’ve put 4 rotors + pads and coils, wires, and plugs.
Transmission does shudder intermittently when it’s getting up to highway speeds and shifting into higher gears.
Next I’m planning to do the front and rear differential, along with the transfer case. Gotta keep up on them oil changes and I have no history on this car :)
