If Jackie likes to dig in the mud anyway you should put some earthworms or something like that in the mud for some enrichment and gradually accessible protein
Just a tip, whenever you are mixing anything, weather in cooking or construction, its always best to put the liquid in first and then mix the dry stuff in gradually afterwards.
Really nice enclosure. I got kind of inspired for future projects. But I think I would have done a bigger land area, maybe 50/50 for a box turtle. And I don't think you should add an snakeneck (it would be cool though), but I'm not much for mixing different species. But great job dude!
I’m setting up a tank to house my baby box turtles. This is great idea for habitat. I wasn’t sure if I should do 59/50 water to land or not. Babies love more water and humidity. I’m looking forward to building my paludarium now.
Ok so I bought this same "trough". Brought it home set it up and 1/2 filled it with water. Right before I put my turtle in I noticed a trickle of water (by the spout area) to my horror. Had to drain it, call the company replace it, reset... I then actually sealed the bottom, seam, etc. with flex seal. Not the spray. I spread it on with my fingers. Took a couple days to dry, repeat, dry again. No leaks so far. Been a few months. My turtle LOVES this set up. Its so open and free. Basks all the time. The one issue with this is that it is incredibly heavy. My setup is inside. And he added a concrete mix?? Wow. Before the company brought out the second trough they tested it and the second one leaked as well. 😆 So they brought out a third one. I didnt give up. FYI: when you fill the trough with water at one point the walls flex (pressure). I think mine was 165 gallons. I think that liner might get slimy at some point? One more thing: my turtle never swims in this. All she wants to do is bask. Go figure. My basking area is ABOVE the tank which is awesome because she can look out!
Concrete needed to be mixed better and could of tried to epoxy it but with all the holes from not mixing properly might still not of worked haha concrete is hard so no worries though!
same thing happen to mine it is leaking on the other side of the soil probably gonna do the same to stop the leak making my soil muddy for my box turtle
Jackie is so adorable. I have a box turtle her name is big mama 🐢💖🙋♀️she's brown her shell is brown I had 2 boys and 2 girls the other 3 passed away I still miss them so much Thanks for sharing your video with me God bless you and your little 1
How does your turtle not get the water area super dirty since you don't have a filter, i don't have a filter and mine in basically black by the end of the day. Love you videos!
Hey, i bought a russian tortoise a few days ago and she doesnt do anything! Mostly sleeps, wakes up and eats a little, ive tried soaking and everything else that i can think of. Do you know what could be wrong?? I really dont want to return her. She was out in. Natural sun for a bit today and she did walk around a little but not much.
Awesome video man big fan of your stuff. Cool to see that you care enough to make a great enclosure for your turtles! Come check out our new chameleon catching video in South Florida!
I have and eastern mud box turtle. My paludarium only has water. Like a giant tub and the turtle spends his time permanently in the water. Shld I have 2 sides a dry and wet so he can bask in the dry? I worry for the Turtle.
Wont a box turtle drown in a paludarium kinda? They're turtles of course but more closely connected to tortoises and land turtles. A bit like frogs versus toads - toads still need water but definitely nothing like a fast flowing or deep river. I'd be skeptical about them drowning, especially with a snake-necked! But that's just me! Snake-necks are much less chill as a species, than box turtles, in general; too much splashing and swimming around could stress the box turtle out. I always kept box turtles in something like a giant storage tub, or a stock tank, but only had 1/4 of the space dedicated to water. And it was a removable large reptile water dish, plus a large glass bowl, that i changed daily ;-) they like to "soak" rather than swim.
Also I've always seen snake necks kept in groups, highly active feeders and swimmers! Box turtles seem much more chilled out, solo 98% of the time, and just wanna dig and bury and bask. Lol
concrete made like that is not water proof...use pond shield on top of it... plus that silicone wont last for ever... that bin bends..anytime you lean to it, on it..put something heavy like a bucket or rocks or durt bags it will bend and sharp concrete will shred the silicone..
Would it be possible if i made the same thing but put giant african bullfrog in their would thst be ok bevause i dont know whether giant african bullfrogs need a smaller water tank i dont know does anyone have any ideas???
Usually with any reptile or amphibian aside from some snakes dont have a limit on tank size, since snakes usually spend more time hiding than most other reptiles but I'm sure an African bullfrog would absolutely love a huge tank like this. It would grow huge too given the proper diet and care, meaning a big happy bullfrog.
@@hadvarr8578 I wish I built this, I was just watching this for ideas myself but I dont own that or the video but yeah your frog will be a happy fellow
Shahnam Karin Since it is a box turtle they can control the buoyancy in which they float. They are not like aquatic turtle in which they swim fully submerged all the time.
Do more research about how the chemicals and products you're using could harm your animal! Please! I don't want turtles dying/falling I'll die to improper care and then the person getting praised because it looks nice

Watching your videos of you making the enclosures is so therapeutic to me. The sounds of the water and stuff makes me sleepy ❤️
It's amazing what reptile keepers will do to get their reptiles the best! Good job!
But... he's not going to the measure's to use safe expanding foam and he made the rookie mistake of thinking concrete was waterproof
Araneus Kahlo 😐😐😐
OMG This enclosure turned out amazing!! It gave me so many ideas to start my own
Omg after few learning moments, you have an epic enclosure.
Looks incredible! I'm glad I came across this channel that actually knows about turtles
This is awesome i enjoy ur videos big time!!

Very nice! What a cutie!
Good job, trail and error makes it worth it for the next build. Keep it up. Subbed
Love it! great job

You could use epoxy to seal the concrete.
Way to live the Aquascape lifestyle!
Flex seal is garbage for sealing up stuff like that
Yeah, not enough damage.
I used flex seal. Working great.
Not a fan of duct tape. I probably would have silicone the liner to the walls.
Awesome video.
Definitely put sand on the bottom
Very nice. Would that filter work for a very small tub in my back yard?
If the flex seal didn't work sue them JK 😂
Why dont you use plexiglass and aquarium seal?
I would love to do this for my sliders
Awesome dude I'm going to do that to my turtle
I love it!!!!😄😃😂😍!!!!!!
👍
How do you clean the water? I have similar tank but the water always got dirty
Concrete needed to be mixed better and could of tried to epoxy it but with all the holes from not mixing properly might still not of worked haha concrete is hard so no worries though!
Damnnn nicceee
Maybe try a plexy glass wall behind the cement 😀
Since it’s so big, plexiglass probably can’t hold all that pressure☺️
May I suggest sand on the water portion!?
huge! bruh you should see mine it use to have 11 but we let them out to roam in the back yard like 6 years ago so theres only 6 now

Where did you get that giant tub, Home Depot? Looking to build an indoor pond for my turtle
dwayne the ROCK johnson
I got it from Tractor Supply
@@ShelledReptiles How much was it if you don't mind?
Franklin the Skateboarding Bulldog
$230 for the tank
Amazing thumbnail. Sorry your original idea didn’t work out but it still turned out great!.. especially with that hide
Jonah Bowdle
Thanks! She definitely likes using the hide.
You could waterproof that cement with some drylok, you’d just have to put it on thick if it’s a uneven surface.
How long till the wood molded ?
I wanna do this but for a monitor lizard

Do you have uv bulbs? A nice sized enclosure? Heat lamps, tomothy hay?
So do you have a heater, pump, and filter in the water?
Machelle Lowry
Yes, pump and filter are all one.
Whats the length n width in metres of the tub ?

What plants do you use?
Yeah what plants?
Maybe this question has been asked already, but what plants did you put in there?
Boston ferns are great and help with humidity!
CEMENT IS CAUSTIC
whats the plants show in thr video? does the turtle eat the plants?
Mixing concrete over carpet. You have giant balls.

what species?
Is all that stuff used even aquarium safe I’m not doubting you’re aquarium knowledge I’m just curious
What size is this?
Where do you recommend I get my Russian tortoise?
Try a local reptile expo!

Depends on the species of box turtle, they can varies greatly. Malayan box turtle are usually very comfortable in water
Won't silicone hurt the turtles? Won't it lea h into the water?
If it’s 100% silicone and completely dried then it won’t hurt the turtles, that’s what’s used to seal aquariums
I know i shouldn't be asking cause i know i cant afford it lmao but how much did the tub cost?

$230
@@ShelledReptiles that's actually reasonable for a tub that size :0...now If only I had a job..
