    my Disney Store has a "limited one per customer" sign. However, I will never forget the day when I walked in and there was a guy buying the last 4 Elite Series Boba Fetts and I wanted one so he gave one to me. I realise that doesn't happen often, but nice guy for doing it.

    there is army building and there is hording, and those photos were pure hoarding to be fair I can kinda see why he would have so many Gallimimus because there was a big heard of them in the movie that's army building, but still it is a bit extreme to have so many duplicates.

    I watched a man walk out a toy store with 14 or so Marvel Legends Sentry's, so I was like 3 inches away from the Sentry's and I was going to get one but then he just budged in front of me and took all of them and I went and said "hey just leave like three at least for me and maybe some kids who want him" and he gave me a death glare as he walked away to the counter...I was scared

  • @drewgardner479

    I agree with you.
    I just started a vintage G.I.Joe collection, and some loose figures can go for as much as $50 each on Ebay, and there'd only be a couple of listings. Buying even one of each figure would be very expensive.
    Then I saw a youtube video of a guy's collection with about twenty of each figure, and I thought; "That's why they're so rare and expensive!"
    There'd be plenty for everyone if it wasn't for the hoarders.

    Seriously I agree with you, this man.. collector/hoarder was in smyths.
    I was going to get a JWFK toy and this guy was there. I'm a kid, so I went beside him and looked at the toys, not necessarily the one I wanted to look at, but I did. So I waited for him to move, and once he did he walked away with like half of the shelf. He had left a few of the small dinosaurs, matchbox cars and an allosaurus I think?
    I kinda just looked at my parents, and then walked out of that store with nothing because this dude took all of the KIDS TOYS away from KIDS
    Let me tell you he took all of the legacy collection that was there. He must of been some hoarder .. but I'm going again on Friday to pick something up XD

    I don't really have a problem with wanting multiple figures, my problem comes in when the scalpers buy 5-10 of one rare figure and sell it on Ebay for double what they bought it for.

  • @MarcoMakesOfficial

    omg what's the point of having sooo many figures!? It's ridiculous

  • @JeremyJamesPrutchick
    @JeremyJamesPrutchick 8 лет назад +3

    If I ever had a duplicate of a toy, it would be one to keep in the package and the other to open and play/display at a different angle. I'm a die-hard Jurassic Park fan, but I'd never buy that many Raptors. I don't need that many. Even people who make JP dioramas and JP toy films don't use that many. Seriously, 4 Carnotaurs?!?! It's hard enough to find just one, even loose! That's why the prices on toys go up; because there aren't many left because of the occasional hoarder/scalper. I know it's their money and they can spend it however they want, but still... It's not fair to those who couldn't find a toy.

    • @thebatmaniac8252

    Finally we have a voice, I see people post pictures of them owning thousands of the same toy. I know that they can buy what ever they want, but do they really need 50 of the same toys, what is the point of buying the same things over, and over, and over again?

    • @thorvapereviews2796
      @thorvapereviews2796 8 лет назад +3

      army building. Which makes sense in a certain regard, when it comes to things like Clone/Stormtroopers, Cobra troopers, grunts. Especially collectors like me who likes to have dioramic/scene based displays. However there is a level were it gets absurd. I would like to have a small squad of 501st troopers....but when prices become ridiculous one is fine, but then the display feels gimped since I like creating scene rather than stock posing collecting dust. Then the issue comes with is that some collector's has insane armies built up that makes even a small squad hard to afford due to second hand prices.

  • @jackmills7758
    @jackmills7758 6 лет назад +8

    I don't really collect figures since there isn't one that is a must have, but why buy millions of the same figure, when you don't have real use for them? The Jurassic Park collection is like grands of money down the drain, that is an expensive price just to look at the toys poseing.... very worth it.

  • @JumpYard
    @JumpYard 8 лет назад +8

    I experience this problem as a fan of the current TMNT figure line. Anytime I go to the Turtles section there is like two figures from a couple years ago and the new stuff is all taken. I once saw a 50 year old guy with 7 new Bebob figures. I was pissed.

    This happens in the plush collecting community. There is a plush husky that is very popular and has been discontinued. There are people who have like 12 of them and every time they come up on eBay for very overinflated prices, these guys grab them up. It is very irritating.

  • @Barytyrannus
    @Barytyrannus 5 лет назад +3

    Its so saddening to see this as someone who just got into collecting. I saw that one guy had like 50 of the JPDinosaurs Dimetrodon repaint, my FAVORITE repaint. That thing is IMPOSSIBLE to find on eBay and when I do, its well over $50. What the hell man. I expect retro toys to be more expensive than their retail prices but the real reason they are so expensive is because of people like these.

    With the WeyYu commandos it makes sense for people who want to set up dioramas and scenes from the movies. That’s why people army build with xenomorphs. But to have four demon carnos is just ridiculous. That’s like having 18 Rexys and 62 Blues.

    I'm officially subscribing to this channel because your one of the few and I mean FEW fans that truly understand the struggle of having to look at these other collector people literally hoarding a whole basement or garage of literally 14 or more of the same figure, it sucks people buy these things in lots wether it's jurassic or starwars or old school kenner whatever it may be it's insane and I've seen other RUclips's not going to say who because I'm nice like that but they show these massive toy collections in their back grounds for their videos and sure goodie for them but what they don't realize is that's a solid middle finger to the people who care about that sorta thing like "oh you don't have this one? Gee sorry about it" and yet they show theirs off, now don't get me wrong I totally get being proud of something but like you explained in the video it's unfair to other collectors around the world depending on which country you live in and what you have access to ETC. This goes to something even more important it's like the people who rub it in other fans faces when they met actors or played co -op with well known RUclips's in video games same narrative that "I'm a bigger fan than you" attitude if we avoid being jocks and go the nerd route competition is still a thing but not necessarily because TO EACH IS OWN thank God people of all ages understand that phrase...i apologize to whoever made it to the end of this comment I'm sorry it was long but it was an issue all fans needed to be addressed and thank you Matthew Brandi for making this video that covers this activation us collectors go through

    The closest thing to hoarding I've ever done is army building, but I only do it when the character is an army (ex. Stormtrooper) and only an army. I don't collect more of a single character unless it's from a different line (ex. Hasbro and Bandai). Even when I build an army, I tend to max it at 4 figures only to save money and space.

    This also happens with Lego enthusiasts and Funko Pop collectors as well. The Lego Star Wars set The Phantom || from 2017 had two exclusive minifigures and after it got discontinued in December that same year. The prices have skyrocketed because the exclusive figs are Blind Kanan Jarrus and Admiral Thrawn. This one RUclipsr even has at least 20 copies of those sets. Like come on you don't need that much of one set. Resellers are selling the set for $ 300 at least just new. It's completely ridiculous. Even the 2017 set Darth Vader's transformation is being resold online for at least $ 80 dollars and none of the figures are exclusive anymore. The same goes with multiple Lego sets.
    I went to this Funko store and they didn't have any Eddie Munson Pops scalpers we're taking them all to resell for outrageous prices. They even tried to sell a T Rex deluxe Pop from JW FK for 100 when it was repackaged for JW Dominion by Funko for at least $30.

    I considered that hoarding. Which is nuts. I have a friend who loved Hot Toys and stuff like that and he hadn't got the room to display them. I did say 'why not sell some?' He decided to sell all the stuff and he actually did.
    He then decided to sell all his NECA stuff pretty much and now has his remaining NECA stuff is on display and has his Hot Toys stuff which is on really good display and everyone is like WOW when they see them.

When they had the first wave of HC figures on sale all the velociraptors were gone , only two Ian Malcolm figures two Paras & one Baryonx. What the people who do this crap don't realize is that the toy company's have to put out a lot more figures so they make worse stuff in order to mass produce it cheaper and faster.That's part of the reason the Jurassic World Hasbro line was so bad,you had these jerks buying 20 mosasaurs and then Hasbro felt no need to fix the quality on the next set of figures. So for like 3 years the Jurassic line was just horrible and the ones that where half descent you couldn't get in the stores.I have no problem with if you get maybe 2 and sit on one for a couple of years to see if it picks up value but when someone go buy 7 Han Solo's and sell them on for triple then the next line of Star Wars toys suck I just fell like some guy I don't even know is profiting of everyone else getting screwed over.

      I got my carno at the Warwick Rhode Island toysrus when it came out years ago. It wasn't hard to find when it was released (the series 2 saber toothed cat thing, the green snake like dinosaur, the big red/yellow/grey flying dinosaur, and the evil hunters were much harder to come across during that time). But as time passed, yes, it has become rarer and sought after.

    It really pisses me off tbh. As a JP fan, it’s kind of hard to get the Kenner JP figures because it’s hard to find a decent priced one. Especially since they’re some figures that are hard to find, and when I see those photos you put on screen, I was just like, “Wow… what can I do for you to give me at least one of them.” Like seriously? There was someone I followed on Instagram and he bought 6 of the JP legacy Ford Explorer’s and I spoke my mind about it. Again like Matthew Brando said. Although it’s fine to buy as much of the same figure you want. Your still being a dick to the other collectors. It really sickens me, and it makes collecting these figures hard and really frustrating. Like I have to be careful because if anything happens to my Kenner figures, it’s going to be one pain in the ass to find a decent one online.
    Moral of the story is, to not buy the same figure over and over and over again. And to think whether you want to get the figure or not. I’m thinking about selling some of my Mattel JP figures because I just regret getting them tbh. I’ll only keep the ones I really like, like the original Herrarasaurus.

    I dunno, I feel like theres a distinction to be made between valid troop building and hoarding or scalping. Like, the guy with 3 Weyland-Yutani Mercs seems more like valid troop building, they even had set up a posed photo like they captured a Predator. That's different from like, a guy who has 5 of the same figure all perfectly sealed in box or the guy who clears out a store's inventory of a hot figure to resell them. I have no problem with multi-dipping on the same figure if you're troop building or showing off a Transformer or something in multiple modes.

    Would army building count as hoarding? I haven't started army building any figures yet, but if I do, it'll only be 2 or 3 per variant(3 if it's the only version of that soldier or something, 2 if there are other variants to collect). I wouldn't go overboard, but I see no problem in doing a little bit of army building.

    There’s a difference between army building which consists of 5 to 10 at least most and then hoarding which is 20+ I realize this is a big deal especially in the G.I. Joe category where everybody’s building old figures and eventually becomes hoarding when they got 500 of them raising the price of one to almost $100

    Yeah sure these people can buy 12+ of one figure but that doesn't mean they should.

  • @bretbuckley704
    @bretbuckley704 6 лет назад

    Yes! The only time I ever buy more than one of the same figure is if it makes sense because there was more than one in the movie/ game etc..like alien warriors, raptors, zombies, etc...or if I want one as-is, and another one for a custom paint project. But there is a difference between having a few for variants & army building, and buying out an unreasonable amount of them just for the sake of it. Hoarders and scalpers are not true collectors imo....they are toxic to the collecting market by creating artificial rarity and forcing people to buy out toys for outlandish prices

    The one that pisses me off the most is the people hording and/or scalping Transformers figures. I went to my local WallyWorld a few weeks ago and to my surprise found they had put out a single box of the wave one Titans Return figures. Now I just want a set, just the 4 original Autobot Headmasters, and the 3 Decepticon beast headmasters. I found Hardhead and since I had been pretty good money wise I snagged him, figuring when I came back if they had a Skullcrusher I would snag him. I'm on the next isle looking to see if there's any Batmobiles hidden in the Hot Wheels (Still missing the BvS version) I hear a massive crash from the TF section, when I come around the corner there's a dude there with a cart and he just puts his hand at the back of the peg and sweeps everything off into his cart. Clears the entire section in one or two hand movements. He sees me, and the figure in my hand, starts to ask if I really want to buy it and when I pull it behind me and say yeah (Like at this point I feel like im protecting a child from this guy) he just give me a dirty look and storms off. Not before calling me an asshole a little louder then I think he intended.
    Don't even get me started about how I got banned from a TRU for getting into an argument with a shit head when he took a He-Man/DC set out of a kids hands and tried to run off with it.

    Funko is terrible for this type of thing, pop figures in particular, people always snag up these figures because they just think they'll be worth something or to re-sell the item second hand for double the price and think of others who may want that exact figure that you bought just to take advantage of it who want it to complete a set they like or just like the figure in general

    I honestly don't understand toy hoarding in this scale either. I'm an un-carded NECA and vintage Kenner collector. I only collect toys from my favourite childhood movies and a few random sci-fi/horror figures. I require one example of each iconic character, creature and/or vehicle as seen in the movie. For instance my un-carded Kenner JP collection consists of all five humans, series 2 Ian Malcolm, screaming Velociraptor, T-rex & Jungle explorer (ICONIC.... see). I don't buy Kenner repaints and only buy NECA costume change figures if they feature (once again) "iconically" in the movie. For example my Neca Alien (1979) collection consists of Ripley, Space suit Ripley and Big chap. I'm not interested in Dallas or Kane, for me Ripley and the Alien are the movie's visual cue/representation in my display. To collect more than one of each figure (bar maybe carded and un-carded versions) is extremely costly and takes up a large amount of space. I narrow down my collection to those items I consider to be major scene specific and important. :)

    The one reason why that the Commandos are selling out is because people like to army build them, you don't see people buying the Ripley's and Dog Aliens in droves. Plus you have the water marks/ stickers to customize up to 4 of them.

      +Matthew Brando lol....don't spend a grand on them and buy more man. It gives them more a reason to give shoddy products. yeah they look nice...but no matter how much I love the license a shitty figure is a shitty figure. Sure they look better than what Mattel/Hasbro puts out....then comes time to actually getting them in a pose and it's all down hill there. AT LEAST Arnie figured out the jet pack thing though lol

    Those photos make me cringe so hard. I can see why someone would maybe want four or something Velociraptors to make a pack, but THAT many is excessive. I only buy two of a figure tops, there really is no reason to have more than two.

  • @bjpalm1994

    I agree about the hoarding. I can see having 2,3 maybe 5 if you are someone into ACBA and enjoy making scenes with your figures but to have as many dinos as some of those pics show is ridiculous. Having 10-20+ lined up in a row on your shelf? Looks pretty boring to me. Sometimes if I get multiples its a while later after they more or less pegwarm.

    I usually buy 2 of something I really really love, like I have 2 red rexes and 2 thrashers. Mostly I do it for comparison sake, but having more than like 5 of something seems pointless. I think the most I've ever owned of one toy is 4, and that's because I was purchasing for others. I'm really glad I'm bying rebor at the moment, no shortage of those dino gems :) only thing is they are pretty pricey.

  • @marktaktak8998

    Here's my opinion, I think Scalpers is pretty hurtful to our collecting Hobby, but then the flip-side is so many figures can be peg warmers too, so perhaps buying two or three of a figure will help push more figures out because of profits and sales, but yeah I think buying 20 or 30 of a figure is silly.

  • @Ac-np5rn
    @Ac-np5rn 6 лет назад
