My only goal for 2024 is to keep better track of things. Spending. What books I already have to be read. What my plans are to read. What the weather has been for my journal. That kind of thing.

Yes, I’m so excited about book club with you!! And I hear you on hating exercise. Maybe it’s because it is hard to exercise with weights or whatever and read at the same time? Lol. But, like you, I figure I can walk and listen to audiobooks at the same time. I got a standing desk to plop above a walking treadmill. And I downloaded the Fantasy Hike app to see my little avatar walk to Mordor as my phone counts steps. Here’s hoping! 😂 Good luck to us both.

Not sure if this would be helpful for you. But for exercise I sometimes reserve an audiobook or podcast that I ONLY listen to while I’m exercising. If it’s a good book I’m more motivated to go on that walk 😅

That's a great idea! I might have to have a special "walks only" book or something like that.

Hi Emily! This inspired me to think of some goals too (haven’t yet focused on that this holiday season). Appreciate your candor on phone usage! Ugh…so hard. I love walking and hiking because it feels like one thing I can do to really nurture and care for myself. Love the suggestion for a “walk only” book or podcast. Here’s to intentionally reaching our goals this year! Happy New Year!

I have several goals this year. Consistent date nights (we are trying an alphabetical restaurant challenge) and getting big, boring stuff done like getting rid of a car, renewing our passports, seeing a financial advisor, and getting a physical and mammogram.

Thanks for sharing! Not sure if you have access to a pool, but swimming is really good exercise and you don't sweat! All the best for 2024!

My hubs and I have declared 2024 the year of health and wealth lol we want to get our nutrition even more on track, get back into a routone of movement(walking, yoga, etc) and try to pay off as much of our debt as possible.

We have to pay off the last of Robbie's tuition, and then we can start working on debt. Then, in 3.5 years, we have another in school. But I'm excited for that 3 year break in between, lol.

My reading goals for 2024 are to do the BYL reading challenge, read the Arrrgh Booked Book Club selections, do the Tea and Ink Society reading challenge (all books must be published before 1970), read my library book club selections, and my local arboretum book club selections (these are both in-person book clubs). Anytime I can include a book that I already own I will do so and anytime I can include something that broadens my reading (essays, plays, novels in verse, etc.) I will include those as well.
I too would like to walk daily. Some weeks I do great and then I lose all momentum again. I nearly always enjoy walks so why is it so hard to get out the door?!

I realllly think (and really hope!) that daily walks will be sooo good for you. ❤️

Oh no, I'm exercise-phobic too. But at 40+ I really want to make sure I maintain agility and strength. I'm so bad about getting outside in MN winter. Best of luck! 😂

I am so happy I found your channel.. You are definitely a kindred spirit.. My word was gratitude2 years ago last year was peace. 2024 its joyful... Walking more is a great goal and mine too. I read a great book this fall called There no such thing. as bad weather a Scandinavian mom secret for raising happy kids ( I am AA empty nester but took the concept to apply to myself) it really opened my eyes and was so interesting!

Thank you! I need to read that book. I love the concept of nature and the outdoors, but am not great at actually going outside, especially if the weather is yucky. Thank you for the recommendation!

When the weather is awful, there are plenty of walking workouts on RUclips. You can mute them and put on an audio book.

I also hate the way exercise feels (in many different ways) except a rowing machine. But I hate going to a gym (as a friend's guest) and I refuse to join a gym that will be impossible to cancel when I stop going. 🤣 One day I'm going to get a nice rowing machine. One of my intentions for the year is to prep better for a vegetable garden. We have a couple of acres but it's red clay. Gardening gets me off of my phone. Also I'm doing your book club! I've never in my almost 40 years been in a book club.

Oh I hate going to the gym - I tried that for a short while, I really like the treadmill but I hate exercising in public - no thank you. I constantly felt like people were watching me even though logically, I know they aren't.

@@ARRRGHSchooling same. I know no one is paying attention to me but I hate being seen. One reason I hate walking where I live.

Man I’m barely reading 20 a year but it’s a huge improvement because I want many many years without reading anything at all. How do you manage getting to 100? I’d love to be able to do that. Any tips? On another note the best thing I ever did was delete Instagram and Facebook. I’m only on RUclips and as you can see I’m here now 😂baby steps.
