Just wanted to mention that this was a temporary enclosure for these turtles. This enclosure is not quite ideal for box turtles long term. In this setup, I only had a heat bulb, they also need a UVB bulb. Also, box turtles are land turtles, so they should have more land, less water. I moved them to an outdoor enclosure, which is much better than this one. Here’s that video: ruclips.net/video/HQRsN5mdZvw/видео.html
@@poolboyproductions8039 20 gallons? are you nuts? Maybe if you want your turtle to die from sheer lack of will to live but they are an active species. if your going with a terrarium a 75 gallon is the bare minimum for a box turtle, and thats even small
I have tons of babies all the time. Finally brought a clutch inside this winter and I cannot use mulch because the shards will get into their tiny eyes. The bigger ones they live out in the yard on their own and are totally capable. The babies also need a bath daily bowl/watering hole, like totally submerged will help their shells grow. They love to stick their head under the water and clean out their eyes daily and neck folds. I also give them earth worms and meal worms which I cut up to a pea-size because at that age they choke easily. They also need humidity, especially cuz of lamps. My guys got a humidifier cranking 24/7. Just advice for other baby turtle owners. My uncle happens to be one of the top recognized turtle and tortoise society's members in the US. Good luck!
Hey carson thnk you so much for the amazing content for all of us. You inspired me to buy a turtle. Hope i could follow your succesfull footsteps. Also congratulations on 8k subscribers you truly deserve it!
I applaud you for taking care of these little guys and happy you are moving them outside. The gravel setup inside was not the best thing for these guys as EBTs need deep loose soil to burrow in. Its their natural instinct. I grew up around them and have hatched tons of them over the years. Good luck and thanks for taking care of them as they are endangered and protected in many states.
How do you change their water? Surely you don't take all that stuff out and then have to put it all back in. ALSO, I live in Florida and wonder if I could just let them have some sunshine from a window and not have to use a lamp?
I've always been hoping to find baby box turtles all my life this is so cool if you ever decide to get rid of them I will definitely give them a lovely home I have a pair of Egyptian tortoises
Carson, very cute!!! I love your videos so much and you inspired me to make my own pond and get two baby yellow bellied sliders!! Great Vid. You are amazing!
I found an Eastern box turtle that’s about the same age as yours a week ago. Poor guy is blind in one eye, and I found him with ants latched onto him. I removed them, and after a few days he’s finally eaten and is starting to get used to me. ❤️
It’s such a cool looking setup! My only suggestion is to swap out the kilt he for a different substrate because a lot of times the mulch contains dyes and chemicals that might affect the turtles health. I recommend coco fiber!
THANK YOU FOR THIS I am getting two baby ornate box turtles now I know what to feed them and how to set up their enclosure and I already have a tub exactly like this!!!
Great little set up. Actually the babies do not need uvb. In the wild they stay hidden until a little bigger and stay in the deep forest floor vegetation... Check out Garden State Tortoise on how babies can be kept in water for hydration needs...
I found a baby box turtle 2 days ago just sitting in my yard...his shell is no bigger than a quarter! They are just all kinds of cute. I'm just worried about what to feed, as they are so small at this age. I read they should have a 90% protein diet at this age, and of course, don't forget to dust food with calcium. Good luck to you!
With the recent thunderstorms in Virginia, these guys are everywhere. I bought a $60 UVB bulb fixture so they won't get soft shell. I used a premium top soil with no added fertilizer. Gravel underneath. Covered with moss & oak tree leaves. I had a large triangular bowl where I once kept frogs. That's the swimming pool. They love cherry tomatoes. I cut them up some romaine lettuce. I think they'll do dubia cockroaches, giant mealworms, & night crawlers. I need to add a pine hollow log for cover. I also have a heat pad under the enclosure for small snakes under one corner. If you see anything wrong in my setup, let me know.
Hi I love the indoor in closure you definitely helped me out with what I need to get for my new family member she is tiny just like the 2 you got only she loves crickets. Also I’m a little afraid to use the mulch though cause of the things that’s put in it and well most of the time it’s smells like cow poop..lol.. anyway my mom named her Myrtle the turtle ..lol … please keep making videos it really helped..
I just found a box turtle in my back yard my dog actually found it and brought it up 😂 but just some advice to keep the box turtles happy, get some shredded coconut substrate for the kilt tale guys so they can dig down and burrow. Once I put my turtle in she went straight to digging and has been burrowed ever since I’ve got her
According to the Garden state tortoise guy. He says baby don't need uvb because they spend 95-98% of the time underground in nature. But that the two criticle things they need are HUMIDITY AND HEAT.
Box turtles don’t need that much water at all. You could put mulch/dirt in the whole thing with a very shallow water dish that’s big enough for both of them to get in. And put like a snake hide in there that’s big enough for both of them. If you use thinner dirt they can burrow a lot better. That set up works tho, and looks good.! Just don’t want them to get shell rot from to much water.
Hi. Thank you for video. Are baby box turtles able to hide in their shells right after hatching or it takes some time for them to learn to do that? If it does how long?
i have a turtle like that he’s only slightly bigger than him... i think they’re ridge back box turtles but i’m not sure, if anyone knows what they’re called please let me know
I found ur channel from Sheldons enclosure over his aquarium. Watched a lot of ur vids. Good stuff. I'm not far from the Lou in Warrenton. Keep up the vids.
Hi Bud. So I live in the United kingdom and have 2 musk turtles. What would be a good size tank to get them? I have them in a 60cm x 30cm x 30cm. Please let me know if you wouldn't mind, thank you
We have hella box turtles here in Mississippi. Im currently in a dilemma... i always stop for turtles in the road im the idiot that will put flashers on for any critter run n save. Well this time i found a baby one which i never find so im assuming he was removed from his hidey hole dog or bird being the culprit. He has three punctures on his tiny turtle skin fairly deep and filled with maggots 😢 ive been doin what is recommended from other turtle lovers but im tryin to make sure i do this entirely right being he is a baby and i cant get any assistance from wild life. So any ideas from u guys would be lovely!! Thanks
I see box turtles all the time in my woods that we don’t own but we do like to go in there cause we made our own trial and I see some but there to big to own so whenever I see them I pick them up and check them out but the sad part is, is that sometimes I see a shell of a turtle but there is no turtle in there and I have a whole collection of turtle shells
hey, carson. i have a baby red-eared slider turtle & ive had her for almost 3 weeks. when i bought my turtle, she came with special hatchling food & it said to feed her twice a day with 4-6 pellets. for the first week or so, she only ate about 4 at a time & it took her awhile. now, she eats all 6 rather quickly & doesn’t seem full. i don’t want to over feed her because i know pellets have a lot of protein, but i also don’t want to under feed her either. is there any alternatives i can try? or what do you suggest? i hope you (or anyone who knows) can respond!thanks!!! also, LOVE your videos

I think the names should be Drake and Josh
what type of box turtle, are they easy to care for?
@@your-dad319 but if they grow up to be male and female they can be bred creating more box turtles and bringing their population up.
What happend to the other box turtles in the picture
What’s the background song
These box turtles are so cute! Even though it’s simple, that setup it really nice looking
Idk if you have a box turtle and this is super random but how many gallons should there tank me for like there whole lifd

That may be true on protected. The pet store said I cannot legally help you, but I'll nod when you touch the right UVB light.
Thanks for watching! Gonna be setting up an outdoor enclosure for these lil guys soon, what should I name them? ⬇️
Teeny and tiny
Also thay look like box turtles
Fred and jerry but also I think they’re to tiny to sex
Or jack and Jill
Peanut for one of them maybe?
Yes dear box turtles box turtles are so cute

A pet store told me to get a 6.0 UVB. Another guy on here said 10.0 UVB.
Totally look like mine. I’m making a bigger habitat for them. Glad I found your video. Thanks for taking care of them.

How many gallons should the box turtle tank be?
20 long to 30 gallon minimum size. A large plastic tote may be better. They can't crawl out.
Do box turtles need to swim cause when I let mine swim she immediately runs to the end of the end of the tank

How do you change the water out with our having to dump out the entire enclosure? Or do you have to dump everything and start from scratch?
I have a large corner bowl in mine so it can be lifted out. Check it daily. They can drag dirt into it.
