Gameplay Footage: • How to SOLO THE NEW GH...
This article is about the Game. For the location, see The Sea of Thieves.
Sea of Thieves is a first-person multiplayer game developed by Rare and published by Microsoft Studios for Xbox consoles and Windows 10. The game was first playable during Closed Beta in the last part of January 2018. It was fully released on March 20, 2018 as a game for Xbox One and Windows 10, via Microsoft Store, and later became available through Steam on June 3, 2020. It was also one of the earliest first-party games released for Xbox Game Pass subscribers.
As an Xbox Play Anywhere title, the game features cross-platform play between Xbox, Microsoft Store, and Steam. Character, currencies, and progression is synced across platforms using the player's Xbox Live account.
    Summary
    The Sea of Thieves
Sea of Thieves is a co-op and Player versus Player multiplayer game where players take on the role of Pirates sailing on the open sea looking for Treasure and battling each other. Players can cooperate in up to 4-person Crews or sail alone, picking up Quests and Voyages from various Companies, which generally involve sailing to various Locations to find buried Treasure, transporting various Trade Goods, battling Skeletons or hunting Animals, Fish and other beasts. All this is to earn Gold and Reputation with various Trading Companies to work your way up to becoming a Pirate Legend.
    Emergent Gameplay
The game is focused on emergent gameplay. This means that Crews that encounter each other on the seas can choose how to play the game. They can battle it out for each other's gathered Treasure either in Ship to Ship combat by utilising the Ship's Cannons and clever maneuvering tricks or in Close Combat by utilising a variety of Weapons. The other alternative would be to work together in Player Alliances and share all the hard-earned Treasure with all the Ship Crews in the Fleet.
    Equal Grounds
Sea of Thieves favours an equal playground where players can excel with their Skills and Wits instead of mechanically favouring the Players who have acquired the most Gold or Reputation. This means that every Pirate starts out with the same Equipment, Weapons and Ships that cannot be improved in any way. The only purpose for gaining Gold or leveling up with the various Trading Companies is to gain visual upgrades to show off your dedication to a certain Style or Faction by wearing themed Cosmetic Sets or showing off your hard earned Titles. To counterbalance this linear progression system, the game likes to keep its mouth shut about as many elements as possible, trusting the players to find out how to use different Tools or Equipment or even how to sail the Ship most efficiently by themselves or through communicating with Crew members or Enemies.
    Character Death
The game is fairly forgiving with Player or Ship death, making sure that the players do not lose anything significant that would help them return to the Seas immediately. Instead the Player Crews only chance to lose all the Treasure and Resources that have been gathered during a single Sailing session. The Crew's Ship acts as a portable base, as any players far away from their Ship can find and catch a Mermaid in the seas to return to their Ships. Likewise, once a Player dies, there is a brief window in which they can be revived by other players. If this is not done in time or the player chooses to offer their soul, they will be transported to the Ferry of the Damned for half a minute until they can return to their Ship to try to fight for their loot once more. When a Ship sinks, any Treasure on board will float to the top of the seas for around five minutes until it will sink and the Crew's Ship will spawn at a different location of the Sea of Thieves. Any players who survive the sinking can try to regain the Treasure on a Rowboat or keep it floating or away from other Crews for as long as possible, until the rest of the Crew tries to sail back to it. Any Resources gathered on the Ship during the session will sink with the Ship, however every new Ship will spawn with a handful of Resources ready at the Ship's Barrels.

Instead of adding new ships it would also be awesome if they modified old ships to look more realistic and cooler. Like the black pearl and the Flying Dutchman in the A pirates life tall tales. It would be very very annoying for rare to change and remake all the ship cosmetics but it is still a cool idea. Or make the sailing more realistic with a front sail for a little extra speed or a back sail that swings violently around if you turn with your back in the wind. I think that would make sailing a lot more fun.

The Manowar, yes. Being captain of a big ship like that would be awesome.
Also how about adding a feature like being able to change out the harpoon for a cannon? A feature that allows you to switch the harpoons on the ship to cannons, even when sailing. Buy them at the shipwright, 25k gold, and a box will appear next to the harpoons.
Also have them in the back of the ship too.

My main question is why isn't 120 fov a thing, seen many cheaters or others use it and seems to work fine

These all sound great to me. The only one I really disagree with is adding a larger ship. While it would be amazing to play on, it would completely break the game for smaller crews.
Also, SoT will never be on playstation. This game is one of microsoft's main gamepass titles. I'm surprised it even ended up on steam, but it certainly will not be sold by their direct competitor.

Im against board games in Adventure mode, as immersive as it would be its nothing more then a distraction from Adventuring.
With a low amount of players already in servers, those activities will add a bit to the seas feel more empty.
Ive made a suggestion in the forum about making a pirate port like the Arena lobby, outside of Adventure mode where you get to meet other crews and partucipate in fun activities.
You can get there with your crews or just by yourself and even sail from there to Adventure mode.
It would be a perfect place for board games and dueling and more, even your own hideout and a new store that sells furnitures.
Also having an option to exclude a specific item from storage crates, say you dont want it to siphon worms and fireworks.
    Saved sets of course
More immersive tools like smoke pipes and more instruments, less magic and more historical tools.

i thought it would be engaging for crews when they are sailing to destinations and have nothing else to do, obviously this could be interrupted by krakens and megalodons and things, but idk fair enough

We dont need an eight man ship....A galleon is hard enough to go up against. But eight?!?!?!? Can you imagine being a solo slooper and one of those show up? I would quit the game. I'm not getting harassed by eight people

What if there were 2 invidual types of lobby for example 1-4 ppl and 4-10 ppl

@@arielsdead Could be better but it's still unfair. A four man brig against an eight crewed ship? Four can just either man cannons and barrage the galleon with cannon fire while the other four board or half board and half repair. The galleon would be overwhelmed.
